Sweet removal. One advantage of this card over conventional removal is that it copies itself and makes a separate spell (if you get to activate morbid) against counter based decks running creatures AKA delver the opponent has to counter both spells if he doesn't want to have an empty board, this is a definite auto 3-4 off in decks that can definitely activate its Morbid. It seems LotV still has runs to make on black based decks.

Are people seriously saying that Dig Through Time is better than Sphinx's Revelation more than maybe 5% of the time? Who was actually regularly casting their Sphinx's before turn 7 or 8? Because, SPOILER ALERT, you're doing it wrong. Dig is quite powerful, but you get two cards out of the top seven. Without Delve, the card would be utterly unplayable. And are we honestly going to go down the road again of underestimating the power of Sphinx's life gain clause?

Again, there's no doubt about Dig's power level. But it's nowhere near as powerful as Sphinx's 95% of the time.

I think that Sphinx's Revelation is powerful in its own way, and there is no way that you can compare the roles of Dig Through Time and Sphinx since they both do 2 separate things for the deck. The only advantage this has over Sphinx is its a blue spell thus can be played in any deck than needs this with blue and not necessarily while Sphinx needs to be played in a deck with U and W. Another is that unlike Sphinx this can be played on turns 4-5 (with fetches and playing spells) while Sphinx is useless on those turns unless you really need the life. Lastly, this is Quality over Quantity, unlike sphinx which will probably be played with X = 5 or 6 or even less on the same turns as this, not all of those cards are relevant or will be useful to you while Dig through Time gives you 2 quality cards. Although this does not make Sphinx any weaker, the lifegain is a huge blowout against aggro and midrange decks especially when games extend as far as turns 7 onwards (which is a norm for control decks), this is where Sphinx trully shines unlike Dig through Time.

These are two different cards which does very different things, Dig through Time cannot replace Sphinx Revs role in old lists, but that doesn't mean that it won't be played.

Definitely the Blue Chase Rare in the set, it is currently sold out at $0.50 on SCG and if my predictions is correct it should be worth probably around $5-$10 ea once KTk hits the shelves. Delving for this is not too hard especially with fetches in the format, this can be played on turn 4 or 5 on the latest. This is a definite must for any control deck. Not sure if this is the right card for mid range but Esper, UW and UB will definitely play this.

I believe that had a lot more to do with the Hidden Treasure aspect of Zendikar over the fetchlands. Once it become a known thing, people started buying it in droves not for fetchlans, which were nice to have, but instead for Alpha/Beta/Unlimited good stuff possibilities. Remember, also, that Wizards prints their product in huge supply now, particularly compared to back then. The player base has absolutely surged since Innistrad, and more importantly RtR, and Wizards will print a metric ton more product to meet this demand.

I can't imagine supply will be short for anyone compared to Zendikar, and the set was underprinted with Wizards not anticipating such massive demand. This is not the case this go around; Wizards knows the game now, and knows how popular a set with Fetchlands *and* Wedges will be with consumers. I have no doubt at all that no shortage will exist. It's a completely different circumstance as compared to Zendikar. Zendikar happened simultaneously with a player surge, whereas Khans is on the tail end of the most recent surge. Zendikar was underprinted compared to demand, while Khans is likely to be overprinted to meet the demand of an already surged base.

Supply will just be massive for all things Khans, and the market will be flooded with Fetchlands.

In two years time when Khans is out of print, not being drafted, and not being redeemed? That'll be the time to buy boxes and the like. Now, with it in print? Meh. The idea that Fetchlands demand a higher price for a box is ludicrous. Supply will not be a problem like it was in Zendikar, and the cost from Distributors won't increase. By December everyone whos is going hog-wild and knee-jerky on it will feeling awfully silly.

Yeah, but I remember that was only for the first printing of Zendikar. But I think the price will still be high in the first 2 months, also take note back then there was no Modern format sharing in on the demand for fetchlands. Also back then, SCG was not a major contender in prices as it was today. With SCG jacking up the prices and hoarding in the cards, fetchlands will surely not drop in prices to the way we expect them to be. Since a lot of people will be needing the fetches, surely not many people will wait for December for them to drop when they need it now.

