Referring to the link. Laughing while reading it. Looks like satire.

Would Lantern people actually do this sort of thing... I mean, willing to suffer great mental exhaustion... assuming it has to be done with almost all opponents. - just to win a few packs at FNM?

I thought the same but I have to wonder. There are people who will attempt to eek out any advantage at all, whatever the spirit, to try and gain an advantage to win. I'm reminded of a particular poster/thread asking questions in the same vein. The questions posted were clearly someone trying to find some kind of foothold on a technicality in order to beat their opponent. Every pro sport I can think of have a history of people doing the same, Magic is no different.

My mistake.. it's not satire at all. Took a peek at the Lantern thread. It's a strategy recently written by someone there. https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/tier-2-modern/221769-lantern-control?comment=9125

Anyway, I still think it's not a good strategy... it's too tiring to do over and over in a large event. Would probably work in very small FNM's, and even there I feel it's not worth the effort... better to just play normally and have fun than do something like this.

What are people's thoughts on Chalice of the Void? I just came back from a hiatus and saw it's climbed to $77. I originally got it for brewing with UB Tezzeret (which benefits disproportionately from Jace, IMO), but I'm not really big on the deck at the moment and having a $300 playset of a card I never use and is a likely reprint target is making me anxious.

I also have no real plans to build Eldrazi or... does anything else run that card at the moment?

Edit Oh right, Free Win Red. Considered that one for a while but I don't really like piloting prison decks.

Sell them... if you don't have any plans to use them in any of your decks.. sell them. That's what I recently did with all my unused expensive cards that I feel have maxed out on prices.. Mox Opal, Scalding Tarn, Azusa, Ravager.. and many others. You will end up with money to buy what you want / need for future deck building.

Thank you both for the explanations. Smile

I actually print screen the answers almost everytime I ask here. Then print it on short bond paper - and compile them together. Always brought when I go to FNM. My friends always believe things said here on Salvation card rulings area. Kekeke

Have to agree with Fincown. It's better to have at least one Wrath of God in the main. In case opponent has meddling mages. I used to have 3 verdict... but recently changed to two verdict and 1 wrath split. Although they are few... there are also annoying things in modern that can regenerate.. Ezuri, Experiment One, and Thrun - wrath gets rid of them just fine.

Hi, have just put together my ponza deck on paper that uses moons. And since, this is the first time I would be using Blood Moon. Have a few questions about it. Smile

    1. If moon is in play, and I put a Stomping Ground into the battlefield. Do I still have pay 2 life for the Stomping ground to enter the battlefield untapped?

    2. Moon is in play, can the opponent destroy my Stomping Ground with a Fulminator Mage? Is the Stomping Ground still considered a non-basic land?

    3. One of my Stomping ground is enchanted by spreading seas. I cast a Blood Moon. Would the stomping ground enchanted by the seas become a mountain again, no longer an island?

Hi, just one question about this card. Can it exile creatures with persist or undying? For example, I use Red Sun's Zenith to deal lethal damage to a kitchen finks without a -1/-1 counter on it. Would the finks persist or would it be exiled by red sun?

I suggest you try Pulse of Murasa as well for the lifegain. Getting back a creature helps, and could win the game in certain situations... for example.. get back the leatherback baloth that the Burn player worked hard to kill. I stopped using feed the clans after testing pulse. Even if they skullcrack it, you still get a guy back from the yard.

Definitely going to try one of those as well, though the cost is a bit steep. Maybe one per?

If you are using the 21-22 land build of Stompy.. then 3 mana should be ok. Well, you can test it as a one-of to start. Another use I have found for it is that it can help bring back a creature, so that Rhonas can attack / block.

All I had for lifegain was Feed the Clan but I'll definitely be sideboarding at least 2x Life Goes On for Burn matchups because good lord was that brutal.

