So I came in 39th at GP: DC, having the worst tiebreakers of everyone in the 13-4 bracket. I think I've mostly recovered from the weekend, and now I need to go find a job. If you want to know what deck I played, refer to this article, as I played almost the exact same list.
An inquiry, if you don't mind: What do the Izzet think of life and death? Is taking one's own life ever acceptable? Why or why not? Don't feel obligated to answer, I don't mean to offend anyone, but be aware that I will probably aim to extend the dialogue exhaustively if you do reply.
1. Just clan contest stuff and a new thread...
2. Life is awesome, death seems horribly boring. I know there's a mystery to it and that's why people fear it; I can't comprehend the possibility of my consciousness just ending when I die, but that seems to be what's most likely to happen. Taking one's own life is horribly offensive to every person one has ever developed a relationship with, and serves no positive goal in my opinion.
Greetings, fellow mages.
I was wondering if I could join the Izzet clan.
My favorite color is red. Closely followed by blue, and I love the color combo, and considering the Izzet is one of my favorite guilds, I have decided that I would like, if you will accept me after being a test subject, to become a member of the clan.
Someone asked me who "jobbyman" was and that was my response.
Nice custom, bro.
So the movie needs to have a power levelgross over $9,000 (million) just to break even.
That said, Scarlett Johansson would be super-fine as Chandra. Her role in Iron Man 2 was so hot that my retinas were at risk for spontaneous combustion.
EDIT:
Elves of Deep Shadow, easily. Not only do I not find the Goth look attractive, but the art is also incredibly bland and uninteresting, especially when compared to the other entries. Magus of the Disk has the next-worst art IMO.
I would agree with you if the old art for elves of deep shadow wasn't so damn iconic. Yea it's bland, but that can be good sometimes since it makes it so easy to recognize.
Shahrazad looks goofy, Orosdoesn't seem to be doing much avenging, and magus of the disk is just plain boring. I say Magus is the worst of the three.
Welcome to the Izzet! Just take a look below to see what our members are posting, and if you feel like you want to get in on the conversation, you can easily join or become a friend!
How to Join
Simply post in our thread. You will be inserted into the test subject pool, which is a sort of temporary membership. If you are inactive for more than a week without prior notice during this period your membership may be nullified. If after a month you have proven to be an active and contributing member to the clan (This should be easy.), you will be promoted to apprentice and become a real member of the clan.
How to become a friend:
If you wish to be a friend, simply make a post (A reason would be nice too or you'll have to deal with an awful pun.) and you will be friendified.
On November 25, 2005, the Izzet clan was founded by the esteemed Masterbeeble with the allure of the new guild coming in Guildpact inspiring the imagination of many members of this forum. When the membership kept growing, it became clear that the U/R color combination was well loved by the MTG Salvation community. Oasis, Canada Man, and Wuffles all took their turns in leading the clan until just before Time Spiral came out.
On August 20, 2006, the clan came near death. Our most active members simply disappeared and the posting crawled to a minimum. Now that Ravnica was old news, the excitement just seemed gone. But thanks to our most dedicated members, the clan was able to return to greatness and holds a strong position to this day, earning Clan of the Year 2008 honors. Clearly, magic players love the allure of the colors blue and red.

When someone expresses a desire to join the clan, they become a test subject. If they maintain active posting habits, they become an apprentice and gain voting privileges becoming a true member of the clan. Whenever someone becomes a member of the clan, that member starts as an Apprentice. In the future, if that member proves him or herself to be valuable, then that member may be promoted to the position of Acolyte when there is an opening, such as when another Acolyte leaves the clan or a new High Mage is promoted. Likewise, an Acolyte can be promoted to the rank of High Mage when either a current High Mage leaves the clan or there are too many members for the system to support without another High Mage. Each High Mage may have at most one Acolyte and one Apprentice.

