  • posted a message on What kind of mechanic would make it to where people would want to build a 4-color deck?
I remember reading an article a while back that WOTC stating how the Nephilim were a failed attempt at getting people to make 4-color decks and also a failure in the sense of the story as well. This got me to thinking, "What kind of mechanic would get people to want to make a 4-color deck without just going straight for a WUBRG deck?" I mean if your mana base is going for 4 colors it might as well have 5 right? I wanted to see if anyone had any good ideas on how to make this work.

The one idea I had was to make an ability called "Sans [color]". For instance if a card had the ability "Sans Black" they would get bonuses on said creature (or other kind of card) for using any color EXCEPT Black to cast it, each additional color making it stronger then the last. Something along these lines was really all I could come up with.

Any one else have any ideas? I do hope one day they will again attempt to make it to where people will make 4-color decks viable and for there to be a reason NOT to make a WUBRG deck. Whaddya guys think? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

  • posted a message on If colorless had an Iconic and Characteristic creature types what would they be?
Constructs also seem to be a good choice for the characteristic creature type since they are common enough and represent colorless pretty well most of the time and also since it's a generic term for machines/robots.

They both are also NOT exclusive to MTG, which I also think makes them potential candidates. Since every colors characteristic/iconic are creatures types that are in other works of fiction as well. This is why I didn't feel like Myr and Eldrazi could be candidates. BTW Slag Fiend kind of confuses me too, although the most logical explanation I can come up with is that it's on Mirrodin/New Phyrexia where everything is made of metal anyway, which is weird for MTG flavor anyway.

So yea I'm going to go with Constructs=Characteristic and Golem=Iconic, IMO after reviewing everyone else's input.

Appreciate all the responses! Thanks everybody!

I almost wanted to say Eldrazi, but it's not like they're in every block/set so I didn't throw them out there. I was almost thinking something along Thopter/Constructs and Golems. But Golems aren't rare enough or special enough to be Iconic I think, and Eldrazi are TOO rare. I was also thinking of Myr as the characteristic type but disregarded them for the same reason as I disregarded Elrazi as the Iconic type.

    Topic?

I was thinking maybe Golem as one of the two but I'm not sure which one.

  • posted a message on An infinite loop deck?
I've always wanted to make an oddball deck where the objective of the deck wasn't to win but cause the game to go into an infinite loop causing a draw.

I know of the oblivion ring hat trick, is among the most common of the infinite loops but there is a rule that states something along the lines that "if a player can perform an action that ends an infinite loop that player must do so", which makes making a deck like this a bit more challenging.

Has anyone ever created such a deck (I'm sure someone has) and if anyone knows any information about such a deck can they point me in the right direction? Any help would be appreciated! I would really like to make a deck like this that is somewhat competitive (although competitive may not be the right word since this deck isn't trying to win, just be annoying) Grin

  • posted a message on Want to make a Forest critters decks, need ideas for good support cards...
Those are all good and all would go well with my deck, of the ones I see I'm mostly looking for things like Call of the Wild,Preferred Selection, Natural Order, Overrun, and Overwhelming Stampede. These cards actually have something to do with the forest creatures and not the forest itself which is mainly what I'm concentrating on. Any more suggestions are welcome. Primarily looking for Enchantments, Instants, and Sorceries; possibly Artifacts if it goes well enough. My creature base will be easy enough to figure out.

Oh and this is just for fun BTW and expensive cards are okay to mention just in case I decide I want to drop some money for this. Thanks for the replies!

Want to make a fairly simple mono-green deck with Wolves, Bears, Snakes, etc. Thinking about including mana-accel. I just want to know if anyone has any good ideas for good support spells (Instants, Sorceries, Enchantments) that would not only work well with an aggro deck but also fit the theme dealing with forest creatures. Thanks ahead of time!

Ok Cool, I understand now, that's what I was thinking that maybe the ability basically becomes it's own entity in a sense. Voidslime would work though correct (as far as preventing that ability from doing anything)? Thanks for the quick replies!

So I play Turn to Frog on the Disciple, the Turn to Frog resolves at the top of the stack and give that creature no abilities so I'm just having trouble understanding why it's ETB abilities don't get nullified by Turn to Frog? How come the ETB ability still resolves even though the creature no longer has abilities? Is it because once the creature enters the battlefield the effect is already basically taking place and I'm only doing something to the actual creature and NOT the ability on the stack? I'm just so confused.

I apparently don't understand completely when and how things can react to stack. Here is the main thing I'm having problems wrapping my head around at the moment. Alot of you may know about the Sundial of the Infinite and Phyrexian Dreadnought combo. To my understanding the way it works (please correct me if I'm wrong) player has Sundial on the battlefield and plays Dreadnought during their main phase, the creature spell resolves, then the sacrifice ability goes on the stack and the player uses the Sundial's ability to end the turn and remove that negative ability off the stack so said player doesn't have to sac any creatures.

So if a player can do that how come I don't get a chance to say use a Turn to Frog on an opponent's lets say Disciple of Phenax after the creature spell resolved but before the ETB resolves? The way I look at it I get a chance to respond to anything on the stack as long as it is instant speed and I have priority correct? But apparently this isn't the case. Simply put I don't understand how sundial is allowed to react to an ability like that but I can't do the same with some other spell.

PLEASE clarify this for me. Thanks ahead of time!

  • posted a message on Question about cards in the Core Sets.
Not sure if this should be in General or Storyline...

I was playing the Duels of the Planeswalkers 2015 Edition...and I noticed that Shandalar was one of the worlds available to play through during the campaign. This really caught my interest because they had never released a set/block dealing with the plane of Shandalar, so it made me wonder...what cards would they use for a plane the actual card game really hadn't visited (or have they?) When I started playing through the plane of Shandalar I just noticed I was unlocking cards from the core set....so that leads me to the question...

Do the Core Sets have a plane/setting? I suspect they do...I feel in the earlier days the cards we representative of the plane of Dominaria...after all that was the setting of the biggest chunk of story magic had ever had. I feel though since Dominaria hasn't been relevant in years that they switched the setting for the core sets to Shandalar. After all it is supposedly a plane that drifts in and out of the multiverse (explains why it comes around once a year as a core set), so to me that makes sense too. So if my theory is correct, does that mean the lands, creatures, etc...that appear in the core set really are from either the plane of Dominaria (older core sets) or Shandalar (newer core sets).

Can someone give me some feedback? Thanks for your time!

Okay that makes sense, he just wanted to demonstrate to everyone just how limited the Gods power was...and I was also thinking he may had done b/c he wanted influence over the plane as Golblin pointed out. Thanks! Appreciate the quick response!

But couldn't he watch to world burn as a planeswalker? Especially if ascending to a Theros god wouldn't increase his power level?

but the aforementioned topic didn't really resolve my confusion. If Planeswalkers are more powerful than Gods (specifically, the ones from Theros) then why did Xenagos want to become a God if that would "decrease" his power level? I'm talking about the Vorthos/Flavor point of view BTW.
