PimpDonny posted a message on Modern Esper Draw-GoWelll I usually hit the odd junk deck every other league for the most part players in comp league play the hot flavour of the month or are grdinders like myself on their fav pet deck the friendly leagues are literally the Wild West and should be steered clear off based on the fact our deck is better suited when tweaked for the upper tiers.Posted in: Control -

I don't need to be a certified M.D. to let you know that bleeding from your ears is a very bad thing.
I don't need 15 years of experience as a mechanic to tell you that smoke coming out of your car's engine is kinda dangerous.
Just sayin.... -

In other news I jammed a bunch of games last night playing ses's most recent list with mi or adjustment to sb( still love stony over hurks) and I added a narset to test over the snare. After playing through I have a few thoughts:
Mana leak is perfectly fine as a 2 off to have early and still applications later in the game as they try and jam multiple threats a turn and we can then snipe their more powerful second drop after okaying a likely test spell.
Ashiok I was hesitant about but after sb vs both lantern where it's basically our win con of choice and also slower decks he's an allstar, and when combined with narset who just dominates a semi clear board it's unstoppable.
I have not missed my snaps more then a handful of specific points, and it feels good to care even less when a relic of prog comes down cause it's basically like they mulled as the card shuts off very little in our list with out needing to rely on snap targets.
Final point.... Played vs Patrick dickman(ofelia) r1 of a league he was on bring to light scapeshift and just wrecked him game 1 g2 was a mid game rot cryptic into scape as he had like 2 in hand and I made a wrong line that was cold unless he had exact those 2 but game 3 he was light on mana and I went discard mode early and almost died to baloth but I bounced it and managed to fire off a rev for 5 and he never recovered and ashiok/narset took it home. -

JJKMAN posted a message on Modern Esper Draw-GoI agree with that, too, and I never said that we should run AV. I'm just saying that if you did want to cram AV in the deck then you should be using Charm's discard mode more than the draw mode. Constantly making them discard 2 and drawing copious amounts of cards sounds like a lot of fun if it could be made to work.Posted in: Control -

I just checked out the top 8 lists there and I have no idea how any of them did well at all. The grixis lists look just like the older versions that are soft to anything unfair and the gifts deck I really can't figure out how it can beat the aggressive decks at all. If this is a typical modern meta game I'd be VERY glad to jam esper or UW and just clean house. Control decks playing zero counters? Gifts decks that can't win without resolving gifts? I mean really, wtf was going on in that room that made this ok? So confused... -

4 Jund, 1 Abzan, 3 bug with visions bc I anticipate that getting big.
Tweaked the sideboard bc I kept getting blown out by maelstrom pulse on my big elspeth.
Anyway, I'm here to preach the good news about [card]GRAVE TITAN[\card]. I'm playing two. Great against gbx and zoo stuff. Still loving wurmcoil too. Love those fatties
I've been a fan of the gravy train literally since I started playing the deck. I've moved it from the main to the side and back again based on how the meta shifts, but I never leave home without it. Currently Elspeth 6 is better in the main because she's a bit more versatile in that she can kill stuff and is nearly immune to removal. But against fair decks like CoCo and jund grave titan is a million times better because they simply won't be able to kill it without losing a lot of their board to do so. -

Certainly it's not the Esper Mentor thread, as these guys are casting thought scour and the likes of a midrange oriented Tasigur build.
I do not think many prople mind spesking about tapout lists. The thing that derails the thread is when someone comes with a clear midrange list and tells us we are doing it wrong. -

We are only playing black for esper charm currently (a card thats insane and a good reason for playing esper), but there is somite good black removal for us.
Believe it or not 2 mana removal is too slow for modern. If you are playing two mana they have to be of the power level of decay and terminate and even the decks that can play those have been cutting down. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

That being said. It's pretty straightforward. My concept for switching from Think Twice / Rev Engine to AV / Serum was, as Donny said, to stay low to the ground.
Assuming we rev for 5, the think twice and Rev package net us 18 cards for 36 mana, ancestral nets us 12 for 4 mana.
You could argue that the life gain is worth a card too, but still, thats 20 cards for 36 mana.
These aren't new arguments. It's just that I played an awful lot of games where Rev felt clunky, and I wanted SV, but didn't have room for everything. Ancestral Vision serves the role of both think twice and Rev in this sense. Which gives us room for more cheap answers.
Sideboard should be more of the same. The same core advantage engine, powering out either a) more removal and board control b) more counters
and then stuff like runed halo which is always an all star and versatile in basically every matchup.
Donny mentioned keeping the numbers the same, but moving alliance main and a few halo to the board to get maximum value out of snapcaster game 1.
looking at the sideboard, you'll see there's no (reasonable) matchup we don't have SOME sort of out to. Keeping broad answers like detention sphere and Halo help against dredge, or even something as obscure as lantern (halo on codex shredder)
In fact, I won a lantern match this weekend by putting halo on codex shredder, then casting secure for a bunch, and letting AV come off suspend and target my opponent, which let me underneath ensnaring bridge. D sphere would have worked there too if I had drawn it.

We've got enough debate about secure vs WsZ / souls or no souls, to have to deal with his social justice nonsense.

Split with Jund shift player in the finals just now. He completely destroyed me in the first two games and I came back in games 3 and 4 pretty convincingly. Buylisting the first and second place prize support (mox sapphire and some ancestral visions) then splitting the check.
Never played game 5 of the finals, but did grab Chinese food with my opponent and talked about our day. So far... not changing a single card. Tron seems miserable though..
Semis was 2-1 vs jeskai nahiri, 2-0 vs affinity, and 2-2-1 vs Jund shift.

People will even tell you keranos is unplayable
However I sleeved up my foily Japanese keranos tonight also. Slams bg/x. Beats blood moon hilariously, and doesn't care about ensnaring bridge
I APPROVE

Lol your post represents exactly how I feel.
I brew lots of other stuff, I even designed 2 decks for my team mates that they've been tearing up win a mox and win a box stuff with (Notably, my UB Fae build) , but anytime I even play another deck just for testing team purposes, I feel naked and out of place
I have to be doing durdly things and resolving supreme verdict. There's no better feeling than watching an elves player or zoo player over extend and then getting a four or five for 1. My blood pumps faster just TYPING that sentence and thinking about it.
Bouncing your lili with cryptic, drawing, then charm snap charming you
I think I need some time alone you guys
Also, ditto on twin being the only other deck I could have reasonably played. Far had its draws, but this boy loves to durdle.

No way. I never play less than 4 cryptics. I don't think in the 2 years I've been playing this deck I've ever cut cryptics, and if I did, it was just a testing thing and I quickly realized it felt bad

And honestly ALL I WANT IS AN ABRUPT DECAY COUNTERSPELL
UU: COUNTER TARGET SPELL WITH CMC 3 or less
PLEASE AND THANK YOU

So do you REALLY need another card to make this situation favorable???
