For the haters, please play with these decks. They are incredibly (INCREDIBLY) well balanced.
Having actually played them, I can attest to their badassery.
This is NOT Divine vs Demonic, which was complete garbage. Easily the best Duel Deck since Jace vs Chandra. The Coalition really has an incredibly awesome manabase (I was never color screwed for more than a turn or two before Fertile Ground or Yavimaya Elder helped me out), and Phyrexia has an awesome artifacts + scary dudes theme that requires answers or you get demolished.
Lightning Greaves into Negator is insanely scary, but Gerard's Command can put you back in the game when they think they have it locked up via Puppet Strings.
Awesome Decks are Awesome! Really, really happy with this product. Just my $.02
The more I've been thinking about it, the less I like Signets. Frequent pass-outs, many, many times being left in the board even when on-color. Been thinking about pulling them.
At best it draws 4-5 cards (which it did twice this evening).
Quote from PhantomS »
You're doing a disservice to this statistic by not indicating that 3-4 of those cards were necessarily lands, which isn't that great in a format without seismic assault.
And you're doing a disservice to the fact that, had you left a 3-4 land flood on top of your deck being a control player, you'd be sweating for a business card regardless of any Divination or Esper Charm you might cast instead.
Treasure Hunt is good. +1.
This.
Hahaha, PhantomS, you crack me up. I actually laughed out loud. I've been on a boat all week and missed out on this comedy! I feel bad for missing out this long. I should've known better than to feed the trolls. I'm okay with letting history (or the Pro Tour, whichever) prove me right.
Phantom, you have proven that you are very stubborn in your opinions. Unfortunately this doesn't make them correct.
Sign of a troll: They quote (and retort) line-by-line. Beware those types.
But I still can't stop laughing. Seismic Assault? Seriously? That's where you go with that comment? Do you know how control decks work, particularly control vs control? (ie the deck with the highest land count usually wins?) Do you not understand the fact that you were going to draw those lands anyway, and this one spell let you skip 4-5 'empty' draw steps?
Ah crap, I'm doing it again. Must resist the feeding. It's cool Phantom, you're right, I'm wrong, feel good about your opinions.
Hahaha, you argue so hard against it...maybe you should try it.
I played with it this evening (yes, shocking!) instead of just railing against it.
Treasure Hunt is insane.
Think about it this way: At -worst- it 'cycles' for two mana. At best it draws 4-5 cards (which it did twice this evening).
I played with 4x Halimar Depths, 4x Jace the Mind Sculptor and 4x Treasure Hunt and let me tell you it wasn't anywhere close to fair. Setting up incredible Treasure Hunts with Jace's Brainstorm ability is the nuts.
I believe you haven't even tried playing with it at this point, because you make arguments that echo those who haven't done so either.
Feel free to see how many Treasure Hunts will show up in San Diego, because I assure you it will be many. Good card is good.
Let's not even get started with Legacy, where Treasure Hunt has --by itself-- tripled the price of Scroll Rack.
I too was once a doubter, but the goodness is undeniable for me, having seen what the card can do in actual sanctioned Magic.
I look at this card and think, 2 or 3 years ago this is a $15 car. Wizards has been short printing and adding mythic rares etc to increase the value of cards. Personaly I think the value of the top tier of cards in each set has become insane. Example ( other then jace ) is baneslayer. No one can deny the awsome power of baneslayer but look to the recent past wityh Ex Angel. In its hay day it was every bit as popular as baneslayerr and it was never more then $20. Baneslayer which is marginaly better, but better none the less, is $50+. And now we have the new jace. Their is no denying that the card has some sick potential. But look at the format. There isnt a tier 1 deck in any format thats gonna get better from jace. Their isn't a teir 2 deck in any format thats going to become tier 1 as a result of jace. And when I look at jace's abilitys, i recognize their amazing potential, but see a card thats not good enough to build a deck around it. What jace is, is a sorcery speed Peek, Brainstorm, and boomerang, that is easier to negate then all of the afore mentioned cards. Long and short. He's a good card with great pontential but going to see limited play at best. He is worthy of a $15 card and i think its pretty clear. If they printed some entwine card that brainstorm and peek and called it epic would any one be paying $60 for them. Or 40, 30, or 20. No they might pay 15.
Of course, of course, there's no Tier 1 Standard deck, played by a Pro Tour Champion and winning thousands of dollars, that could possibly use this Planeswalker.
I'm not even going to bother linking Legacy decklists, but I'm pretty sure Threshold and CounterTop will both be interested in trying him out.
Ridiculous Mythic is Ridiculous. Could very well be the most expensive standard-legal card ever printed. Baneslayer hit $65 for a few weeks, and has -stabalized- at $60. If Jace + Baneslayer becomes the Deck To Beat, both of those cards could hit $80+.
Not just my words, read em from someone who knows what they're talking about.
Umm, I disagree. Almost every planeswalker is playable in some form or another, and the big splashy finishers are usually competitively costed, or very powerful. Whether it's Baneslayer or Iona, Elspeth or Garruk, mythics are hardly trash. Look at cards like Uril the Miststalker. He's not seeing very much play, but he's competitive.
*Clearly remembers players forking over $25 for Uril, the Miststalker at Pro Tour: Hollywood...*
Also: Insane in Hypergenesis in Extended. Wow.
Easily one of the most all-in cards ever printed. I love it

Um, there IS a Phyrexian Arena in the Phyrexia deck. Reading comprehension FTW?

So sad. Oh Brute Force. How the mighty have fallen.
With Slaughter Cry just put in the last set? Really? Sigh.
Of course I can't!
Also, I mistyped. It was Pro Tour: Honolulu, not Pro Tour: Hollywood. Oops.