Sorry for being a bit pessimistic, but I am just not getting my hopes up for cheaper than normal fetchlands. But oh well, hoping that WotC supplies in more boxes, there will surely be surge of players ordering boxes here and there.

The cardboard crack comic is the truth, and if you don't feel like that, you should. Srs. I picked up some KTK fetches on the pre-order. Polluted Delta is already sold out at 24.99.

Yeah, it's exciting, but those are still a bit too rich for me. I want some Polluted Deltas, but for $100 I'll take me chances on a box. Besides, I have a feeling these fetch lands are going to do the same thing the Shock lands did in Theros, they're preordering high due to the hype, but as soon as the set drops, everyone is going to sell off all of their extras that they open, and in a few weeks, these will be less that $10 a piece.

So I'll just wait for now.

Pretty much. By December I imagine they'll run 10-15$ a piece. Oddly enough, I think that while in Standard the green ones will be more expensive than the blue ones, as Courser of Kruphix is one of the best cards currently in the format, and will remain so due to it's interaction with fetches. Couple that with the best mana fixing in the format with Caryatid as well, and green is going to be everywhere. Strange to think, really.

Yeah they may drop to that price but we'll have to see. Based on my experience back when Zendikar was released, in 1 month time LGS has run out of supply of boxes to the point that LGS or players who have hoarded boxes were selling booster packs at a higher prices than MSRP. With the lack of supply prices of fetchlands rised to unexpected levels, that was till WotC printed more boxes to answer the increase in supply. I'm not sure if that will happen here but with the demand from standard to Modern running high this will definitely be the case. I expect that they will be around $20-$25 be its peak or maybe higher in the 1st 2 months, then once everyone gets their supply of fetchlands they might drop to $15-$20. That is if there will no be no short supply in boxes, certainly several players and LGS will be hoarding boxes and keeping them for a few years sealed as such to drive up the value. If this trend happens again in KTK I foresee that fetches will not drop in prices but become much more expensive as time goes by.

On another note, Courser of Kruphix is now Out of Stock in SCG, and i predict it will still go higher than before, good think I kept 3pcs and I might play GW in the coming standard.

Yup. I checked SCG's stock of Coursers at about 2AM EST just after the fetches were spoiled and they had 33 in stock at $12. Someone or some people bought them all out overnight while I was sleeping and not losing my mind trying to buy up all of the Coursers as a speculation target. I'm not sure how much the Courser will stand to gain, but I'll definitely keep an eye on them while I use my single copy for EDH. Good thing I don't play standard or modern, I dunno how I'd pay my bills. I miss the days of $5 ABUR duals.

Yeah they reopened at $15, and it seems that it won't stop there anytime soon. In TCG Player has it at $18 in Mid, I won't be surprised if the clash packs runs out over at my LGS at the current rate of things. Yeah I definitely miss the good old days of cheap cards, now they just keep on increasing to the point MTG is no longer a causal hobby even for students but need an active Job to buy and play MTG. Anyways, back on topic I think Courser is the only obvious card that will benefit from the printing of Fetches, currently trying to check out a list of current standard cards that might make be relevant in the current next season before it jumps in price.

Third, to all the people talking about how these aren't particularly great for Standard or have anti-synergy with scrylands, I beg to differ. If you remember ZEN-SOM Standard, the fetches were pretty useful. We had the fastlands and checklands to pair them with. Yes, they helped the checklands etb untapped, but they still only found basic lands. Personally I feel like they have better synergy with the current lands, because:
    • The scry lands do push stuff to the bottom, but late game you may want to shuffle things up. Say you had to push Elspeth down because you need lands and only had 2 in your deck. I'd be glad I can shuffle up and get another chance to draw her.
    • Since we're working with painlands now, fetches can really help avoid taking too much damage over time by finding the color you need to avoid pinging yourself.
    • This may only help a subset of decks, but having Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth in Standard enables shenanigans with fetches since they can produce mana.

