The End of an Era

    Alright guys, here's the deal:

I no longer have any desire to lead or be a member of this clan.

It was nice hanging out for the 5+ years I've been here, but it's time for me to move on. I'd like to remain a friend, for something involving stewardship or shepherding or perhaps my levelheadedness, but I'll leave that up to my successor to decide. For whomever does take up that role, don't forget to report the last post in the clan thread when you start a new one to tell the mods it's time to retire.

    My timing is awesome.

I just thought I'd stop by to see how things were going in the Izzet since I left and say hi.

Also, is anyone else going to States?

Does this mean you want to resume High Mage duties?

Also, has anyone seen wamyc around? He actually has not posted once in this thread.

@Zazi: I didn't bother to check on you, so I guess you're lucky on that count. Either way I'm still going to count the votes for you (Name recognition ftw!) unless those who voted for you want to change their minds consider you don't want to win...

@Russian Alara: Welcome! I was worried we would be without a test subject...

    High Mage Vote Count
Pheon - 4 (AI, Zajnet, Surging Chaos, Arew)
claytonthegreat - 3 (Ai, Pheon, Surging Chaos)
    Lucknorris - 4 (Pheon, Zajnet, V.M.Santore, Arew)
    Ratoly - 1 (V.M.Santore)

    Acolyte Vote Count
    Skizzik_NZ - 2 (AI, Pheon)
Zajnet - 5 (AI, Pheon, Lucknorris, V.M.Santore, Surging Chaos)
    Arew - 5 (Ratoly, claytonthegreat,
    Lucknorris, V.M.Santore, Surging Chaos)
    Zazirik - 2 (Ratoly, claytonthegreat)

I don't know if I mentioned it, but I'm thinking polls will close sometime on Sunday.

I thought it was common knowledge that top 16 at a 5k = $100. So after all my fees, I profited about $50 on the weekend.

As for promoting people and making a new thread, it would be a lot easier if those were to occur simultaneously. I definitely agree the the name is extremely dated.

    Birthday

All of the currently listed test subjects are due to become apprentices, and it appears the Neon__Lights and Clem are headed to the Erratic Portal. This mean we will need to promote TWO of our Acolytes to High Mages and TWO of our Apprentices to Acolytes. Everyone at the positions in question is nominated and everyone in the clan gets two votes for each election, including our soon-to-be Apprentices.

Once that's taken care of (Tentative end date is Sunday.) we can decide on the title for our next thread. Save your ideas for then as it will be hard enough to sort through if we start posting them now.

I made another top 16 finish guys...

I lost every game 1 on the day and won every game 3, and I didn't even pick up my second loss until round 8 to a deck with the same rares + Hoard-Smelter Dragon, as well as a second Oxidda Scrapmelter and two more Galvanic Blasts.

Nothing like missing top 8 on breakers; at least I net profited on the day. I'll take care of promotions after the sealed event today, hopefully I'll be on ggslive this time.

Hey guys I'm still alive; I've just kept myself busy elsewhere. I had a really good run in M11 limited, winning 4 out of 6 drafts (only winning the ones with 20+ players) with a variety of colors except white. In that format, Aether Adept was the best.

As for Scars of Mirrodin, I played white both times in sealed, with my first pool being a u/w metalcraft deck sporting a pair of Trinket Mages to fetch Darksteel Axe with which i won myself six packs, and my second pool being a mono-white deck sporting Elspeth Tirel, Tempered Steel, Ratchet Bomb, and Darksteel Juggernaut on top of the curve. Unfortunately this deck did not do as well, getting scrapmelted out of contention after my tempered steel was blown by Sylvok Replica. Next time I'll run the flyers I had cut for ground pounders.

As far as I'm concerned for the limited format, You need about 15 artifacts to reliably trigger metalcraft, which leaves very little room for colored cards. The best uncommons are Darksteel Axe and Oxidda Scrapmelter, with Skinrender, Slice in Twain, and Volition Reins playing second fiddle. White probably has the best commons to compensate for this however.

What are everyone's thoughts on standard? I really want to play Kuldotha Phoenix, and I think a U/R metalcraft deck would be the best home for it. So Far I'm thinking of running...

That's obviously too many cards for a deck, but I think there's some potential there to grind people out. It does seem to have trouble with mono green eldrazi however, So I'll probably need some Tunnel Ignus and extra aggression out of the sideboard to make it work.

It's been a while since I posted, but I have updated the first post a few times since. I hope everything is in order with it?

Anyways, I played in a PTQ yesterday with Turboland. I made it to 4-0 before screwing up and ended up at 5-3-1...

Of course I remember you C@meron.

Anyways, the first post has been somewhat updated. There are three people who need to decide whom they want to apprentice other, unless you really want to be assigned at random.

Surging Chaos, I am very curious as to what field you wish to be High Mage of. I also trust none of the new Acolytes mind their new positions?

I would also like to be added to the mafia list.

Anyways, in addition to all the other celebrating going on, I think it's time for some promotions. The following four people look like they should be apprentices right about now:

    28 - Skizzik_NZ
    28 - Zajnet
    29 -
    ArsenalFan
    29 - Zazirik

This means that one of our current Acolytes can be promoted to High Mage, and two of our current Apprentices can be promoted to Acolyte. No need for nominations, just vote for one in each rank.

After those are taken care of, our new apprentices can choose their fields, although if you want one that's currently open for yourself, now's the time to shotgun it.

Wait you are voting against your own card? I must say sir, that I am here to personally applaud your ability to actually follow the rules of the contest and vote based on the criteria, as opposed to favoritism and outside factors. Major Kudos to you joboman.

It's called a joke guys, much like I'm sure joboman's post was. Whoever felt the need to report this needs to go look at what red_0mega was doing in the Called's thread to see an example of what we don't want non-members posting here. kpaca is on our friends list "For obvious reasons" that should not need to be reiterated.

I used to say Limited was my favorite format by a mile, but I've grown to appreciate Constructed after my recent string of finishes in standard. I'll definitely draft for fun over anything else, but when I'm playing in a tournament, I'd rather play a constructed deck of my choosing than a sealed deck that I need to hope to get the nuts before I can draft with people I don't know who can easily hook me.

Goodbye Gargroyal, and have fun on your new forum. Lady Jaid'n has also been removed from the active member list, this time being sent into the erratic portal.

@Ophidian Eye: I'm wary to ad you to any list of test subjects yet, but you seem like you want to join. Do you?

Two things I noticed while looking over this thread and the last:

    1. It's time to promote Arew. Have fun with your new apprentice Ravus.

    2. Lady Jaid'N is headed for the portal. A PM is going out and she has until Sunday to respond.

You may return to your business.

bu, bu, bu, but! that just the logical answer! Slant

I guess...Smother or Doom Blade would do the trick...or Boomerang if WotC would reprint it in M11. They took out my 2 favorite bounces! that and Evac! Frown

To be fair, if your opponent is playing with cards from Guildpact, I don't think you need to restrict yourself to standard...

@Ravus: I'm sure you would be pleased if I were to join to the Church of Satan, but I personally despise any form of organized religion, no matter how non-conformist it is.

Zaz: Welcome back! I have many secret motives that shall be served by your return...
