Hey! So I just opened up my first and only pack of Mercadian Masques and I didn't receive a regular rare. I did receive a foil card (Horn of Ramos), does the foil replace the rare? I got the pack at a GP from the prize wall, so it's the first time I've had the chance to open this set.

Standard cards go super fast. It took a whole lot of trying to get rid of 2 gideons, and I still can't move my drana.

I hear you. I was trying to the exact same thing. I ended up having to send them to Australia to two different users because those were the first ones that popped up after trying to get rid of them since prerelease.

  • posted a message on Card Kingdom Discussion Thread
    Hi everyone,
Just wanted to post my latest experience with Card Kingdom's grading of foil cards, and in one case, a card that I believed to be a fake. I'm sharing my experience so that anyone thinking of buying with CK can have a bit more information while searching for options. I know that this thread is filled with praises for CK, and this post will stick out like a sore thumb; but I think that it is also important to hear about the good, as well as the bad. Unfortunately, this is the latter.

It might get lengthy, so I'll include a TL:DR at the end.

As a bit of background. I've been purchasing from Card Kingdom since 2009 with close to 2,500$ worth of singles. This wasn't the only company that I have purchased from, but it was one of my favorites. That is, until last July, when I had an issue with an order that I placed, followed up with this issue that I'm about to go into. In the past I've urged friends to use the site, and have never regretted it. However, there seems to be a recent shift in grading, and it's left me with a lot to be desired.

I purchased about 100 dollars worth of singles during CK's "Tenless" promotion (10% discount of singles). I ordered a bunch of singles that I have been looking for and was happy to finally get this singles.

When I finally received the package, I noticed that 10 out of the 14 cards were not correctely graded. 8 of those I bought as NM, while the other two I bought their tier right under, which CK marks as Excellent. This is including one of the cards (Tawnos's Coffin) to be a fake.
My first course of action was to inspect the Coffin, it was glossy, like a playing card. I brought it to 2 different LGS, I didn't mention CK or that I thought it was fake. But instead just asked them to grade the card for me as I was potentially looking to sell it. The first shop inspected it for 20 minutes, and kept going back and forth on the card stating that something felt off. Finally, they said that they wouldn't accept the card as they had doubts of their legitimacy; they offered to keep in on hold for a day so that they could inspect a card using their normal method while buying singles (this is a small store that is run by an old man). I declined as my main goal was the get another opinion and wasn't looking to sell this card to the store. I want it for playing. The other LGS took it to was a big online retailer in Canada. The person across the counter immediately dismissed the card as a fake.

I went home, wrote CK an email and included all the pictures I could about the quality of the cards. I also included my concern about the Tawnos's Coffin. I quickly received an email where they offered to inspect the cards.
Here were my notes in the email, accompanied by the images:
Cultural Exchange should be EX and is VG Djinn Illuminatus should be EX and is VG Overgrowth: should be EX, is VG- borderline G Mayael the Anima should be NM is EX- Overlaid Terrain should be NM and is VG Sunbound has some nicks and isn't NM Time of Need has scratches Grimoire Thief is so bad, should be NM and is VG

I got word back today, that all the cards I thought were inappropriately graded were actually, according to Cardkingdom, were the correct grade. So the cards that you are viewing, according to CK, are their version of NM. Also, the Tawnos Coffin was confirmed to be a real card, which is concerning since 2 other shops said otherwise. But whatever, older cards have varying print-runs.
They offered to refund the amount I paid for the cards, and have since done so; however, the amount is different than what I calculated, I asked them about it, and their response is "go look at your transaction history." Helpful. At this point I probably won't be purchasing from them again and anyone thinking so in the future should be aware of what appears to be a looser grading system than what they previously employed which is disappointing.
TL:DR; cards I got from Cardkingdom were no where close to NM. Their grading system has gotten looser, be weary of buying foils expecting good quality cards.

I went to a USPS office today and asked the guy being the counter what options were there for tracking available to Japan. After going through the options, we took First Class Registered that came up to 28.84 (I'm shipping 25 fetchlands to a guy). When I get home and check on the tracking number, I get this "USPS Tracking is unavailable for this product for JAPAN." So I'm guessing that I'm not going to be able to track my cards now. Isn't this something that the clerk should have told me?

Something horrible has happened to me at Puca Trade. Here's the story:

I was having a bad day, yesterday, & I cursed out another member for whatever reason (makes no difference here). He complained. I was given no warning, no x-day/week/month restriction from use. Instead, my account was straight out terminated.

I think we all need to remember is that when you are messaging someone, on any website, that you are talking to a human being. Cussing, while relieving, isn't a great form of communication and can have harmful and long lasting effects. I'll cut the Sunday school special there. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter whether a bad day was had or not. We need to be more mindful of how we treat others, and hold ourselves accountable for the actions we take.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost all those points.

Where do we post rumored card names? Apparently, the latest Uncharted Realms had 'issues' when first posted, so instead of the images there were what appeared to be card names in brackets.

You can do that here I'm very curious. I didn't see that.

Apparently, Gideon, Ally of Zendikar was one of the card names spoiled.

Since we're on the topic of MSRP. I noticed that one of the shops in Montreal has pre-orders at 120 dollars (holy cow!). I'm not sure who will be buying this at those prices. Usually all the shops fall in line at around the same price give or take 10 dollars. I know that they all call each other to find out what they are pricing it at.

Name me any one legendary that has been reprinted in a none-core, none-time spiral block set?
Oh right, that never happened. They only do one on one reprints of legendaries in supplemental products.

    Mindslaver - Scars of Mirrodin.

Using the past to justify the future isn't the way to go about it. We're going into new territory where Wizards doesn't have a core set to reprint legendary creatures that could be legal in standard. Sure they could use a functional reprint and not end up reprinting Linvala at some point in the future. But to act like it's a foregone conclusion that Linvala won't get reprinted (not saying I agree that she will) is erroneous.

Yeah I've noticed this as well. I'm keeping an eye on the lists and there do seem to be people sending them as I'm seeing some names rotate in and out. Demand will remain high unless there is a sudden spike where it gets to the point that everyone holding on to them will jump ship.

There's a big difference in terms of making EDH-only P3K cards more available and making Vintage/Legacy staple cards more available.

Wait, why would reprinting Legacy staples be a bad thing?

Reprinting is not a bad thing. Reprinting to crash prices is a bad thing (for WOTC). Look at how careful they are about Tarmogoyf.

There's an article from the Mothership (and I cannot remember who wrote it, or when - you get to Google it if you want) that says that they basically have a "reprint budget" for each product, and that cards are measured in terms of awesomeness. So in order to reprint something like Wasteland in a product that's sold to the public, they'd have to basically include nothing else that anyone would want. They also have to save some specialness for the judges, to reward them for being judges. Wasteland judge foils mean a lot less when Johnny Combo can rip the same card from an in-print booster.

Again, I'm NOT SAYING that reprinting Legacy cards is bad. It is not bad. I am saying that WOTC is more careful with how they reprint high-value Legacy staples than they are with reprinting high-value cards that are only expensive due to rarity.

Are you sure that that was an official article from Wizards? I know I read an article on this subject: http://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/how-wizards-manages-its-savings-account

Interesting, I've seen people say baneslayer a few times, but I don't see it matching with that art. I'm still going with Crypt Angel.
