Hymn is going to be a sleeper, I promise. Will probably debut at less than 5, then triple in price over the next year.

You can get an original Hymn for a buck right now. It's been printed twice as a common... How on earth would anyone justify $15.00? Because its foil? eh? Collectors only, Maybe. But it'll flatten out in a year. Its not a card people want. Its a Desert as well. It's a great card back in the day, but its not a splashy EDH card and could only be played in Legacy/Vintage. Wouldn't you rather Thoughtseize?

To be honest, No one cares about any of these cards but Jace.

I hope no one miss interpreted the rules here between these two cards:
Windreader Sphinx and Trained Condor is a non-bo

The sphinx will check for flying before the Condor's target gains flying... You'll never draw two cards from the Trained Condor and another attacking non-flyer.

There will be a fairly large impact on EDH, to be sure. We'll all be free to play legendaries and popular generals more often.

What concerns me is how this will affect competitive planeswalker cards that no longer have answers. You can't simply destroy your opponent's Jace by playing a copy yourself. So wont that mean an increase demand for these popular, powerful cards and thus increased prices?

    What are your thoughts?

Could this mean the unbanning of Jace, Mind Sculptor in Modern? Or at least Restricting him?

i know this is sorta "haters gonna hate" but I would much rather have more/better promos or the promo mailers.

This is fun no doubt, and the Jones Soda Promos were awesome too, but at the end of the day when we all pack up our stuff and go home...

...isn't it all about the cards?

i hate slow-players. I would rather make a poor choice and move on than sweat it out for 10 minutes. BORING.

Slow players don't really mean to do it though, they're genetically predisposed to thinking through every damn play. Its terrible playing multiplayer EDH with them because they stall the whole table and make games unfun.

I can't imagine what its like at the pro level, I'm sure its unbearable.

Its gamesmanship for sure, but I hope this goes to show everyone that the DCI wont tolerate it if you get a reputation for being a douche.

I know they cant add a chess clock to the pros, but they really should.

Its a slippery slope. People like EDH because its causal, fun and you don't need 4-of's. Turning it into a tournament atmosphere will force players to play some cards over others, and over time we'll see net-decks of EDH generals boiling to the surface.

While talk of "strictly-better" cards comes up in EDH now and again, its nothing like STD where that's the only way to play. A lot of people just play with whatever cards they have or test out new things just to play around... EDH isn't about winning, its about crazy interactions.

Official rules and ban lists (even product support?) will be great for everyone. But I don't think anyone who plays EDH wants a tournament. Spikes already have their Extended, Standard, Legacy, etc.

EDH is about the causal. And that's what it should always be about.

While its a boring card, it will be great in limited, like others have said. You will consistently gain 10 life off this every game, no problem. It will ruin a players math and give you time to play your other spells, granted, it works best with metalcraft, but I think it will also shine if your deck is on the slow side and you lack two-drops.

Its not an all-star, but I could see it helping you win a game or two during a sealed tourney. draft? we'll see how draft turns out.

Looks fun! I like how its intentionally funny and tongue-in-cheek. Just how multiplayer games should be.

I'll be printing all these out on nice photo-paper card stock to go with my planeschase proxies.

What's great about these casual cards is that most people don't care if you're proxying everything because its not like there's sanctioned multiplayer magic- so have ats!

PLUS, proxing up the whole set of PC opens up the design space for making your own, custom planes.

Arch Enemy will be more of the same!!!

I can't wait for the custom scheme: "No one expects the Spanish inquisition!"

and I'll second the thought said a million times already-

FINALLY something to play with exactly 3 magic players!!!!!!

i made a custom blind eternities plane card. its pretty fun.

it lets you reveal the top 5 PC cards and you choose where to 'walk when you roll planeswalk, and you choose what chaos triggers happens when you roll chaos.

    pretty cool, huh?

Oooooh... I'm so excited for this. PlaneChase has literately sparked everyone at our store into making fantastic EDH decks, and I can't wait to rip these new Archenemy Cards open and shoehorn in a EDH variant.

It sounds a lot like the big boss has missions, or tasks or scenarios that they'll have to complete while everyone else tries to stop them... should be freakin nuts.

More excited about these off-shoot sets than anything WotC has released in the last 4 years.

    They're making Magic FUN again.