Fourth, there are actually some nice synergies with running more basics in Standard right now, which has been a non-basic orgy over the past several blocks. Burnished Hart and Nissa's Expedition could represent some awesome ramping opportunity for decks running more basics.

The real tragedy in my mind is that Deathrite Shaman is rotating, likely salivating at the thought of all those delicious fetchlands in the yard. Oh well, probably best for Mono B not to have the ability to ramp. Smile

I don't understand either why people think Fetch lands are not great in standard. I played in the Zen Block and fetches at that time were an auto include in almost every Standard deck I see. Heck I see a pretty good synergy between Fetchland and Courser to Kruphix and that alone will make it viable in standard for green decks. in all actuality I'm tempted to play standard just because there is fetchlands, well it worked back in Zendikar, so why not in KTK as well.

On another note, Courser of Kruphix is now Out of Stock in SCG, and i predict it will still go higher than before, good think I kept 3pcs and I might play GW in the coming standard.

I have a feeling Courser of Kruphix value will go up. It's undeniable synergy with fetches (which has been demonstrated in Modern) is also now available in standard makes it a whole lot better. For those who don't know how that works, imagine a scenario where you have a courser in play and by chance you don't like the top card of your deck revealed by Courser, since you have a fetch land in hand or play you can just crack a fetch and effectively change your top deck. Another obvious synergy is that Courser negate the loss of life in cracking a fetch, but I think you all know that by now.

Anyway, Yey for 1,000 posts!!! bunny

Just noticed this card, I was going to dismiss it as another lame token producer till I read the "each upkeep" clause in the text which allows thw player to produce token each upkeep. With pain lands and mana confluence in standard this is easily a fun card to play with.

Diffusion Sliver is awesome. While it is not hexproof, it is still 2 mana.

Just the card Modern Slivers need to become possibly competitive level. If Legacy has Crystalline Slivers, Modern will need Diffusion Sliver for protection.

My expression went Gaping while reading the Chain Veil. The first card to interact with planeswalker abilities and its pretty good, of not a bit overcosted for any format except EDH and Standard. Now I know why Liliana of the Veil was a pretty strong card. On the Ogre, Rings of Brightheart on a creature is good for me, it swings and doubles artifact abilities is pretty nifty.

Edit: Wait the Ogre is a legend, now thats a definite EDH that I can build around.

Wow, first Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and now this. Gotta say that this is the best Core Set yet, lots of good reprints and value cards. I'm not quite sure how this will impact standard though, the cost is pretty steep with GGG in the cost, but with elvish mystic and sylvan caryatid in the current standard I would say that this could probably warp the current meta to aggro based decks, and this for silver bullets.

  • posted a message on [[M15]] New Ajani Spoiled via Twitter
The design on the new Ajani is pretty interesting, his +1 makes any creature into a Baneslayer (with vigilance replacing flying). The -2 can be good in a token deck or Planeswalker Deck, although we already had proliferate in the past, but giving loyalty counters from a planeswalker is a very different matter altogether. As for the ultimate, having an auto Forcefield on all types of damage to you or your walker is very hard to gauge, it won't win you the game but you won't lose the game from large beaters.

As for the "It can't protect itself" test it loses on many accounts, since this Ajani works ONLY with other creatures and/or walkers thus it needs a specific board state to fully utilize him. But once it is in that board state it can further certain game plans to your advantage like putting a certain walker nearer to his/her ultimate ability or even make your army of creatures better or even a single creature much more relevant (First Strike, Vigilance and Lifelink is still pretty good). This doesn't make it necessarily good, but it is not bad either since he adds a new dimension of play which was never available before.

This doesn't need confirmation. With Big Garruk as a promotional card, I don't see any reason for them NOT to make a BG garruk in the Core set. But for those who have doubts, here is the proof that there would be a multicolored walker in the M15.
