I am currently trying to get a start in playing Vintage format with a budget of around $200. And Oath has always been one of my favorite cards, plus a deck that can function on a slimmer budget. The list i am currently using was put together based off a few guides i've been able to find and looking over event lists to see what consistently works. For the foreseeable future this will be a powerless build, save for any X-number of proxies events i am able to go to. I have done some testing of this list online and so far it's proven fairly consistent. Right now i own all the listed cards minus Forbidden Orchard. At the moment i would prefer to keep the land base GU to keep costs down but that aside i am open to any recommendations. Thank you in advance.
To clarify a couple picks: Gaea's Blessing- I've had some issues with milling myself a bit lower than i would like, i can drop to 1 but i would like to keep at least a single copy in the md.
Echoing Truth- Online i have seen more than a few people running token decks (not sure how prevalent this is irl at vintage events) but rarely has it been a completely dead card.
Spell Pierce- Force Spike 5-8 and they have saved me quite a few times in early turns. Though from what i have seen opinion is rather divided on the card.
Been playing since Urza block and got burnt out with standard after New Phyrexia. And i havent really kept up with the game outside of EDH since but AMK looked interesting enough for me to want to get back in to T2. I went to my local FNM for draft last night and after what i drafted+picked out of the c/uc bin and pulled i managed to put this together. I know it needs a lot of work but i would like to keep my budget under $100 if possible for upgrading. Don't mind swapping to tokens or something but i would like to keep it B/W. Thank-you in advance for the help.
So i was playing a game of EDH with a friend of mine and he casts disenchant targeting my Memnarch. Now I'm genuinely wondering how this interaction goes, can't say I've ever had anyone try to DE it or any other artifact creature so far as i can recall. I want to say since its a creature and not just a plain artifact like Sol Ring for example it cant be targeted but i don't really know for sure.
Based in GA, never heard of the Scry 2 deal with any of the shops/groups i've played with. In my regular playgroup we allow 1 free mulligan and a ban on mill and Stasis decks as well as no infinite loops.
From whats listed would most love to see a return to Arabian Knights. It always struck me as one of the more interesting early blocks. Plus there is so much middle eastern lore to draw from i really think it would be a great set to revisit for a block.
Depends on the theme of the deck to some extent, like my Urzatron and artifact heavy decks will always use lands with Mirodin art. Or my for my mono black decks i tend to get out my Japanese PVC swamps. And anytime i run snow lands it has to be my original Ice Age ones.
No, not really if anything id like to see the do away with foils altogether. Especially whatever different process it is they use on the FTV sets, those cards just look and feel cheap.
Not sure it is viable without Garruk and Vaults. The current crop of slivers just aren't on the same power level as the previous incarnations we've had. And the only chance at them being good is either run good stuff like Garruk and Vaults or wait and see if more are printed in this current rotation. Trust me this is not a slight, i love slivers and want them to be viable in current standard but i just dont see it.
Doing big things is fun. Preventing your opponent from doing big things is also fun. However, land destruction takes it too far.
I would tend to disagree, now of course you can have your opinion on the matter. But to me LD, prision decks and control are much more fun that playing some boring old aggro deck. If anything i would say combo decks, certainly t1-2 kill ones go way too far.
Im thinking about dusting my old Psychatogs off and giving them another go so this is fairly relevant to my interests.
First off you ever find 4 Upheavals to be awkward? You only need to hit one to seal the game, but then again there isnt a ton of draw in this deck so maybe that's about right.
Spell Pierce > Negate - This isn't a fast deck and it's faily "draw-go" so the 1 extra shouldn't hurt your curve too bad, for a hard counter.
The only other thing that pops out at me is Boomerang, may I ask what it's in here to deal with exactly?
It is a bit awkward to run 4 of tog and upheaval yes. I do plan to cut them down to 3 off max though.
Agreed, soon as i can find my playset of GOT they are going in.
True, i mainly ran them to have anice to have a nice turn 1 counter should i need it. But no Negate wouldnt hurt the curve at all. Think i with SB them and see about negate or another cheap counter.
Not really sure, mainly just because i have always ran it out of habit. but also it gives me some breathing room should a threat slip through and i can bounce it back and delay them. it may be a better SB card though.
I have to agree to most of what Odin's Chosen has said. You don't need the full set of Upheaval, 3 should be enough. Even Psychatog can be reduced to just 3 since one should win the game. Boomerang isn't a good choice too since you want to eliminate the threat and not just let your opponent play it again. Then add things that would fill your graveyard like Fact or Fiction or even Forbidden Alchemy.
Why Spell Pierce over Circular Logic? Although both will work post Upheaval to protect Psychatog from removal but Logic is better prior to upheaval. Chainer's Edict is also a staple of the deck you're missing. Although it lacks the instant speed of Diabolic Edict the flashback is quite useful.
Soon as i find my copies FOF is going in along with Brainstorm and maybe divination or ackumulated knowledge.
grr, how could i forget about Circular logic.
Added 4 Diabolic Edict
I just don't get it, it seems like how i would teach a child to play before they can understand proper magic. Mana screw and flood are aspects of the game that you learn to deal with. Simple as that.
Working on making a casual Psychatog deck to kick around with. It has been my favorite deck since i started MTG but the old list I've played for a while now is starting to just fall behind.
