    Green appears to have the most robust ability to get PWers out of GY, white and white / black have some "permanent" reanimation effects too. I'm trying to come up with some ways to recur PWers in monoblack that don't suck, so I am hunting for tech.

    Anybody have any tech in this space?

    Assassin: randomly assign a target to start the game, first target dead yields a win for the holder.

    Star is another one I like to play.

    Last man standing FFAs took too long, so we tried to speed things up.

    We know it'll be assassin or star but not who the targets are. The generals are shuffled together then dealt out for seats (star) or single targets (assassin). Sure you could show up with Rafiq/Skittles and improve your odds of killing 1-2 people quickly in a vacuum but that's maybe two sessions of roflstomping people before the spot removal (which is imminently useful anyway) gets prohibitive to that deck.

    Part of the rules change is driven by a desire to avoid keeping someone idle because a game stalled or just happened to run long, so there's sort of a gentlemen's agreement here to not exploit the gaps created by the solution to the original problem.

    EDIT: I play with a sophisticated/mature playgroup that knows each other and has a vested interest in preserving the health of the group, may not work amongst strangers.

    Not sure if you're addressing my rule sets but those are for the entire game, not ways to wrap up the game once someone gets eliminated. By re-structuring the game so it is not "last person standing" the first man out gets stranded for 2 hours situation can be prevented.

    Make sense?

    We had this problem early on, here's how we fixed it.

    Reconfigure the rules rather than shorten:
    1. Assassin - assign a target to each player, game ends when a target dies
    2. Star - assassin with 2 targets
    3. Player Kill Scoring - When a player dies, they start over with X lands where X = the min/average/max of surviving players, draws 5 cards, resets commander tax -> play until someone racks up N kills

    #3 is easy to optimize for if the group is semi-competitive so you'll have to tune it carefully for your group, this is why we abandoned it for #1 and #2, #1 is our favorite because even Star stalls out. I also like #1 and #2 because it creates politics that transcend out of game bonds, e.g. normally I might soft-play my brothers but assassin and star can force me to target them if they are my assignments.

    You're in the colors best suited to dictate what stays on the board and what doesn't. Enchantments are, IME, under defended against too.

    White has at least one counterspell and rule of law and taxing, red has elemental blasts to take out blue combo pieces, black has library exile and discard so while you won't have the same level of combo defense as a blue deck you should be able to put up a fight. Both red and white can stop opponents from searching libraries too, more anti-combo defense.

    A legendary creature that had the goblin welder ability for both permanent types would be a lot of fun.

    Karlov is great, love the design. If Daxos was ETB instead of cast I think he'd be my favorite of the bunch. I can work with cast, it's just not as strong.

    Kalemne has potential, IMO.

    BG is really tempting, I may have to consider playing G now.

    Obliterate and/or Decree of Annihilation and/or johulhaups ignore Pwers and enchantments, blow up everything else.

    meishin, mind cage
    ensnaring bridge
    moat
    protect PWers, although winning around those may be a challenge, IIRC only Jace and Ob Nix have reliable non-creature ways to kill opponents (not a PWer expert though).

    I think people are sleeping on Kalemne.

    3/3 double strike for 4 mana in two colors well-positioned to voltron seems solid to me. Is it tier 1, tourney winning stuff? Probably not, but it's got my juices flowing.
