Hello everyone, I've been building this deck for a long time and went to a local tourney a few weeks back, the meta is super developed with plenty of tier 1, 1.5 decks, I ended up going 1-3 but I think I (and the deck) can do far better in future events.

My decklist at the mooment is:

    8 swamp
    4 mishra's factory
    4 wasteland
    4 dakmor salvage
    3 urborg, tomb of yawgmoth

    4 mox diamond
    3 the rack

    4 deathrite shaman
    4 skittering skirge
    4 bloodghast
    1 soulflayer
    2 tombstalker

    4 cabal therapy
    4 hymn to tourach
    4 smallpox
    3 pox

The list I played last tournament looked very similar to this one, but I had some minor changes, like only 2 skirges, 4 racks and 2 MD extirpate (now on the SB).

The tournament report is a few weeks old, so take the meta considerations with a grain of salt, speciallt since many players there can switch decks from week to week.

    Match 1Elves:
I won G1 after some attrition and getting lucky with a 2nd turn Hymn on the play, followed up by more discard. Tombstalker finished the job shortly after.
G2 he comboed on the second turn so there was not much I could do.
G3 was an attrition fest again And I won afetr he tryed to combo with few creatures to chain. Pox (saccing Ghast) plus Skirge won my first competitive match in over five years.

    M2 Grixis
The dream was over preety fast G1 He chained a crazy bunch of cantrips and overruned me with Young Pyro tokens and double bolt.
I remember siding in Leyline of the void in G2 to fight Dig Through Time, and it worked, but the cantrip chains kept his hand full of answers and I eventually died to a jace Ultimate. i cannot remember correctly bc my notes are messed up,, but I made a midsized mistake in G2, casting a shaman with a skirge in play and a therapy on the yard... not a huge thing but i kept making those kind of mistakes all afternoon.

    M3 BUG control
This is the match that should have won but ended up loosing to my own mistakes. With a bit more practice this will be winnable.
He plays a Jace, Liliana, Ashiok, Loam hybrid. G1 I started with heavy disruption and manage to put him on 3 life, with a ghast in play and anotherone in the yard, instead of dredging the dakmor salvage also in the yard I drew a card and casted Cabal therapy plus flashback without attacking. He ended up winning that game afterwards...
G2 I disrupted him and poxed him to oblivion
G3 we went back and forth for a long drawn out game that ended with him decking me with Ashiok and Loam recursion. A turn before he ultimated Ashiok I decided not to play a Tombstalekr in my hand to "wait for a turn to see what he does" This is not the kind of deck that holds down cards to answer the opp threats, this is hands down aggro disruption, no hold barred attack. Next turn he erased my yard and i lost motivation and the game shortly after.

    M4 Deathblade
G1 he starts with a fetch into tropical island into deathrite, I cast a blind therapy naming Brainstorm and hit jackpot. Then Hymn, smallpox ghast and skirge. He conceded.
G2 Long game. We went back and forth trading discard for counterspells for a while, but eventually he landed a batterskull and sworded all my dudes.
G3 I mulled twice to find a hand with lands, and kept one with threats but no disruption, He killed me with batterskull again.

All in all I believe that the pox strategy is potent, The only real time I felt out of my game was against Swarm plus burn, otherwise i attribute the losses to missplays and being out of practice with tournament play (really, the last tournament i went was an old Extended one).

Right now my Sb looks something like this:

    2 necroplasm
    2 pithing needle
    2 ratchet bomb
    3 leyline of the void
    2 engineered plague
    2 duress
    1 sadistic sacrament
    1 massacre

Pros: The list is super disruptive, and hands with disruption and a clock are heavy contenders. First turn hymn rules. Skirge steal games, stalker seals them. If yoy play your cards right games tend to be very fast, wich leaves you time to see what the rest of the people are playing with...
Cons: Missplays, being in burn range, opp outdrawing you. Resolved noncreature threats are hard to deal with, as also are swarms.

Soulflayer is a test slot bc I couldn't find a third Stalker...

The leylines could very likely become extirpates and surgicals, to hose duals for the synnergy with therapy.

