I find it much more satisfying to win using finite combos. Djinn Illuminatus + Lightning Bolt, for example, may not be infinite, but it's usually enough. Plus things like that are easier to build into a non-combo deck.
Some of the cheaper cipher cards go well with other guilds though. I think the most potent combos are 2-3 guilds. Azorius field control with binding hands, for example, then throw in some boros. Or simic with blue izzet spells and green gruul critters

We have so few people left, I don't even have any superior mages in chronomancy. Then again, maybe they haven't been promoted yet.
pretty much. Anything competitive I like doing draft or sealed, because then at least big money mongers can't overmoney you.
