I've never really considered myself as being one type of player, we used to sit down to a table with about 6 or 7 different decks and work our way through them, counterspell, land destruction, reanimation, direct damage, mill, beasts, whatever.
We found that people hated playing against my land destruction deck, so I just put it to one side and only dragged it out if a new card came out.
Magic is meant to be fun for everyone, if your opponents hate playing then you are all doing it wrong.
Errors are rarer than their non error counterparts but this doesn't make them worth more intrinsically. What makes them worth more is that some people like to collect errors.
If you have one error and two collectors then you have something of value.
This booster may not be rare, but it is the only one available at the moment.
I would buy it for more than the cost of a normal booster, all you have to do is find one more collector who wants to pay more than me and you are already ahead of the game. You probably won't retire on the proceeds of the sale but that is also true of opening the booster.
I recently decided to get back into magic after leaving around the Urza Block, nothing local but on a trip to Sydney I found a gaming shop. I went up to the counter and asked if he had the latest edition of InQuest.
After he stopped laughing he told me he had boxes of back issues and I could have the lot for a dollar.
I went through the boxes, pulled out about 20 back issues some old Scryes and something that had some foil lightening hounds in them. I would have taken more but I couldn't take the weight on the plane.
The seller looked at them all and I could tell he was regretting his offer but he still only charged me $1, I told him I would give him $5, I still got them cheap (and I still felt bad, a dollar each would have been fairer) I also bought some other boosters which I didn't really need as they were more expensive than some of the other shops I visited.
I think he just wanted to get the space back in his shop!
In a few months time the value of the cards could drop, the seller won't give you a refund.
Craft punches come in various styles, unlikely that you would find one to exactly match the profile you are after, but at least they will all look the same.
Some friends introduced me to the game at Unlimited but I never got too interested as it seemed hard to learn. I started collecting the cards at Revised/Fallen Empires as I was mad on trade cards and there were no other interesting sets around in the UK. Then some work mates started playing so I joined in, we were mad on the game and eventualy the four of us moved into a flat together (we were all living in our family homes) We split boxes, went to tournaments, pre releases etc.
Then I moved and stopped playing when the first foils came out as I couldn't be bothered to complete two sets of cards. Fortunately I sold nothing! Just boxed up the albums and put them with the other trade cards, star wars figure, cereal and fast food promo toys in the attic.
Then a friend wanted to get me into a space ship game called Gothic, we played one game and in return I showed him how to play magic and gave him a box of commons. We never played Gothic again and dragged a couple of other people into the group, this was around the time beasts started cropping up all over the place. Played with them for a couple of years before emigrating to Australia and haven't picked up a card since ( bought a load of bosters for the collection though)
A friend and I found those 6 card boosters last night and when I touched a pack, I could feel the security device inside. My friend bought one to see what it was and how it was attached. It is a standard little security device that is held in place by being attached to a blank white card. The card is cut to the size and shape of a regular Magic card, but is pure white on both sides.
I am glad your friend has an enquiring mind. And thanks to everyone else who replied.
If this is put in at the factory and then distributed does that mean that every shop with a security system basically uses the same system, either that or the security device is compatible with every system.
The only shop that seems to sell them here in Australia is Electronics Boutique and they keep them in a locked cabinet behind the counter.
Hi, I just picked up 6 of the mini packs of New Phyrexia, the 6 card boosters. I collect unopened boosters so I will not be cracking them.
Two of the boosters have raised areas, 4cm by about 1 cm and about a mm thick.(about 2 inches by 1/2 an inch) which you can feel through the packaging. They are both around the same location on the back of the packs and they seem fixed in place, they aren't sliding about.
I know that shops sometimes used to put the security strips under the flap at the back of the booster but these are actually inside the booster so it must have been done at the factory.
Is this normal? I haven't bought boosters for a long time and this is the first time I have ever come across it.
interesting. personally i believe that aslong as i still get cards im fine with it. even though i want to start a wall with booster shells/wrapping i still find the cards more valuable.
Have you seen the price of empty booster packs for Legends and Antiquities? If they keep going up in price maybe we will start seeing fake empty boosters for sale, forget the cards!
I really love the Schrodinger's Cat aspect of this all.
When you finally do display them, perhaps have a plaque made alluding to that.
It shouldn't be too hard to find the top priced Rare and Uncommon for each series along with the bottom priced Rares and uncommons. Stick them on a spreadsheet and I should be able to get the potential top value of the entire collection and the scraping-the-bottom-of-the barrel value, should be a wide spread, particularly with the Unlimited booster and the Three Kingdoms booster in there.
Then I have to find a way of displaying the tournament packs but that can wait.
I came across fake foil Pokemon cards in Ibiza, Spain back in 99/2000, they weren't in a booster though, just a bunch of them in an elastic band, the fronts just peeled off. I gave them to a friends daughter and told her they were all fake, neither her or her friends cared the slightest, they just liked the pretty pictures and they were all happy to trade them back and forth, I don't think they knew how to play the game.
Over in Greece you can buy decks of some sort of Generic Manga card game, I bought a couple of decks for a laugh but I still have no idea how you are supposed to play the game.
I am actually OK with having the fake boosters, they are a novelty and although I overpaid for them I can see them being slightly collectable once everyone has a full set of everything they actually want they will start looking around for the more obscure items. Plus I have enough for a full set and spares for any other fake boosters that come along if I need to swap like-for-like.
The cards in the boosters aren't even the big ticket items that you would want if you were buying singles so I have no idea why the fakers went this route rather than producing singles, I think the quality of the cards is too poor, they are actually better boosters than the cards inside but there was still a mix of cards, not just the same one 15 times so someone has gone to some effort to mix them up and pack them and seal them, just not someone with access to decent printing equipment.

The contents are probably normal but the sealed booster would make a good addition to a sealed booster set.
Once opened you could still get a bit for it, but not as much.

but...
Craft punches come in various styles, unlikely that you would find one to exactly match the profile you are after, but at least they will all look the same.
But we decided not to do it...right?
Maybe it is cheaper to produce cardboard boxes than to make the plastic/glue/and card blister packs and seal the boosters inside.