The next card on my buylist is Liliana, what can I remove for her?
In a few weeks I'll be playing again (job, college and girlfriend pull theyr weight against MTG spare time)
Thought, ideas on how to improve the list, playing tips, and any advice are welcomed.

    Saludos!

Hey Spooky, great thread as usual. It`s been a long time since my last post here in MTGSalvation, I`ve been toying with some of your deck ideas. Took them as basis for my own brewing and this is what i came up with after a year or so playing them casually.

    Mono W Tokens

So far the list feels really good and sometimes can be very explosive. I don`t have the Mentors yet, just testing them shows promise though.
An idea I had was to go -4 Orim's Chant sending them to the SB, and go for +1 Eidolon of Rhetoric, +1 Spirit of the Labyrinth, +1 Enlightened Tutor, and +1 Umezawa's Jitte.

Another list I like a lot is Fangren Forest:

The Sb should include Thorn of Amethyst, Trinisphere, and Ratchet Bomb vs combo alone, and sometimes that`s not even enough.

I hope you like my take and evolutions on your propossed decklists. Ideas and suggestions are obviously welcomed.

Beast within is certainly a good catchall. Have you given any thought to phyrexian revoker? You can name food chain and stop his combo cold as well as other nonland abilities that might matter.

I would definitely not run new frontiers. It has uses, but they are mostly casual. The fact that your opponent will get the untap first is the bad part. Lead the stampede is certainly a good option.

I wonder about beacon of creation, though. How often do you get 4+ insects out of it early game? I have similar questions about akroma's memorial. I have no idea that if it hits it's a good card, but it seems a very dead draw before like turn 5 or 6. If you do keep running the token abilities, maybe a craterhoof behemoth over something? It'll certainly be the win then and there.

    .
Thanks about the ideas. i've made some changes to the list I have:

I have't had the chance to test it yet, but at least it plays really good at goldfish level. The suggestions were very good and accurate.

@Spooky: As usual your decklists are a true inspiration. I entered the Legacy format by building a budget gaunlet of decks, one of each color and a mono brown deck as well, and your lists were a very good starting point for brewing ideas. When I get the time I'll posts my lists for the other decks (MB aggro Pox, MW aggro-control tokens, MU Delver tempo, MUD) for discussion. I´m still lost about the red list since Burn and goblins are not what I want to play, still brewing a Sligh list, but nothing I'm confortable enough.

Back on topic: Any ideas about the SB?
I'm guessing a large part would have to be dedicated for combo decks, Thorn, Trini, chalice, and some other part Vs graveyard decks, plus the extra copies of beast within.

Hello everyone! I was trying to build a mono green deck to use in my casual gaunlet. I wanted something that isn't obvious, so Elves was out of the question, so, when I saw this thread my brewer instinct awoke.

So far, this is what I have proxied:

The deck is preety straight forward, ramp like crazy until elders, titans and a swarm of insects finish the game.

New frontiers is a card that I´m not sure about. On the one hand, it really ramops like crazy, thins the deck and pumps my guys. But also helps my opponent more than I like from time to tiem. I could see it being harmonizeor lead the stampede.

I have no idea about the sideboard. Combo decks seem to be almost unwinnable, played versos a friend´s food chain deck a couple of times and lost horribly... best card there was beast within so upping the count in the sb is certainly going to happen.

Another thing that I would like to test is an improved toolbo for the GSZ, cards like bellowing tanglewurm, champion of lambholt and eldrazi monumentseem like promising replacements for the memorials.

As usual, thoughts, ideas and suggestions are welcomed.

I´ve asked this question in several LGS and everytime I´ve gotten different answers.
If I have a Grafted Wargear in play, turn a Mishra´s Factory into an assembly worker and equip it with the Gear. Assuming that survives to the EOT. What happens?
A brief list of some of the explanation that I was given about this:
The land remain equiped even if it´s not a creature anymore.
The land is sacrificed EOT after it gets un-equiped for not being a creature anymore.
It´s not sacrificed after it becomes un-equiped because is not a creature.
It´s sacrificed the next time it´s turned into a creature again.

Help please, this is giving me a headache.

