    Hi all,
Used to play magic back in the days of 4th edition or so...so wish I knew where my cards went, but now I'm back.

I'm going to be casualish...so my plan is to do mostly edh casually with drafts and sealed leagues to build collection..trade for edh stuff etc...

With that said I have a few questions for my first upcoming draft.

    1) the LGS I'm playing at charges 10 dollars for the draft, 3 guaranteed matches with a guaranteed of walking away with at least 1 extra pack...not sure what best record gets. This sounds like a good draft to do to me...pretty good format?

    2) I know in drafts you build decks around commons and uncommons so you should pass on some of the Rares that don't really fit...however since I'm also doing this to build a collection...does it make sense to say take a crap rare over a card you'd sideboard and don't ever see playing? Or what about a rare multi color land on say pick 3 or 4 over a card that may fit in your deck? Ideally I'd like to walk away with as many Rares as possible without hurting my chances of winning more cards too bad since I'm sure being new I probably don't stand much chance anyways..

    3) any other tips appreciated

Hi all, I used to play paper magic back in the day in middle and high school, and played mtgo in college. Years later I want to get back into paper magic. I of course have no idea where my former collection winded up so I'm starting fresh.

To start with I have a full time job with a wife and 2 kids so I'll only be able to play casually, so I don't want to invest too heavily into it, at least not at first.

My current plan is to try to build 1 or maybe 2 decks in each format (standard, modern, legacy and edh) with priority to all but legacy.

I will be on the lookout for people selling collections on my price range on craigs list to maybe get some bulk cards at a value, but I think I plan on doing drafts and sealed tourneys to build up my collection, on top of purchasing any needed singles. Does this sound like the best route?

Also any standard or edh decks you'd recommend that are good but not necessarily hurting the bank. It doesn't have to be super competitive but hopefully able to win some. I like the idea of bg elves, bw enchants, and ur spells. Back in the day I loved ub control decks but from my understanding it isn't great in standard.

I already have a plan for my modern deck

Oh, I was just on a random website when I googled rdw to find out what it was and I was able to find a lot of "RDW" decks. They all seemed to run Kargan Dragonlord.

Others included goblin guide, ball lightning, and the devestating summons/bushwacker combo.

Maybe I'll search around for other RDW Deck lists Smile

It can work with 2 mans, depending on what the pack they're giving out resells for. You pay 2 tics to enter a 2 man, and win a pack. If the pack is worth 4 tics, you're golden as long as you go 50%. If the packs aren't, then you need to do pretty well.

For pauper, I'd build goblins, teachings, or storm if you want to grind 2 man queues. Storm and Teachings are harder to play, but better decks in my opinion. Goblins is definitely tier 1, and much easier to play. Teachings is the one you're least likely to get bored of. All three should be able to net positive if you're a good player.

As far as grinding standard... if you buy jund, just give yourself a buffer between when alara rotates and when you flip the deck.

If you want a cheaper deck to grind out standard, try RDW. It beats a lot of current decks, and survives rotation. It loses pretty hard to jund, but you should still net positive as long as people are playing decks with Jace.

    Cool thanks.

In regards to Pauper..what about a burn deck? I'm not very good at playing ub, and I have yet to find a storm deck that is consistant (since it depends HEAVILY on combos). Goblins are cool too and very consistant so I might try that as you suggested.

RDW looks real cool. To try and miniize the cost, do you think I need the sac lands? I understand it helps my draw out later, and if I were to run plated geopede (I wouldn't for sure if I skipped these) it boosts him too, but they would also cost me about a months budget for a playset each.

I already have all the commons needed for RDW, would just have to be patient saving up for the cards and try and find some real good bargains in the trade section/auction room. The only card that really frightens me is Kargan Dragonlord. He looks like a beast, but its also very expensive(to me). Is he a must play as well?

Hi guys, not exactly sure what forum this belongs in, so I'm sorry if I put this in the wrong one. It might need to go in the Pauper one, since part of it has to do with Pauper.

Anyways, I'm relatively new (again) and I'm on a very limited budget (15, SOMETIMES 30 a month max). For this reason I play pauper. However, like everyone, I love drafting (although I've not done it enough to probabyl be good at it) and I love the idea of playing infinite.

I am not trying to say I think I can do it, I'd like to though and want to try, or atleast come as close to it as I can and I know that drafting isn't the way to do it, its more in constructed.

Well, right now I only have pauper decks. Is it possible to do this this way? I only see 2 people game tournaments, and I'm not sure what the prize is for that, but either way it's not a very big pay out (what I mean by that is I don't think i've ever seen a 8 person pauper tournament fill).

My other option would be to buy and build a cheap standard deck that can win. I'm ok with doing this, I could use my budget to slowly build a standard deck..and I can increase my budget a little as I'm decent at flipping commons (finding terminates/rite of flames etc on bulk bots). But either way from the look at a lot of the decks winning tourneys I would be VERY far from doing it.

I have heard Jund decks are somewhat cheap and can do well, is there any truth to this? And if so/not what other decks woudl you recommend.

Summary..low budget looking to fund a draft every now and then...try and save for a constructed standard deck? Or can it work with Pauper?

Hello, I used to play a while ago.. I believe Legion was the newest set at the time I left. Unfortunately, I sold all my valuable cards and found someone new to mtg to give my commons etc.

I have read by starting a new account, you get a starter pack. I already have an account, although it's empty. would I be better off keeping my old one or creating a new one?

Also, I can afford 15-30 bucks a month, and I enjoy making a lot of fun decks..and of course drafting/tourneys. I like the Idea of doing pauper tourneys as they are cheaper. But I want to eventually get into a lot of other things.

What would you recommend me doing? buying 15-30 tix and then go shopping? go to mtgo traders (or any other one similar) and just buy a bunch there?

I haven't looked too much into the newer cards, but if this helps back then I loved playing blue/black control, and I had a really cool black/green sacrifice deck (these are obviously not pauper..I've read that white weeenie is a good pauper deck).
