thank you members of the izzet for your inventive guidence

I'm not sure the word "inventive" applies in this situation. Just try not to get spam infractions on your way to 1k.

I know I'm going to get a custom eventually; I wonder if anyone with a custom will ever have as low of a ppd as I'm bound to. Logistically, no one with a custom now can have a ppd as low as mine at this point, since I joined the site right at the beginning.

In other news, I've discovered the vast potential for profit that is the magic tournament trade market. My binder's value increased by $400 this last weekend, and I almost made top 8 of a 5k but screwed myself over by being a Nice Guy (TM).

Anyways, you guys want information on our new thread. I've been a little too patient with Nakamura, as I wanted our banner to be ready to go before posting it, so I'll give him a nudge towards that after I finish writing up this post. Tentative new thread date is this Friday, so submit whatever title ideas you have until then and I guess we can start voting on Tuesday. Ideas so far:

[The Izzet] Could Have Gotten Away With it, if it Wasn't for Those Meddling Kids!
[The Izzet] Started The Chain Reaction
[The Izzet] Know All About Mind Sculpting

I would've come back and posted more if I were prodded, any chance you could do a mod prod that for our inactives?

I haven't been following closely enough to consider a very meaty post, but I don't think clayton has been particularly scummy or his ability would make sense on a scum. He should definitely be using it tonight, and I'd like to think that would mostly clear him.

Zin, are you sure you want to end the day like this or could we just wait for AI to take over and let him sort things out?

If the deadline stands, I'll put aside the time for a reread to attempt to figure out what's going on, but these are my current impressions.

Just came back from the worldwake release party. I ran a R/B deck, here's the list.

As you can see, when cracking Abyssal Persecutor and Bazaar Trader your destined for R/B.

I got in third place with this list. There were four rounds and I went 3-1. Here were my match ups.

    First Round 0-2.
He got this awesome U/B deck with tons of lock down and bounce cards. He took my Abyssal Persecutor with this one card... forgot what it was called. It cost 5 and had the word vapor in it.... :-/. He did this twice and completely destroyed me. He ended up getting first place out of 23 people.

    Second Round 2-0.
This round I played with someone I had never played before. He was a younger kid, so I'm guessing he's a starter. He was playing a not-so-hot R/W deck with not a lot of creatures. I overpowered him, plain and simple. I kinda felt bad :(.

    Third Round 2-0.
This was the funnest round. He was playing U/B with a lot of creatures. First game I got by Abyssal Persecutor out on turn four and played Bazaar Trader the next turn. Persecutor beat him down and Bazaar Trader gave him a present. Win for me. Next game he had alot of creatures but I managed to get my Persecutor out and beat face. My bazaar trader got milled by his Hedron Crab but I had a Burst Lightning and was able to pay the kicker cost. He kept attacking with a 1/1 so I decided to equip his 1/1 with kitesail bringing him up to 2/1 and I blocked with my Persecutor, Burst Lightning the Persecutor for 4 and it was GG.

    Last Round- 2-0.
This guy was a friend of mine and was playing a G/B/W deck that was decent. I beat him down with my Vampire Nighthawk and Ruinous Minotaur equipped with Spidersilk Net. I won that game. Next game he got mana screwed and I beat face with Persecutor and Bazaar Trader FTW!.

My prize for third place was 6 packs. I got 2 man lands, The R/G one and the B/W one. I got a Novablast Wurm, Goliath Sphinx, Death's Shadow, and a Anowon, The Ruin Sage. I was happy and I had a good time.

I'm not going to take this chance to blatantly insult your deck building skills, but you have some... questionable card choices in there. However, you should be aware that you can't equip your opponents creatues, so your kitesail play was not very legal. Imagine how completely and utterly more broken beyond repair skullclamp would've been if you could do that.

I didn't like m10 too much, but I agree Zendikar was a great set to draft. But my personal favorite is the Alara block. One pack from each set and it's a great time. Well, at least for me Tongue

I can understand why people like Zendikar, but Alara block too? Forcing people to play 3 color decks then loading the packs with color intensive 2 drops just makes it feel so random. In the same vein, a lot of cards in Zendikar go from really ☺☺☺☺ing amazing to really ☺☺☺☺ing useless depending on when you draw them, but not giving yourself the potential for blowout aggro games is likely to screw yourself over more than drawing cards at inopportune times will.

In general, weak players like fast formats and strong players like slow ones. Actually needing to navigate the draft properly to put together 22/23 playables has become a lost art.

I guess I'm somewhat of a drafting purist; I love the existence of cards like Brink of Disaster because it separates the men from the boys. M10 was full of cards like that, and people who could sort them out properly were the ones who won. I'm also a fan of color balance, which unlike Zendikar Block, M10 has.

So guys, it's time for a new thread. Title suggestions?

My biggest grammar pet peeve is you're/your, with its/it's coming in second.

I can only appreciate speed runs of games I've played, specifically the older ones which used difficulty to increase playtime rather than cutscenes and large overworlds. Let's Plays, however, I can appreciate independent of my own experiences, but it depends on the person making it as to whether or not I'll enjoy it. Spoony is a master of this art.

If we are going to use card art (probably a good idea), we should focus on group shots, since clans are groups of people. Coalition Victory is a good place to start. The issue is that most of these cards are white, so in the end, we'd still be showing a color preference.

Cards in standard with acceptable group shots:

    for the banner;
    I like "The Izzet":hifive:
i think you should include the guildmage, and perhaps one of the izzet lands

also; thanks for clearing that up pheonix and luck

We decided a while ago which arts we would like, and the favorites were quite clear. For now, your avatar will remain the home for our guildmage.

