Wizards hates competitive players, and these aren't competetive, they're very EDH minded.
Really? These cards seems incredibly competitive to me. Abilities on lands with no drawbacks have been very powerful. At the very least they would replace a basic land in 90+% of decks.
1. Start playing and drafting terrible decks. Make intentional play mistakes. Doesn't seem to be something you'd be interested in.
2. As long as you're playing within the rules, get over the complaining and legitimately don't let it bother you. This might be very difficult.
3. Find a new group/store or move to Magic Online.
You may think that there's a fourth solution (Get all of these players to change their mind about if they like playing against you), but that isn't really a possibility in the real world.
I'm Matt, I'm 28 and I'm brand new to your hobby. When I was 11 years old I had a fleeting interest in MTG, but the mechanics proved a little much in my childhood and shortly after Pokémon sort of quelled that urge. But a few weeks ago I couldn't golf and the video game scene was dead, and I was craving fantasy. 200 booster packs later and I am a near fanatic collector, itching to get out and play... but daunted by the understanding of the game I'm sure I lack. A bit too scared to roll into FNM, nervous my lack of know-how will hinder someone else's night. So I've come to the forums to ask for help!
I intend to build decks for Modern and Standard play and will post prototypes in the proper threads in hope my shortcomings will be pointed out! (There has GOT to be a way to make Dragons and Hydrae cooperate). I may also be the guy in the rules forum asking seemingly basic questions. I look forward to applying your criticisms!
FNM isn't anything to be scared of! If you feel nervous about it, then check out a few FNMs just as a spectator. You'll meet some players and learn what the event is like before actually participating. Might be an easier way to get into the competitive scene.
Just to be totally clear, yes you can redirect the damage to a planeswalker - but you
have to redirect all of the damage. You can't split the Rakdos Return damage between the player and planeswalker.
Welcome to posting on the forum! Haven't read Locke and Key yet, but everyone seems to lobe it. Just saw Joe Hill on tour for NOS4A2, he's a talented guy for sure!
As someone with a lot of experience with fakes, they look fake.
The darkness isn't too big of a problem. I've got legit cards from Unlimited that are that dark. It is suspicious though. It is normal for Time Walk to be missing the top bevel. It is also normal for the inside lines to appear dithered.
My red flags:
The dirty edges on the text and outside border are an instant deal breaker for me. This is a sign of home printing.
Straight lines running vertically through the outsides of the borders are another sign of home printing.
The resolution is too low but the dithering looks dirty in an abnormal way, even for cards misprinted too dark.
Uneven wear from front to back. Not a deal breaker but always suspicious.
The color and saturation on the backs isn't normal for Unlimited and appear to be from a later printing. Again, not a deal breaker due to print variation, but suspicious.
Probably real cards with the faces stripped, stuck to tagboard with an adhesive, and printed over with a HQ laser printer from high-res scans. This is one of the most common methods for small-scale home forgery and it accounts for the print defects and spotting.
Unless there are artifacts in the image from the scan, the dirty black edges are an instant deal breaker and mean 100% fake as this will never appear on a real card. It's hard to tell for certain however as there clearly are some artifacts from the scan and compression of the images and they are too low quality.
Great post. Sums up my thinking very well, I'd lean towards fake with the information available.
I was playing Sharuum the Hegemon in my playgroup, but it was drawing a lot of heat so I made a Kami of the Crescent Moon deck to be a pseudo 'group hug'. Who doesn't like drawing all of those extra cards??
Hi everyone, getting back into Magic after a few years away from the game. I started playing back when Legends was the hot new set! Nowadays I play Vintage, Legacy, and casual EDH.
Sorry I guess I was a little aggressive saying Legacy and Vintage. I've been out of the Legacy scene for a while. But in Vintage, Drain Tendrils decks definitely often do play 4x Force alongside Tendrils, so does Gush Tendrils.
Not true, you can continually target the same creature if you wanted. Just because a creature has equipment attached to it doesn't make it an illegal target for the equipment to target that same creature with its equip ability. In theory, you could equip the Shuko to the Illusionist over and over until you mill the desired number of cards. (Though this doesn't work with Greaves because it gives the creature shroud, lol)
Also, what deck are you playing that is running tendrils and FoW?
Plays like this are pretty common in eternal formats. Many Tendrils combo decks in Legacy or Vintage use Force of Will and/or Pact of Negation for protection.

Please put large images in spoiler tags. -Xen

Yep, there's actually a Legacy combo deck based around this interaction called Cephalid Breakfast. You can read about it here: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=290704