I'm switching my support over to Jhoira. I don't necessarily need a reason because I have no idea how this contest will end up. I just hope the criteria never has anything to do with being slow...
I was too busy taking the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam to go to a Saturday prerelease; maybe I'll go to one today but I get this feeling I should be doing homework...
Design (6/10): It makes 2/2 wolves, synergizes with the wrath effect, and puts counters on your dudes. I have NO idea why the recursion clause is there, and the rest of the card is just so bland.
Development (7/10): It doesn't break any rules, but is slightly overpowered. Making 2/2s isn't so bad, and the indestructible ability doesn't seem so ridiculous. I just have issues with the costing of the ultimate being too low and the starting loyalty being too high with that in mind. The recursion is the biggest offense here; I can understand putting a non-loyalty ability on a planeswalker, but this one is not a good testing ground.
Polish (5/5): I don't see any issues; I thought the recursion clause was worded poorly, but that appears not to be the case.
Total 18/25
Design (6/10): It's... interesting. Perfect for Johnnies and looks to be something spike would enjoy too. I like how she's a three mana planeswalker you'd almost always wait until turn 4 or later to play to snag something the turn she comes out. I really DON'T like how she has one ability you can use when you play her and two "ultimates." To that end, she feels more like an enchantment, which is a big design failure in my opinion.
Development (5/10): The first ability should in no way be +3; that's too much for a 'walker at this cost. The third ability is also way too backbreaking for a 'walker at this cost to be pulling off on the fifth turn she's out. The second ability might also have some issues as well; it is Timetwister after all.
Polish (4/5): There are no templating issues I see, but I do take issue with how this card appears to have no functional relation to The Wildewill.
It's called checking the first post guys. I update it a lot without making a post to say so, as I'm not a fan of spam.
Anyways, a nice warm welcome to our new test subjects feral hydra and Arew and our new friend Mr. Mindbreak!
@feral hydra: We love us some proper spelling and grammar. People may gloss over your posts and/or ignore you if you continue your habits.
@Neon_Lights: I take it you would love to be an apprentice; I hope you don't mind being mine...
@everyone: the time has come to send our inactive members to the portal. As a result, we have an open acolyte spot, so an apprentice needs to be promoted. The options are in the first post, and I'll fill the role on Sunday with your votes.
@Lucknorris: I've placed you under Clem right now, but if you wish, you can serve under wamyc instead. Just make sure to make this request before that spot gets filled if you want it.
@Daggertooth: Thanks for clearing that up. I guess the main issue I've had with this contest is that a lot of cards with really boring or patchwork design, which I'm not a fan of, got a lot of love. Despite the feelings of the rest of my clan, I'll say yours made some awesome cards .
Are we still seriously continuing this rivalry crap?
God damn it.
Honestly, I don't think any of the criticisms your clan levied upon us were unjustified, but I couldn't help but notice a pattern. Notice how we also scored your clan's cards below average as well, which is a much greater concern of mine as I feel we're being unfair to your cards as a whole. Like I said, it may just be that the type of cards that our clans make are just unappealing to each other.
The main reason I brought it up is because at this point in the contest, you aren't around to drive our scores down but we still have the power to do that to you, which I think may end up being rather unfair to your results. Personally, I have no idea why AI dislikes your card to the degree he does, and here are my scores:
Design (9/10): =Reasonable white ability unkicked, with a small black add-on kicked. Neither side is particularly unfun, and I could see it well-received by its target audience. Development (5/10): Too weak for constructed, plain and simple, and not even that impressive in limited. Also, I don't care if you're the family and your clan has mafia flavor; this is an English card, so use an English name.
Polish (4/5): The whole "to that player" instead of "to that creature's controller" thing is the only issue. Gets bonus points.
Design (8/10): A bloodthirst creature that shares the love. While it's a nice new spin on the ability and meets the requirement of relating mechanically to the round 3 submission, It's just kind of boring seeing more bloodthirst from them at this point. Development (7/10): Pushed a little bit in terms of power, but creatures are usually a lot easier to balance than spells so I can't give them too much credit here. Also, I don't quite understand how an alpha wolf would make his friends stronger than he is...
Polish (5/5): No issues; gets bonus points.
Design (8/10): I like the idea of a land that can give you the color you need over and over at no pain, and it seems like a nice implementation of a dual. I'm only taking of points because this card could've done more at the expense of coming into play tapped, which would've made for a much more interesting design. Development (9/10): AI, I strongly disagree with you here on it being overpowered. The card seems to hit the power level right on the mark, and Dakmor Salvage was better in Swans because it had a lower dredge number so that point is moot. The only issue I have is I don't really see how this land has dredge flavorfully.
Polish (5/5): No issues; gets bonus points thanks to being able to help with the casting cost and alternate cost for the round 2 entry.
Design (7/10): It's a land that lets you start or end conspiracies. Given the criteria, this really was one of the few designs available, but it has way too many variations on what could be such a simple ability and takes too long to read or understand, so it loses points there. Development (7/10): That ability is overcosted, plain and simple, and it doesn't really need to come into play tapped. The flavor at least makes sense.
Polish (4/5): Gets bonus points at the expense of being extremely ugly to look at. That may be functional wording, but it does not look nice.
I'm 30/70 Johnny/Timmy. I do like to win of course but I just love playing the game more than anything.
I'd like to become a test subject for joining the Izzet.
It's about time.
For the record, I'm a Spike/Timmy with about a 90/10 split. I love winning, and sometimes I love those games where i mercilessly curb stomp my helpless opponents, but that's only for the people who really deserve it. In general, I'd prefer to win while playing a nice, long, fun game.
Why oh why is Vengvine mythic? It seems pretty cool, but has to contend for a crowded fourslot in whatever deck it goes in, and every card that brings it back on its on also costs 4. It's somewhat annoying, but really powerful so maybe it'll be worth building around.
I'm going to remove Dark Majic from our list of test subjects, as it's very likely his suspension will be longer than two weeks and he kind of spammed up the place. If he should come back and behave properly then I'll add him again.

I have to agree, poor Mulldrifter...