I agree that the new banner should have steam vents and scalding tarns somewhere on the background

Steam Vents, Izzet Boilerworks, and Cascade Bluffs are represented withing the words "The Izzet" in the banner.

also rocker do you have any ideas on the clan contest banner? personally it's tough for me to think of something that would be appropriate in an all around manner. how about strip magic with a table full of beautiful women completely dressed and one nerdy looking guy in sitting at the table in his underwear. lol just an idea

I'm afraid that would be REALLY hard to make and not look ridiculous. I'm afraid I'm fresh out of ideas in this category. Perhaps Ravus, who's hopefully spent some time in the clan council, can give us an idea?

It looks very nice (I like number 1 more personally, the readability of the second nonwithstanding), but would it be too much trouble to change it simply say "The Izzet?". Also, simlar to XenoNinja's suggesting, the words would be easier to read with a black border around the text in this case.

    Thanks a bunch!

wait, i don't get it, how could you enter the tournament, then dropout and draft again, do they let you do that at tournaments?

on another note; it snowed like five inches in my area, i doubt many people did the prerelease. what do they do with excess promos?

Pretty much any non-periodic tournament has side drafts so people whose day didn't go so well can still have some fun on the side while they wait for their friends to finish. I'm not sure if this was that case, as Lucknorris's solution also works.

For the banner, this is what we've got so far:

Do we want it to say "The Izzet" or "Join the Izzet Today!"?

I would like to make a request for a banner my clan's thread.

First off, here's what we've been using:

It would be nice if you could use the font here or one that's similar for the text portion. In addition, for the art portion, it would be nice if you could "stamp" the images besides Niv-Mizzet with the guild insignia as it is done above.

Now, the banner can be divided into two portions, the Art portion (on top) and the Text portion (bottom). The arts for the art portion we would like used are:
Gelectrode : Suffocating Blast : Invoke the Firemind : Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind : Development : Mirror Sheen : Electrolyze

That is the preferred order, unless the images don't meld together in that order in which case feel free to change it, with the exception that Niv-Mizzet needs to be in the middle. Also, it would be nice if Niv-Mizzet could have a relief illusion applied and be larger than the other arts, say 300 pixels tall and whatever width would be appropriate.

For the text portion, we can incorporate the lands (Steam Vents, Izzet Boilerworks, Cascade Bluffs, Scalding Tarn in whatever order looks best) by having the words "The Izzet" cut out of the lands' arts (i.e. as a fill pattern). The size should be large enough so that it doesn't dominate the art portion but isn't dominated itself, and definitely not wider than 800 pixels. If you require more art, Shivan Reef and Nivix, Aerie of the Firemind can also be used.

First off, welcome to the discussion everyone! I hope you stay around long enough joboman and Gargroyal to become apprentices, and I guess you would like to be a friend LRaven? I'll give you this opportunity to decide on your reasoning, or I may assign one to you.

I was also reminded of something we probably should take care of... Our clan banner.
    Here's where we left off:

We could really use a new banner for the clan, with something along the lines of what Guildmaster_Van made for us. I was thinking we could take 7 arts and cut an Izzet symbol out of each. It could look something like this...

    GGGGGGG

Except the Gs are Izzet symbols and It fills across the whole page, and Niv-Mizzet HAS to be in the middle. The arts we decided on in order are:

Gelectrode : Suffocating Blast : Invoke the Firemind : Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind : Development : Mirror Sheen : Electrolyze

In addition, we can incorporate the lands (Steam Vents, Izzet Boilerworks, Cascade Bluffs, Scalding Tarn in whatever order looks best) by having below this the words "The Izzet" cut out of the lands' arts.

Any comments or suggestions on which studio to hand it off to?

How do you demolish Tezz with Elves? That deck was designed solely to destroy elf decks. You run Cloudstone Curio?

Your eligible for membership after you apply. I may have missed it, but I have yet to see you actually say those words.

    1. Modern Tezzerator is completely different from the version that was designed to beat elves back in the day. And the modern elf decks are a little different too.

    2. Ravens is a test subject.

I would love to be a friend; Limited is just so much more fun than constructed, since you get to play with and against a different deck every time! I started drafting with Mirrodin, and have consistently gotten in 2+ drafts a week. In fact, most of the constructed testing sessions with my friends get sidetracked by drafts...

Zendikar is a pretty bad draft format though, just go B/R mana and you win, if you want a good draft try TSP-PLC-FUT.

They say draft is self-balancing, and it rings true in zendikar like anywhere else. Once everybody realizes how busted red and black are, the awesome early drops get divided up, opening the way for slower cards to become relevant, and (B/R) decks can stumble or run out of gas and lose easily. And TPF had a little problem child known as sprout swarm...

    Favorite formats: LLM, RGD, TTP

I like the idea of using Izzet artwork and im not understand why you don't want to. Can you explain it to me? Redface

The method by which the winning banner will be selected is a vote (I'm not sure if it's "arbitrary" judges or clan reps.), and people not in the Izzet probably won't like a banner that shows off how awesome our colors are. The goal of the contest is to make a banner that represents the clan council and by proxy, the entire clans forum. We are just one of many clans, so whatever we produce should be something a user in any clan can appreciate.

Thank you very much sir, and I agree with the Izzet style artwork. But who will make the banner?

Are you agreeing with my statement or the idea of using Izzet art..?

Anyways, It seems likely wamyc would like to make our banner when he gets back, as he's shown some shopping skills. Failing that, we'll probably have to recruit someone.
