He's playing basically mono-blue, with a small red and black splash. You'll see why...
G1: I win the roll and keep five Swamps, a Chosen, and a Gorgon. I draw lots more lands as he lands a couple dorks, including putting Aqueous Form on an Omenspeaker. He then lands Master of Waves (!), but I have a Pharika's Cure. I then land my Gorgon and stall the ground. He's still dinking me for 1 a turn, but then I land a Sentry with an Emissary attached, and kill him three turns later (Gorgon montrofies to take out a flying blocker). 1-0
SB: Bring in Last breath and Ephara's Warden, since he has lots of dorks. Take out Bronze Sable and Felhide, since they are bad against his dorks.
G2: He plays first, and I keep 3 Swamps, a Plains, Insatiable, Emissary, and Read. He drops a Hart, and I draw and play Bloodtoll. He elects to sac rather than trade, and I land Insatiable. He basically never stops my attacks from then on. However, he did play Thassa! Yeah, I know, Master and Thassa in the same deck! He never kept a creature long enough for her to be useful as more than a draw fixer, however. He also misplayed this game by missing his chance to kill my Insatiable Harpy with his Crackling Triton when I played the Spear, killing Bloodtoll instead. It ended up not mattering since he had a Lightning Strike for the Harpy and my lifetotal was irrelevant. In the end I killed him by sticking the Emissary on Tormented Hero and discarding Hopeful Eidolon to drop him from 8 to -1. 2-0, and good game to him!
Courser is perfect, but Lion is more perfect if I indeed splash white. Counting up what I have, there is still a chance I will need to splash, and I would be getting some pretty powerful stuff doing so... screw it, Fleecemane Lion!
Oh, I so want to take that Mender, but it's yet another five drop. Then again, the only other option would be a Wanderer or Steed, neither of which are very appealing. I guess I'll take a second Pharika's Mender.
Jeez, can I really pass Xenagos? Then again, I badly need that satyr. Were it real life, I'd take the walker without question, but here I guess I'll take the Voyaging Satyr. Man, this sucks.
Well, I can honestly say I didn't expect to make such a heavy switch into black, and I probably messed up everyone at the table by doing so :P. Anyway, I expect to get cut heavily in black this pack as whoever was drafting black before is now passing to me, but hopefully I can pick up another good black card or two as well as some more quality green to finish the deck off. I'm looking back and seeing that I'm probably going to have to splash white just to get enough playables, actually. That's a little worrisome.
What a bad curve. Prioritize low drops, especially if I see a Voyaging Satyr or Unicorn or something.