  • posted a message on [DCI] New Competitve Format Coming
I think its a great alternative to Legacy. I understand that they're are people who like that format, but its far too expensive for Wizards to ever support seriously. It would be like having a NASCAR race with only vintage, orginal Model Ts. No one has model T's and for the most part, no one cares to watch, play, or talk about Legacy/Model Ts compared to other racing cars/Standard/Extended.

On the flip side, Extended and Standard both rotate so fast that its hard for some people to keep up. Wizards NEEDS to have a format where literately every card is playable and I think people will like it once they see it for a while and realize that Legacy can die in piece. Those reserved cards are more of a collectors item now, not actual playing cards.

Legacy only gets harder to play every month that goes by. Abolishing the Reserve List would only sully the reputation of Legacy as being "old magic". While we all want dual lands and the old "good" cards, if we all had reprints of them, then they wouldn't be that great anymore as any dual land after would feel awful. Its fun to play with those old cards, but I don't think just ANYONE should be playing with them- they should be earned and rare and hard to find. It gives the game a history and a timeline for new players to discover and give them goals to stive for, if they so choose to collect Power 9 shinanigins and all their broken friends.

Having a older format where they CAN reprint stables, albiet less powerful ones, will help that format live on unlike the dying Legacy format... I know that's a bit of doubletalk- saying reprinting helps, but a reserve list is important to the history of magic. But I stand by it. Reprinting Lin Sivvi, Definant Hero or Rashaisen Port is not equal to reprinting Badlands, I'm sorry if you disagree, but there is a large difference and some things should be preserved.

Wizards designing a new old world format that they CAN support successfully will be better now, going forward. Years and years from now, this Neo-Legacy will be very easy to get into- the "dual decks" alone can furnish WotC's reprints to support the new format... I think its smart. People will hate it, but people hate everything.

I understand this is a limited card, but I still don't think 7 mana for a 2/3 TIM is even a valid choice in this new super slow environment. This will kill NOTHING but leveler cards played after turn 4, and at that point those leveler cards are pretty awful mid game anyways. A pinger is a pinger regardless of mana. you wont play a 1/1 in any format when a pinger is on the table... so i guess that's why the cost is so high.... ugh. yucky card.

and what? 15 mana for a repeatable bolt on a 2/4 body? is a 2/4 even good in this format? attacking with a larger creature will compel you to block it and probably sacrifice the 15 mana investment you've made on ONE card, instead of playing other spells that could have done actual damage. If this had Defender so it worked in the "defender matters" theme, then there would at least be some flavor excuse for why it exists.

I wonder just how slow this format will be if this card is uncommon. will we not play anything that will attack until turn 4? 5? 6?!

I don't like this thing at all. Makes me think that there is ZERO spell-based removal in the set.

    Tips & Tricks Card Insert:

"If you want to kill anything, you better spend 10 mana on a leveler to use its activated ability!"

    At least its different.

I can't really hate the set until I play it. so far it looks slower than snail mail. will rounds be extended past 55 minutes?

The strength of this card depends on how slow standard will actually get after RoE is released...

No Question that they'll have colored artifacts. It opens up far too much design space which they just dabbled in during Alara block. The idea that Mirrodin is being corrupted is interesting- we all can assume that its some Phyrexian source that's doing the corrupting which is probably the main storyline. but mechanically when we were first at Mirrodin, non-artifact permanents were "corrupted" with steel skin and metal limbs- the cats and zombies were powered up by artifacts, etc.

Since we left Mirrodin, I think the plane has probably been naturally corrupted by colored mana thanks to the Suns or some other source we'll see later. The pure-artifact Myr are augmenting themselves with colored mana with exciting and powerful results- along with every other race on the Plane.

I can't wait to see how they do artifacts again. Every time they do a heavy artifact block, magic gets broken for a couple months. I wouldn't mind seeing Affinity come back, if it was fixed and had other things matter as well. "Affinity for your Opponents Hand Size"?

While this is pretty amazing, there are a LOT of answers to it, so its balanced for the most part. Its definitely mythic, wow.

so speculations start- this is the 6th card in the set, starts with K... I can't imagine that their are too many of these HUGE monsters. Slant right?!

I could see them printing all the mythic cards in the set as Eldrazi spells though.

Should be interesting. Mana Ramp in all formats will have new toys, which is always fun.

I love how when you cast it you draw 4 cards. so even if its countered, you get card advantage off it. Probably a strict R&D decision to make professionals think about playing it for reals, competitively.