@TheAller welcome to Ponza! Your list looks like a great value midrange list! The only thing i would recommended trying is molten rain instead of beast within in the main. Giving them a 3/3 really turns off BBE's 3/2 haste body so at max its a 1 for 1 cascading into Beast Within. I also think going below 6 MB targeted LD spells is inconsistent so Molten Rain would be the closest swap. I would try to sneak a Chandra in the main too, but your type of list might not want that?

    Great list though! Happy hunting!

I really like my 2x Beast Within. I started with 4 to be honest (you know, new to the archetype) then I realized they're just plain bad in multiples. However I really like it as 2x. This for a few reasons:

Have to agree with the Beast Within comment. Also have 2 in the main, it's an answer to many things. Beast Within a Goyf, Tasigur, Angler, Rhino.. to make it smaller. A 3/3 beast is often less dangerous than a planeswalker, beast my own land for a surprise blocker / another body to end the game with. Well,, and I do admit that there are situations where I use it on opponent's land - and I take a few hits from the 3/3 afterwards.. but that's just part of the risks with such a versatile card.

As for Tireless Tracker... card is just amazing. It looks pretty harmless, but it can help win games.

Hey folks, buy your Jund staples now or forever hold your peace. I sold off my Goyfs a little after MM17's release and just re-bought a set before it $60, however, the same applies to Bob, Lilly, etc. Even if BBE Jund doesn't wow the meta, I'd expect the aforementioned cards to retain much of their value once they rise. On a similar note, now is the time to pick up any 3cmc or less cards you've had your eye on that have a remote possibility of being put into a BBE list; I wanted to build a BBE Ponza list w/ Domri Rade and I noticed that foils are drying up rather quick.

Hmm, so goyf is slowly trying to climb. Obviously affected by the BBE unban... from 50-55 dollar low at SCG, the M17 version is now going 60 again. However, with another Masters set about to be spoiled... I'm really hesitant to buy anything expensive right now. For example, I sold an azusa for 50 dollars to someone, just a few weeks before Master 25 started to get spoiled - did not talk to the azusa buyer on facebook again. **

For some reason I just want to see Absolute Grace get reprinted into modern. It's never going to happen, but just thinking about the impact that would have is epic. Oh Urza's Saga, you're broken nature knows no limits...

Holy smokes would I kill for a Flametongue Kavu reprint, though. Finally got a taste of that card again with the desert specific version that got printed along with Glorybringer. Terravore would probably slot into knight fall style deck lists.

Absolute Grace as sideboard against GDS decks? ^__^

They printed the Kavu several times, even gave it new art... but never in core set. And sadly, they gave us Magnivore in a core set instead of the Terravore. I think Terravore isn't really overpowered for Modern, it's vulnerable to many of the popular removal and a relic of progenitus cleaning up both yards will kill it.

Sundering Growth only copies tokens. Natural State costs 1 less mana and for big artifacts/enchantments (or vial on 1) Deglamer/Unravel the Aether have the benefit of also tucking cards that give us problems either in the graveyard or on their way to the graveyard (e.g., Wurmcoil Engine).

I prefer tuck effects like Deglamer.. because Lantern decks sometimes use Welding Jar to regenerate their Ensnaring Bridge.. and there are also those who recur bridge with Academy ruins - it's really annoying once they get that kind of thing going, deglamer helps get out of that situation.

I'm pissed that I missed out on a foil dreadbore foil for a few dollars. I didn't buy it because I didn't want to spend 2 dollars on shipping. Ugh

The prices are absolutely disgusting right now, K-Command, Collective Brutality and Blackcleave are skyrocketing

    Blue staples are as well

I want to play Blue on MTGO but that's getting to be too much, too

I honestly really didn't want to spend money for the next two months or so, and now I've spent so much the past few days

Hmm, mtg can be addicting sometimes... the wallet just screams in terror. XD

Hard to believe that CB's are over 20 dollars now. They were only 6 dollars apiece last Christmas. It's a stroke of luck that I put funds into buying 2 of them during the holidays.
