Pretty easy to see Tom lapille is why this blows. I have never liked him as a lead.
Wizards was trying to Hard to avoid a chronicles situation, Make a limited format and make modern cheaper. You cant have all three, and due to demand and the current popularity and multiple formats of the game, the Chronicles issue is not going to happen again. You can thank EDH for that.
Having a bunch of core set limited staples make me sick. Some are interesting and ok but they are bland, there is hardly any depth or uniqueness to this like MM1. Id like to see MM3 sooner than later with a New lead and cutting out as much Coreset fodder as possible. If the limited format was interesting I could get over the other stuff. Hopefully the drafts are fun, Im still going to do them just for the chance to test the format.
there is no reason it couldn't have been rare maybe Obliterator could still be rare? because that card needs a reprint much more than the stupid Archangel
Why? it really see's no play across any format. It is a casual favorite yes, and people "try" to force it to be good, But DC does see play and should be a mythic. Obliterator is not a good card for this format. They do not want you to be drafting mono black, you can but its not going to be a common thing. And Bitterblossom fits the theme of what they want black doing more than he does as well.
Really wish people would get over that terrible janky card.
Really really hoping for key Mill cards and tribal cards, particularly Glimpse the Unthinkable
Mill is a little problematic in Limited. Hopefully they'll sacrifice a completely optimal Limited environment for reprints of sought-after cards, but that seems a little unlikely.
No thanks. MM1 was one of my best drafting experiances in the game, I want the optimal limited format. Ive played since tempest and besides Innistrad, MM1 is my favorite
I just don't believe $70 cards at rare is ever happening, even with the raised MSRP.
Also, why are we treating this guy's word like law? He called it on the first MM. Cool. What's there to confirm he's right again?
Cryptic was printed before at rare, and both cards are only $70 cause of the demand, not because they deserve the $70 price tag.
Really Do not see a issue, other than ou guys discussing what happened and solving the issue. I see more of a problem with them both running the almost same exact deck against you.
After discovering Budget MTG decks on Youtube, they recently put out a Marchesa budget list (check them out, sweet stuff there) and then seeing it in action on Gameplays by Clonehead (wonderful game play channel, Highly suggest checking them out).
Link to decklist: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/budget-marchesa-the-black-rose/ Once I can get the time and after making some suggested cuts and additions I will Update and post my list on here. I am by now means a Black or Grixis mage,I wouldnt mind turning this into a primer since she is missing one. Eventually lol.
List of things I want the deck to do:
1. Abuse sacrifice engines with Marchesa, the Black Rose to generate CA. Goal is to do so at EOT of opponents turn, or use as combat tricks.
ex. Abuse Sadistic Hypnotist, Blood Artist and value guys like Mulldrifter
2. Be fast to keep up with ramp and combo decks, while still being able to hinder them when I need to.
3. Stand on it's own feet with the big kids.
4. Maintain a lower curve.
5. Feel and play like the old Aristocrats from ISD/RTR standard. Quick and brutal at times, or grindy attrition with a tad of control.
6. Value of the list is about 30ish, I have a good budget sat aside for this project.
Issues I know need to be addressed:
1. The manabase is goof for a buget deck, but I need to boost it up to a normal deck. Shocks, fetches, buddy lands etc.
2. Add in artifact ramp
3. Ensure my Sac engines are solid. Currently the deck has the Nantuko Husk and all its variants, need variety.
4. Ensure I have enough value guys without hindering speed. (Value creatures with Haste would be most ideal)
5. Ensure Marchesa is not my only way to dominate, I dont want to durdle without her, but still be a ot better with her in play. Also need to establish ways to protect her. (Really wish Cartel Aristocrat was RB.
I would like to thank you in advance for the help. I am trying to get this done before I move in 50 days to play with my current group who helped restore my love for edh.
Yea Millikin has almost always been great for me. are you loving Ugin so far? He has been a boss for me, but usually just removes the field and leaves me way ahead of everyone else.
My Daretti deck probably is slower and plays different than yours. Im still missing some of the really important cards. Rings of Brighthearth and the wheels.
I see you don't care for extraplanar lens and still run snow mountains. Any reason as to why, I am probably just overlooking something.
I try to get Daretti out asap, with guys likeIron Myr and other artifact ramp, seems to usually set me up to win the game quickly.
Some interesting choices I run areMillikin, Recoup and Outpost Siege. Millikin has been really good for me with casting Daretti early and sometimes setting up a instant welder effect. Recoup is mainly there as a 2nd and 3rd Scrap Mastery (I love casting Scrap Mastery). Outpost Siege has been decent, but I only use Khans mode and I think I could get more value elsewhere.
I guess I am more prone to Mindslaver lock people out than you are from reading your posts. I have kinda chilled out on it some. I know mainly take over someone who doesnt quite understand what they should do, help them out or kill someone instead of me. I did make a Grimgrin player combo off and Kill everyone but himself once. That counts as a win right? Or Took over Uril and Enchanted my Welder into a badass, that was great.
You are really a advocate for me to buy a Bazaar now. I can't even fathom how good it is in here and Toshiro
Yea the tuck rule change affected my choice on what decks to build next, I was looking at a Dragonlord Ojutai myself. Wife was able to attend a pre release for me and pulled a pre release foil, then the tuck change happened. Gonna miss making the Animar, Soul of Elements player useless.
Swapping cards is a big deal to me, livens up the deck from time to time and can give it a different direction at times.

That is exactly why it is.

How has Valakut, the molten Pinnacle been for you?
