    Chapter 1 - CREDITS

    "What the hell happened?"
I opened my eyes with a daze staring at the ceiling. Trying to get up from the floor, I try to get some support with my right hand. Nothing moved.
    "Huh?"
I tried to wave my right hand frantically, but nothing moved. Remembering the last thing that he did was falling off the chair,
"Don't tell me I broke my spine with that fall and paralyzed me. **** me."
I willed myself to get up, to my total surprise I started to float. Turning around, I saw my body with a pool of blood near my head.
    "**** me sideways."
There was a nail coated with blood sticking out of the wall with an imprint of my skull on the dry wall. I guess I died hitting my head on that.
"Well that's a lame way to die." I chuckled.
I tried to look at my "spiritual" body, but I saw nothing. It was as though I was just a floating ball of consciousness.
"Huh, at least I am not fat anymore."
"Since there is after life, I guess there is a God, do I get sent to hell for all my terrible jokes?" I yelled at the ceiling, but there is no answer.
With nothing to do, I stared at the ceiling for a bit longer hoping to see a ray of light and get beamed up like they do in Star Trek. I noticed there were some words and letter in the corner of my eye. I try to focus on it and it enlarged to a full green menu screen.

    Personality #29A
    Name: Driskoll Truman
    Species: Human
    Occupation: Clerk Title: None
    Status: Dead
    Strength: 437/999 Charisma: 356/999
    Wisdom: 453/999 Intelligence: 245/999
    Abilities: None

    "What is this a game?"
Refocusing on my surrounding, the menu minimized back to the corner of my eye. I focused on to my monitor.
"What a shame, I just bought this new system and I had to accidentally kill myself before I could really use it."
The screen shows a lich raising his flag on the edge of the cliff side along with his underlings.
"Wait a minute, why is everything frozen?"
I looked at the clock on the wall intensely. It showed 8:14. Since the clock has no second hand he had to stare at the clock for over 5 minute, making sure that my intuition is right.
"Time is stopped at the moment of death?"
Needing to confirm my suspicion, I tried to look out the window and started to float towards it. When I reached the window, I didn't stop and went through it.
    "IDSPISPOPD" I chuckled.
It was a fine summer day, blue sky with not a single cloud in the sky. Gazing around I spotted a bird frozen in midflight. It confirmed my worst fear.
"Time is stopped or stretched out indefinitely. Sounds like the writers of Constantine got hell right. Minus all the hellfire."
I stared at the sky, pondering what to do next. I noticed everything else except for the sky to go grey. A menu screen similar to my stat page popped up in the middle of the sky.

"CONGRADULATIONS! 10 Billion Population Reached! GAME OVER!"
"Crap, so am I just a part of a game? Nothing I did mattered? What about my hopes and dreams? Bah, who am I kidding, I didn't have any hopes and dreams. So what now?"

The menu in the sky was replaced with a rolling credit. I started to hum the Star War Theme since how the credit was displayed. I pondered if everything my life was predetermined script or if I actually had free willed.
"Meh, it doesn't mattered if I had free will or not, I am a part of a game anyway, it's not going to change anything."
Being a gaming junkie, I am more interested in the game itself. The last thing that it said was "10 Billion population reached". Assuming the players are "Gods", it would mean that this is a SimCity like game with the end goal of the human population reaching 10 Billion. Not that this information is remotely useful. The game has ended already. If I was the player, I would shut off the system and replace another game, or do something else. I might as well enjoy these few last moments. With nothing to do, I decided to look at my status again. Focusing on my status window again, it maximised as expected. Everything stayed the same except for one thing.
    "Status: Respawning in 29"
"Heh, the game has ended my friend. Respawning won't do anything. I guess those reincarnation stories are true as well, though, they should be called respawnation stories." I decided to make one last lame joke.

    The credit roll ended.
"Game SAVED, Start new game +? Y/N?"
I Perched up immediately with my mind racing.
"Does this mean I get to live again?"
The cursor hovered over the "No" button.
"NO, KEEP PLAYING AND CHOOSE YES YOU DUMB ****! YOU HAVENT CLEARED ALL THE CONTENT YET! YOU CALL YOURSELF A GAMER?"
As if the cursor heard my complaint, it slides over to "Yes" button.
    "Status: Respawning"
    Everything went black.

This is a fiction that was inspired by the new anime Overlord

This is my first fiction that I wrote, so please be gentle with your criticism please:>

    Prelude. Game Over

"Kotae wa Doko e? Saga*****e, Where's my soul?"
The speaker blasted the song at full volume.

A man sits in front of his computer with the glare of his computer reflecting on his glasses. This was his daily ritual. Every day he would wake up, and listen to music to wake himself up, at the same time, check the daily news for current events.

"Hmmm, human population reaches 10 Billion soon. Sustainability issues multiplies. If World War 3 or World War Z breaks out, that will solve that problem" He chuckles to himself.

Since a very young age, he had a very dark sense of humor. The idea of death had never bothered him at all.
"I hope that God don't exist because I would probably go to hell for that joke."

