So why again can't I use Phyrexian mana?
Because Spitting Image is blue and Birthing Pod is not blue, so Phil Bluemage can't use it.

EDIT: Note, this is the same justification that would keep the 2/C hybrids out of any deck. Phyrexian mana is just hybrid mana with 2 life on the other side instead of 2 generic mana.

And I agree here, that only two-color hybrids should really be up for discussion in terms of allowing hybrids. I definitely do not want to see Mental Misstep and Gitaxian Probe in nearly ever deck in EDH.

So are you arguing the flavor of the card, or the mechanical aspect of the card?

Yeah, I'm having trouble keeping track of which aspects each side is arguing from as well. Could we get a chart?

    There are 2 'tribes' here:
One that is saying that it won't break the format, so we should allow hybrid mana.
The second cares about sancity of the format and that allowing hybrid would ruin it.

I'd place myself pretty firmly in the middle here. It probably won't break the format, and I wouldn't mind if it did happen, but I don't feel that it's a change that needs to happen.

Color identity was originally just the color on the card. Myself and like-minded people said "hey, you should CHANGE the color identity rule so Memnarch, despite being colorless, would have a blue color identity." And they did. Now myself and like-minded people are saying "hey, you should CHANGE the color identity rule to hybrid cards, despite being multicolor, could have a monocolor color identity."

But what's to stop yourself and like-minded people from then saying "You know what, we can play hybrid cards in mono-colored decks, so why not just get rid of the color restriction altogether?" It is another common suggestion. In fact, it's more common than asking to allow hybrid cards.

because there are several game interactions that already don't make sense within the Commander rules framework.

So we should intentionally make more? That seems even more nonsensical.

107.4e Hybrid mana symbols are also colored mana symbols. Each one represents a cost that can be paid in one of two ways, as represented by the two halves of the symbol. A hybrid symbol such as {W/U} can be paid with either white or blue mana, and a monocolored hybrid symbol such as {2/B} can be paid with either one black mana or two mana of any type. A hybrid mana symbol is all of its component colors.
Example: {G/W}{G/W} can be paid by spending {G}{G}, {G}{W}, or {W}{W}.

Can this be changed? Sure. And RC could rule change commander to do so, or Maro could do something to get it changed if it were necessary.

The issue if it is only changed for Commander? Now there is a ruling that breaks EDH rules from regular MTG rules that other formats while playing the game. That is not intuitive.

I think this is one of the most important points for the anti-hybrid side. Keeping the rules as close to regular MTG rules is quite relevant.

Hybrid cards were intended to be played in their respective monocolor decks, and Wizards succeeded at this in all sanctioned formats. EDH is a little slow to this concept, but better late than never.

Yeah, sure. Is it really so convenient to allow it, though? I'm not seeing it. I think that from a mechanical standpoint, you immediately run into the issue that it might be too much of a rules contradiction to change it. A flavor standpoint is something more debatable. An intentions standpoint is interesting. But if we're going off of precedence by intention, then shouldn't we be mostly thinking from a mechanical standpoint, anyways? I think it's possible that the intentions standpoint slips by this issue, but I'm yet to be completely convinced, which would warm me over significantly to the idea of changing the rules.

Yeah, I love Pox, but I wouldn't suggest it with your mana base. Exquisite Blood-Sanguine Bond combo is pretty bad, too, by the way.

Rings of Brighthearth seems amazing for you, at the very least for fetches and your general.

posted a message on Poll: What is your relationship with house rules in the Commander format?
We found partial paris to make it way too easy to sculpt insane starts and the disparity between the uber-starts and the eh-starts were way too common.

I'm surprised just how few people get this. After seeing a handful of decks with only 20-25 lands that would abuse partial paris to no end, I have steadily been less and less enthused by it.

Unfortunately it looks like the only decks that can actually play competitively right now are Ezuri elfball and black decks designed specifically to counter elfball. The banlist definitely needs another wave of additions and a lot more testing.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain why this format should be played over Duel as the competitive singleton general using format of choice.

I agree with Jivan here. I like Tiny Leaders as a casual format, but competitively Duel seems so much better. I don't think this tiny format lives up to the leading amount of hype among commander-style formats.

Yeah, and you can apply that to racism. No black people in the front of the bus=no infinite combos. Stop being racist let me play combos
    /end sarcasm.
But seriously it's not a matter of the combos, or the deck, it's the mentality behind the people that play it. So I think the best thing to do is to ban people from groups.

Because they are black? I think that's a bit outdated, at least here in the US... I don't know... I'm not particularly racist.

If not the blacks then who are we supposed to hate in the US again? I can never quite remember who's turn it is, maybe it's the Chinese turn, or is it the Jews again?

Their prices are what they are. I don't actually buy singles from them so that part of the company doesn't concern me much. I know there is a lot of debate about but I try to stay out of it. What I don't understand is the firing of Lauren Lee, canceling their PT sponsorship and now this.

You do realize that SCG has semi-monopolistic control over the entire MtG market?
