I'm pretty sure you will see 5-6 new decks next weekend. Pre Pro Tour Opens always suck. If the Pro Tour is all cat decks then you can get all worked up.

If you can lock people out why not play some Jace's? His ult is disgusting and the raw card advantage would be nuts in this deck.

I'd go full prison just for fun.

Well looking at the open results its not good news, there is a lot of aggro and high toughness aggro it is basically impossible to deal with 2 Grim flayers in this deck. We just can't deal 4 damage to a creature without losing a card or paying at least 3 (and that is a waste of collective definance). With only 4 lightning axe max and needing that agianst things like the mindwrack demon.

I guess I'll go with Thing in the Ice because that is better against this kind of thing, there isn't a huge amount of removal around.

We actually seem quite good against the Saheeli deck, other than drawing them into thier combo. As a sidenote if the combo takes over the format Dampening Pulse stops it.

There isn't space for something like key to the city especially when we have so few creatures, just for stormchaser and eventually wandering fumerole. Shreds is 3 mana do nothing until next turn.. bedlam reveler does its job better.

The results are actually a good thing. It tells you to move to a more bounce based deck with more of a focus on Visions. There are so few cards seeing play that can remove an enchantment right now it isn't funny. The way to beat aggro is with tempo. Move the burn to the board and main Thing and Unsubstantiate.

Fatal Push is actually going to make it so I try to get this deck back into playability. Sakura Tribe-Elder and fetches turn the second mode on way more than other decks. Smallpox is also an enabler as is Cloud.

    I'll work up list.

I think the meta will shift to a bit more open. Brewing is looking like there are 10 decks viable. Fevered Visions, Seasons Past and some other fringe cards will see an uptick. You may even see a mono blue counter control deck with the goodies in Revolt.

It's a good move but if you ask me the damage is done. From the perspective of someone who's in sales this is a loss in consumer confidence. It took 3 years for magic to crawl out of the last banning format with the attendance numbers drop like this. I have a friend who has a shop and he can't get Standard to fire. He has 40-50 per Modern events and the first Frontier event grabbed 22 people. That's a troubling sign.

Longtusk Cub approves. There's a legit deck that can get a 4/4 attacking turn 3 with not that much effort. While playing cards that replace themselves. Toss in a few Blossoming Defense and you have the beginning of a fast aggro deck that may be able to hang with Marvel and Looter scooter.

I am still working on a Heartbeat of Spring deck. Seasons Past makes for a hilarious loop. However the good old Tooth and Nail into Emmy and Xenogas is still the best way to win.

Every time I see new sets I'm looking for that piece that lets my Early Harvest Heartbeat be a real thing. As is I'm a turn too slow.

Tombstalker was heavily discussed a few years back. With Smallpox it is easy to cast for BB. But I'm not sure it does enough, Gurmag is also in this boat. I'd love it to be a thing but it always played out poorly. It's funny how a BB 5/5 flyer is t good enough to compete anymore.

I would think you're heavily favored against Lantern and even the UR burn/Thing decks. Wouldn't think there to be a terrible match up out there?

Or you could go Mono and play Vernal Bloom.

I decided, for my decks, to stop buying new cards. I'm spending my money on collecting cards from the original border. Mirrodin was the end of "classic" magic and the new card types and rarities that followed have been a total failure for myself as an older player.

I fine it hilarious that my teenage sons notice how much better the older sets were compared to the cash grab that has been going on. There was a point in time where you could build competitive decks out of mostly commons and uncommons. Now to be close to tier 1 you need $500 for your decks. With this being a game I can't see why or how it's justified to spend that kind of money. THis set only confirmed my doubt in Wizards ability to make a decent product anymore.

We also play Type 2 but it's the one from Fallen Empires to Ice Age. It's the one they played at the first Pro Tour. Good old Erhnagheddon decks. UW control/mill. Mono Black Necro knights.

We are considering a restriction on Necro to open the format but it's still so much fun. And it's really cheap as well.

Ishkana should be on people's radar in this deck. I've managed to stabilize a few games by playing her and her babies. I've found Delirium to be easy by turn 5 with Cathartic Reunion. And people are already on G so why not use the best creature?

I'd like G as third color, since B and W are somewhat my least favorite colors on Magic Grin

Rashmi has a great spells theme, and her ability could fit our deck really well, but there are also a couple things, if I can follow you in your brainstorming, that worries me:

    - Attune with Ether is a good mana stabilizer, but it needs G to be played, and G as for now is the color we need less mana. But I do like a 1st turn play it would provide;

    - How do you think to spend the energy accumulated? Where you thinking of the Tower built? And if so, most important:

    - if you're not removing dynavolt Tower, what are we cutting for finding place for Rashmi, Attune and maybe other green cards? We need lots of instant and sorceries in this kind of deck, we could cut creatures to 3 Alchemist 3 Things, a couple Rashmis and a single Torrential Gearhulk, but still we need to cut something else...

Well since the card played from Rishmi counts towards the Tower I would likely cut Thing. Late game Attunes would have a use and Harnessed Lightning would be way more effective late game. Keeping Rishmi alive might be the issue in a build like this. We do have access to some quality lands and the mana costs can be worked out so 3 colors isn't the end of the world. Defiance would need cut, but I dislike it in the meta anyway.

And a full 4 Aether Hub to help smooth out mana.