"RAISE YOUR FLAG, MARCH ON, FIGHT!" The music kept playing.

He opened another browser page to check his email.
"Junk, Junk, Junk, Junk, Bill, Junk, Hmm..."

He clicked one of his email.
"DRISKOLL TRUMAN, please remember to register for the classes in the new semester either online or in person...''

"Ah crap, I knew I forgot to do something."
He quickly logged on to his college's website to register for his classes. Without thinking about it at all, he chose 5 random courses that seemed easy to complete. He still have no idea what kind of diploma, so he didn't care what he studied as long as it keeps him in the system. Everything was done to keep his parents happy.
He can still hear their nagging voices in the back of his mind...

"You will need a diploma to even get your foot in the door in any business."

"Look, I am smart enough to know that I am not smart enough for the business world. Your son is not special, I am not a beautiful or unique snowflake, I am the same decaying matter as everyone else. I just want to make enough money to get by comfortably and hopefully die at the age of 60" He replied.

Entering his credit card number and finalizing his choices, he took a quick look at the clock.

"Damn its 7 already? Time to work."
Unlike most of his college friends, he actually enjoyed his dead end job. Well, enjoy would be too strong of a word. Tolerable would be much better choice. He work in the back of a supermarket. At first, he was in charge of stocking the cooler only, but within 3 months, the manager trusted him with training the new employees and minor schedule adjustments. Out of all the recent high school graduates, he was the only one that did not ***** and moan about the dead end job. Of course, with new responsibility came a few perks that he does enjoy from now and then. One day, he didn't get enough sleep because of a raid with his guild in World of Warcraft. He fell asleep in the cooler. When he woke up, he saw his manager staring down at him with a smile and said "Don't do this again."

As Driskoll leans back for a quick stretch to wake himself up completely, tragedy struck. He leans back a little too much and lost his balance. His chair flips over and catapults him towards the ground.

    BANG!!!!!

    Everything went black.

"AA naku*****a kanashimi ga mata uzuiteku, Misery-World!"
The song finishes with no one listening to it.

If you blame your lost to bad luck, you will never get better.

That game that you lost to chandra, you could have done something else to save yourself 1 life and survive that turn. etc

Fine you want to play this game?

10 hours to sort his collections so that he can retrieve said card in a timely manner and build those 10 decks in an hour.
2 - 3 weeks to learn the game so that he can build a decent deck out of commons
Investing $500+ from drafting so that he can get the said commons and have experience in the game to build the said decks.
$500 (maybe more) for the gas money to go to the said tournament so that he can learn the game.

Do you want me to keep going?

There are hidden costs that you don't see. You only see the dollar amount of the card to be $0.01 each but it took time and money to get to that place where he can teach and build decks. People should be rewarded for teaching the game and making it easy for other people to learn the game.

He is not only selling cards, he is selling a service and his expertise.

Do you go to a restaurant and say "oh they are only selling food which costs less than a dollar but they charge me $10 for that burger. It is a scam!"?

    1. Why are we presuming it's not just a pile of junk commons?
    2. The point is it is very easy to make a deck for less than a $1
    3. Even if you consider the time and effort to build the decks, if the decks are are just pile of commons with some lands in there you could easily make 30 in an hour which would come out to an hours worth of effort being worth over $400.

    1. Why do YOU assume that it is a pile of junk commons that is less than a dollar?
    2. The point is that he took the time and effort to make a deck.
    3. Lets use your stat and say he used an hour to make the deck. Minimum wage (for me atleast) is $11.50, plus the $1 deck that you assumed to be junk commons. He is only making $2.5 more than minimum wage. Sounds like a wonderful scam of $2.50. (/sarcasm)

The difference between $15 and a $15 rare is that the value of the card can fluctuate while $15 will always be $15. Not to mention the guy took his time and effort (which is money) to build the deck

Would this *free roam* double elimination work?

set a time limit for first day, you have to win X matches to get to day 2. You are eliminated as soon as you get 2 loses.

As soon as you win you go to the report station with the match slip. You will be paired up against another player, given the match slip and the table number. The standings won't matter because as soon as you lost twice you are out of the tournament already.

No draws for first day what so ever. If you fail to win X matches when the given time comes, you don't make day 2.

Of course, this will only work for first day.

Discard ~: If you have not played a land this turn, search your library for a basic island or swamp and put it on the battlefield, then shuffle your library. You may not play a land this turn.
When ~ enters the battlefield, lose 1 life.
t: Add U or B to your mana pool.

Also need to restrict the activation whenever you can play a land.

This is better than a dual because you can fetch a dual of the third color

The fetch lands didn't put a land into play tapped.. And it's searching for basic land types, so you can't use these to fetch another copy of these lands, since they don't have the basic land subtype. Maybe I'm mis-understanding what you're saying..

You can fetch a dual with this. These are better than the original duals as it can dodge waste land.

I will run 4 copy of these and 1 dual land in legacy easy.
