Through another post, someone brought this type of deck to my attention and I'm thinking about building it...although it's a slightly different approach than you're taking. Just for reference, something like:

Just as kind of a rough skeleton. I haven't quite figured out any land base or exact cards, but I think I might try a build like this. Also taking some of the bigger creatures from your list. Just another idea on the deck.

I suppose a more aggro control

As a college student (poor) who enjoys competitive (fnm) magic (expensive), I'm looking to get back into standard possibly. How can I do this and still pay for school? (cheapest competitive lists so far?) Obviously we don't know exactly what's going to be a home run deck yet, but archetype/colors don't matter to me. I just want to play a good deck and not break the bank...I would just be playing at FNMs so if it's just a more "fun" deck, that's okay too.

I think it depends on how competitive you tend to play. I personally think it's a decent way of fetching something you need for 4 mana. I also am a poor college student that plays EDH on a budget Tongue For a more casual player/deck, it seems really good. I understand though that when you get more competitive with a higher budget, I agree that it just doesn't cut it.

Probably BUG...all the synergy with everything. Plus control fromUB and ramp from G is pretty sweet.

Chroma cares about numbers of mana symbols. You might like Umbra Stalker.

Forgot about Chroma...might have to check some of those out. Any other suggestions?

I also forgot about Phyrexian Obliterator...one of my favorite cards from that set.

I'm looking to put together an Erebos EDH as a midrang-y, control-y, do-what-black-does-best kind of deck. I'm looking for cards similar to devotion where they say, "this effect happens equal to the number of black permenants you control" or "when this enters the field, something happens equalled to the number of black mana symbols in permenants you control", etc etc. I would look it up on magiccards.info but it's way to broad for what I'm looking for. Any help would be great. Thumbs Up

Just reserving a spot, but I'm going to make a request once your life calms down a bit (that's why I had to close my shop, unfortunately...).

  • posted a message on What strategies are fun to you?
That's why this format is, imo, the most "fun". According to the poll, everybody likes something, and there isn't any one strategy that seems favored.

In any case, I've always been interested in a combination of control, group hug, and pillow fort...though I've never actually made a group hug or pillow fort deck, they've always been a strategy that's caught my eye.

  • posted a message on The “How’d you go at the Theros Prerelease?” Thread
Started off the night by product distribution. My friend sitting next to me gives me his box and takes the next one....he pulls Thassa, Heliod, and Thoughtsieze Facepalm For rares, I got the Bident of Thassa (seeded rare), Kraken promo, White promo (in a pack) and nothing else really good. Ended up going 1-2 drop mostly because of either land screw or not drawing one of my 10 bombs in the deck when I needed it. Although I sucked, I thought it was a really cool set for limited. Didn't have a chance to play heroic, but bestow and monstrosity are both really cool abilities. Looking forward to some drafting!

  • posted a message on [[THS]] Bestow Criticism
I think bestow is fine. The reason it's so high costed is to keep it from being too broken. If they printed a creature, something like:

    Bestow Creature 3UU

    Flying, vigilance

When ~ dies, if it is the first time it dies, return it to the battlefield.

    4/4

people would be all over that. I think that it's appropriately costed for what it does. Just my two cents.

I've been out of the loop with the promo card stuff so sorry if this has been said a lot, but is the promo you choose playable for the event?

This may have been said, but I'm going to play decvils advocate and give some positives for this guy. With the scry mechanic coming back, there will probably be a good amount of it going on. Scenario: your opponent scrys 2-3 setting up some awesome play, you drop this guy and give them luck of the draw again. Seems alright to me...

Also his -x can actually be pretty solid, even if you don't hit something big. A single blocker/attacker can completely change the game (not 100% of the time, but still). Then, when you do hit something big, it's that much more rewarding.

I know he's not the best walker out there right now, but we also haven't seen how the meta will change after standard rotation/ the rest of Theros. FWIW, I'm not particularily fond of him, but just want to throw out some more ideas of how he can be used.

  • posted a message on [[THS]] Best God in Standard Constructed?
I think WotC did a really nice job designing the god cards...I think it's apparant from this thread that there really isn't a best god out there other than just by favorite color/opinion. Each god has their spot in their color and does something good, not to say that every god is on the same power level....that being said, I do think think that a lot of decks will use Purphorous the most. It's great in faster red decks with lots of creatures coming on the field, plus it never hurts to have an extra 2 damage get through later in the game, or pumping a few times with extra mana. Just my 2 cents
