    Protecting the animated Orchard.

A 2nd Forbidden Orchard will protect the animated one.
In response to a creature removal spell, tap the 2nd orchard to generate a token and untap the first orchard. Now make infinite mana with the creature kill on the stack. This will also work against Krosan Grip on Intruder Alarm.
But you will have to animate the Orchard before playing the Alarm.

Using Dryad Arbor in your deck + a Sac Land in play.
In response to a creature removal spell, sac the SacLand and search out Dryad Arbor. This will untap your Orchard and you can go infinite.

Are there any CPAs out there who know how to make it possible to tax deduct on money spent on Magic?

I may spend a couple thousand a year on Magic: buying cards, airfare, hotel, entrance fees. On occasion I would win some money. Hasbro sent me a tax form last year which I would have to claim that as income. Usually, my expenses far exceeds my income.

Is there any advantage of starting a Sole Proprietorship business for MTG Tourny playing? So that my expenses toward MTG would be counted as a business expense. Is this even legal? I know MTG spending can be considered a "Hobby Expense," but you can only deduct up to what you make. I bet that most people who sell MTG cards don't claim profits on income taxes.

    Any suggestions

Any tips on getting your significant-other involved in Magic?
I tried to teach my wife how to play when we started dating. She seemed interested at first. I did try the Duel Master game too as it seemed simpler than magic. But I think she just tried it just for me even though she didn't have much interest.

She used to play bridge. So now we are starting to play bridge online. I've pretty much given up on her playing magic anymore. Just accepting the fact that it's not her thing. I figure that I'll have my own hobbies (magic), and she will have her own hobbies (gardening, cooking). Then there will be a few hobbies we share (working out, bridge).

And as for clashing with family, not really, my parents don't care what I do as long as I maintain my GPA, and I never let Magic interrupt studying, or at least I don't anymore... Smile

I'm a doctor. I started playing magic during my first year of medical school. It wasn't too much at first. Primarily with my younger brother (8 years difference) during school holidays. During my 2nd year of med school, I discovered a play group at a local university and started playin 3-4 times a week. I managed to make it through med school with mediocre grades. My dad didn't approve too much of my playing. But I got my degree. During my residency I continued to play at a different local university. I managed to make it to 4 pro-tours during that time. It took a lot of schedule manipulation to be able to take time off for those pro-tours. At this time was probably the height of my magic career. I was playing 4-5 times a week. Had a great playtest group. I managed a 21st place at PT Rome (aka PT Academy). And I won the Midwest Regionals.
Since finishing training and moving again, I've been to a few more pro-tours. But I haven't been able to find a good playtest group. So I do know my game has slipped some. Now that I'm married. I can't playtest like I used to. My focus from magic has changed from a game of competition to a game of recreation. I still enjoy the competition. But I've decided never to play Magic just for the money, cuz it's just not worth it for me. Can't quit my day job to become a pro MTG player.

I'll start off. I've been playing magic since Fallen Empires. I used to be a regular tourny player reaching the Pro Tour on seven occasions. My last PT was PT Seattle 2004. I used to play MTG every weekend and frequently MTGO every night.

I recently got married in October 2004. Now my MTG playing has greatly diminished. Mostly, I'll play a few MTGO tourneys here and there.

At first, my wife couldn't understand why I played MTG so much. There were times where I would play MTGO, and she would feel neglected. Over the months, I've learned a few things. More recently, I've been able to play more MTGO and she would not be upset.

The key is to make her happy first. When she is happy, you can pretty much do what you want.

    Here is an example:
Last Sunday, I woke up early. I gave my wife a good morning kiss and told her I was going downstairs. My wife likes to sleep in on weekends. So I am able to play MTGO for a couple hours. When she wakes, I stop playing. We get dress and go out to eat at a place she was bugging me to go for the past week. After having pizza at Cosco, we went shopping. I bought her a pair of rollerblades and the protective gear. On the way home we stopped at Starbucks for coffee (she loves Starbucks). Then we stopped for some fresh strawberries at a strawberry patch. After getting home, my wife was happy and I was able to spend 3 hours just playing MTGO. She was happy, I was happy.

I am able to take a day off here and there to play real life magic. But then I would make time just for her the next day. It's a matter for finding the right balance.

    Hi all.
This thread is for discussing how you manage MTG in your life with other things going on such as marriage and a family. Some of the same principles can be applied to dating as well. I know that it isn't easy. Post your tips and share your experiences here.

<'m not sure if this thread belongs here, but I couldn't find an appropriate place. Suggestion?>>

Anyone can lose weight. The key is choosing the right lifestyle. The right lifestyle includes proper diet, exercise, and motivation. If you choose the lifestyle that supports an overweight lifestyle, you will be overweight. Look at Ryan from the Biggest Loser on TV. He lost 120 pounds in 6 months. All it took was proper diet, proper exercise, and proper motivation. He made a choice and changed his lifestyle for the better. People need to concentrate on changing their lifestyle first, then the weight will come off. Many people fail when they concentrate on the weight loss rather than working on the right lifestyle. Surgery is for last resort.

However, if you consume spirit yourself, you would not lose.
The Consume Spirit has to resolve in its entirety before state based effects are checked. So your life never actually gets to 0 because you would gain it back when the spell completely resolves.
