I’d love to see just decent cards from sets. Mostly cards that fix supply issues and make a draft format second. Some of the best draft formats I played were devoid of premade strategies that people could simply see coming. These sets have a chance to be very intricate.
I stopped drafting after the second Innistrad set as the drafts consisted of the same decks just slightly modified from player to player. The dearth of good commons is my biggest issue. Coupled with the play x card and run away with the game aspect. The Masters sets have been just awful for draft. So why mess up a $10 per pack product with draft junk when it should be 256 hits. Not some random outlast card or friggin Wee Dragonauts.

Reveler has been my jam since he came out. Any thought to trying Smallpox in the deck? Falls into the attrition style of the deck and doesn’t kill Young Pyromancer since you get a token first. Also a way to toss Souls into the grave.
Rabblemaster also seems like a decent option post board but with humans being a big part of the meta I think he’s too soft for the main.
Blood Moon is needed. The poster arguing it’s not is crazy. It will get you free wins. You don’t give up something so overtly powerful just to have a little more maindeck synergy.
Jun 2, 2017Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)Quote from janozimek »I don't think anyone thinks this is the most competitive thing you can be doing in modern. Still it's a pretty fun deck that can do ok at your small local event.
Are you suggesting we use stone rains instead of bounce?
-It's more mana
-It doesn't directly fill their hand
-We help them dig for lands
I think bouncing lands is more effective for what the deck is trying to do.
You are correct that the deck is soft to one mana creatures. Especially mana dorks.
There are some very different appraloaches to the "creature protection" issues:
*Bounce (mass effects like whelming wawe are best. Ideally you.dont wanna use Boomerangs on creatures)
*Kill (red gives us cards like pyroclasm and it's big brothers. They don't add to the opponent's hand, and are dead vs some decks)
*Tap (Mainly Cryptic Command but also cards like gigadrowse. Dont forget Exhaustion. These tend to be mana intensive)
*Pillow fort effects (ensnaring bridge obviously doesn't work here, but Ghostly Prison might have some potential)
*Blockers (generally not great combined with mass bounce. TiTi provides both. I have also considered Æther Membrane [1RR 0/5 wall, bounce what it blocks]. Other suggestions are welcome.
Another solution, which I have used with some success, is Chalice of the Void. I don't play any one drops anyway, so CotV is a natural fit. Perhaps even maindeckable.
Chalice is good call. But you do cut yourself off of Vapor Snag for removal. Which can be a great option against creatures and creature combo decks.
I do like 4 of Snappy and even TiTI. I think there's also some play to either Baby Jace or the newer Jace that draws or bounces. Perhaps Chandra, Torch of Defiance? She does offer card draw and mana. Just spitballing ideas.
Jun 1, 2017The original deck was land denial. Stone Rain and Molten Rain were all stars. You could also consider a bigger version with Wildfire to really close games out. If you don't go mana denial you;re just durdling and hoping to dodge 70% of the field. And on the draw you need so much help to win even favored match ups.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Cards to consider:
Shadow of Doubt- for fighting fetches
Wildfire-sweeper and mana denial
Sudden Impact- just does a ton of damage. It's costly but you won;t need the 7 cards in hand clause.
I have this deck built but I always play it for fun. I thought Visions was the card to put it over the top but so far it isn't.
The original builds preyed on the Ravnica bounce lands that were popular back in standard at the time. The issue becomes decks like Death's Shadow that operate efficiently on 1 mana. There's also the issue with not being able to target a fetch with a boomerang. a savvy opponent will use it during his turn to get the mana he/she needs. I'm 100% behind the idea but haven't come up with a list that is even 50% against the field. maybe white with some tax effects?

You can use it to grind out games and it gives you the same combo efficiency that Approach does. You can use the same mana engine and it works even on turns where you aren't trying to combo. To me this allows for more resilency.
If you run only one Faith of the Devoted then you need to include something else to deal with the situation where it's in the bottom ten. Whatever that is (or the second Faith) uses an additional slot. I also don't know if Faith is better at winning a game on its own than Approach. It's not common but it's definitely possible to do Approach, take your beats, fog-cycle-cycle-cycle-cycle-cycle and win. I don't know if it's easier or harder to get ten Faith activations without New Perspectives.
Aggro decks do their damage in such big chunks these days that the incremental life gain can get overwhelmed pretty quickly. I agree that Faith makes sense in a lot of ways but I'd like to see it playtested against Mardu.
I've found this list to be pretty consistent so far:
Another card I'm interested in is Wander in Death in the "retrieve early Vizier cycles" slot for Pulse of Murasa. It offers occasional card advantage and cycles when you don't need it. On the other hand the life gain can be relevant in some matchups.
ETA: LSV did a video of this deck as well in which it is less of an all-conquering destroyer of worlds. Partly this is because LSV seems less familiar with piloting the combo.
Wander does fit in with the overall theme of the deck. It doesn't net positive mana. Too bad Bounty of Luxa doesn't generate card advantage faster.
I think there's a consistent combo deck here. It's just getting to the best parts.
