It has to do with how none of the cards, with the exception of the good ol shocks, have been reprinted.
Not true. Cremate was reprinted (of course, that was a reprint from Invasion so....).
With that said, I completely agree with you. It is highly unlikely that we will see any significant RGD reprint until we get to Dragon's Maze and even there I would be surprised to see very much. R&D is doing as much as it can to make sure people do no mistake this block for a RAV 2.0 block.
Personally, I think this is a mistake and that a handful of flavorful reprints in all three of the sets (either instead of* or in addition to the shocklands) would have been a wise idea.
[*I mean, why did WotC go out of the way to name the shocklands so that they COULD print them outside of Ravnica only to not reprint them until they went back to Ravnica??]
Aaron Forsythe just confirmed that the rare in the guild booster is NOT the prerelease promo.
Huh. That is actually quite surprising. However, I guess that gives players more reason to play their guild seeing as how they will have at least two rares for it.
Agreed, this is the question I want answered. As far as I know they haven't said which slot in the booster the promo will take, though considering a basic land cannot be affiliated with a guild I would hope that it would take that slot (giving you 10 commons, 3 uncommons, 1 rare/mythic, and your promo).
I have already posted all of this before in another thread. According to the official WPN solicitation materials the guild pack is 14 cards PLUS promo for a total of 15 cards. To me it makes sense that this means only 6 rares otherwise it would be 15 cards plus the promo.
Important information about the Return to Ravnica Prerelease
Wizards is pleased to introduce another tournament experience innovation: The Guild
Prerelease Pack! Players will choose one of five Guilds to champion and receive a Guild
Prerelease Pack to build their Prerelease deck. Each Guild Prerelease Pack contains:
Are you people kidding me? If WU has any sort of (non-Delver tempo style) playability with this release a CMC4 Jace with FOF-lite is very sweet. Lets count the reasons why:
He replaces himself when he hits play
If you can defend him he will draw you at least two more cards (starting with the second turn you have him in play)
And he will draw you 2 more cards every three turns while also giving your control deck a better chance of protecting him...especially from 1/1 flying Spirit tokens, etc.
Dont forget that Gideon will be in GTC (albeit Boros and probably not as good at defending other PWs) and we still have another unknown planeswalker in this set.
I think people are underrating this card a little bit. No, he is no JtMS...but I dont think that any PW should be.
His only real threat is from flipped Delvers (and good RTR burn if that exists). But heck, that is a threat to pretty much everything right now.
Pictures of the guild symbols are not even an inkling of proof that the signets specifically are coming back.
Except that a "signet" is just that (basically) - a guild symbol. So, no matter what these arts are attached to they can justifiably be called "signets".
I would agree that these arts do in fact point to some guild specific mana fixing artifacts in the sets. I would love for them to be reprints of the original signets, however, I would also not be surprised if they were some re-visioned version of the originals.
X is the amount you prevent to you and/or your creatures (kinda extraneous wording all things considered).
It does not then do X damage to your opponent, it does the amount prevented. The amount prevented is the total unless English is failing WOTC. I am no judge though, but I read it the same as you.
No, English is failing WotC.
This is worded exactly as Refraction Trap was and that will only ever prevent/deal a total of 3 damage.
I really hope this information remains unknown until the prerelease.
Please, please, PLEASE someone just open and post the contents so that these sort of threads stop appearing.
The contents of the promo is almost gauranteed to be worthless and trivial like all of WotCs recent pre-release promos are. I don't really care what is inside and I don't think most (yeah, some of you might) players care all that much.
Spoil it and lets move on to more interesting things please.
Also, why is it ok to demote a rare but not a mythic? Why not just make it a common so everyone loses.
This. By the logic that MaRo voiced for WotC's decision, ultimately we will end up getting non-premium, non-alternate art, commons for promos. That way none of the other cards will have their feelings hurt.
Ultimately, I believe this is a bad decision by WotC. I only attend pre-releases for one reason and that is to be able to play with the newest cards as soon as possible. The foil Mythic was icing on my cake that made me not feel so bad about the cost of entry and playing in an otherwise low value event. This change may not be the deal breaker when I am deciding whether I attend pre-releases, but there is definitely less and less (the new "no drafts" rule, only a 1x event modifier) incentive to do so.
I called this a while ago when I first had learned Innistrad was graveyard based.
Let's hope this is true for all modern lovers.
The reason I had thought of this, was the lack of lands that could easily hit the graveyard were removed from the coreset M2012. No terramorphic. There also seems to be no tribal cards either.
If we see it reprinted in this block, I believe we will see it in Dark Ascension. It will be the JtMS of the set.
The search mech for this thread appears to be broken, and I havent read all 8 pages...but I am hoping (since Flashback will be in ISD) to see Mystical Teachings back in Standard.
artifact creature! it will be neat to have an artifact that turns into an artifact creature.
Mishra's Groundbreaker wasnt all that neat. I suspect there are other artifacts that become artifact creatures that I cannot think of. Seems too....straightforward, for me. I would prefer to see an artifact turn into a (colorless??) Enchantment.
In case it's a misprint, which I sincerely doubt, the card number is 144/289.
Perhaps not a misprint on the card itself...just the entry in the encyclopedia. Like I said, I dont know if those are scans or images from some other source. I have never bought a fat pack in my life.
Most likely, this is a fake but Zendikar showed us that misprints do happen from time to time, and they are not always minor.

I guess now we all have to complain about how we are being shorted an RTR land!

That looks like an image from the encyclopedia in the fat pack...are the images in that scans or something else?
Could this be a mis-print ala "Walking Atlas"??
Otherwise, fake.