@narah: Vesuva is an absolute must go, but is out of budget for now. Wasteland could be problematic, specially in multiples. That in part is the reason I chose to put STE´s and Vorinclex in the MD, to ramp with basics if necessary.
In case Wastes are abundant I could try some number of Pithing Needles.
@ViperF: Oracle seems very good, and the way the deck wants to go, haven´t tested her yet, but looks promising. As far as the Magus.. I dont know, tryed it in the past, and it was clunky as hell. A nice one drop for sure, but a terrible topdeck, and veeeeery slow for combo.

Any thoughts for the SB? Right now is a total mess since I never had any SB experience:
    1_Choke
    3_Carpet of flowers
    2_Krosan grip
    2_Relic of prog.
    2_Pithing needle
    5_Open

Sorry for the double post, but I did some testing and some changes to the deck!

    13_Forest
    4_Cloudpost
    4_Glimmerpost
    1_Glacial Chasm
    1_Bojuka Bog
    1_Eye of Ugin
    1_Dryad Arbor

    2_Veteran Explorer
    1_Dryad Militant
    2_Wall of Roots
    4_Sakura-tribe Elder
    1_Thornweald Archer
    1_Fierce Empath
    1_Troll Ascetic
    1_Eternal Witness
    1_Wickerbrough Elder
    4_Primeval Titan
    1_Steel Hellkite
    1_Terastodon
    1_Vorinclex Voice of Hunger
    1_Emrakul

    4_Expedition Map

    4_Crop Rotation
    4_Green Sun´s Zenith
    1_Primal Surge

Now I believe that the deck has more board presence. Tryed out Masa88´s advice and took out the Gamekeepers since they ware to random (still miss them a bit though) and the Disks, for STE since they are faster chump blockers and straight basic land ramp. Ascetic is Thrun budget replacement and a heavy improvement over the Blasto in the OP.

I will go to a local tournament this Saturday, I will have to scout the metagame to see if this deck is the right choice or not.

No idea on the sideboard, I know I´ll need a form of combohate and even more yardhate because after all this is Legacy and yard strategys are allways rampant.

    Thanks for reading.

    Hello Masa88, thanks for replying.
First and foremost, yes Blasto should become Thrun, no questions asked, he is just better overall. As for the gamekeeper I agree that he is inconsistent as hell. He can be a total blout out from time to time, but worst-case scenario, he drops a Veteran explorer and that´s it... There are some nice creatures to test in his place:maybe not another 3-off but a spread of silver bullets like Scavenging Ooze seems the best of all, but also Wolfir Silverheart, and even Thornweald Archer could be there. The thing with Gamekeeper is that he is very easy to cast in post heavy hands and has a strong psychological efect on the opp. He´s not that strong without a black splash for Therapy though. Maybe he belongs in a more control combo list, focusing on spells instead of creatures.
Even though I agree that All is Dust is better than Disk, the main reason I´m playing it is because it can be played on a 2nd or 3rd turn if needed. Not so much for the Eldrazi Sweeper. Raw cleaning the board of early drops is very important and I´ve found that the Disk is even faster than Ratchet Bomb vs decks that have a wider mana base. but I believe is a matter of tastes. If I ever get my hands on some Candelabras then All is Dust would be an inmediate choice. If planeswalkers are the real issue here, then swapping disks for needles will certainly help.

    Thanks for answering.

Hello people. I´m GenioDeArena, a long time budget/cassual player.
For ages I´ve been fooling with the idea of a Cloudpost deck to work on a mono green aggro shell. After some time in the dust, I took it as a very serious idea. It has a lot of inevitability in it. And eventually, the opponent will run out of answers and the last fatty will get there.

This is what I have so far:

    13 Forest
    4 Cloudpost
    4 Glimmerpost
    1 Glacial Charm
    1 Bojuka Bog
    1 Eye of Ugin

    1 Dryad Arbor
    4 Veteran Explorer
    2 Fierce Empath
    1 Eternal Witness
    3 Gamekeeper
    1 Blastoderm
    1 Wickerbrough Elder
    4 Primeval Titan
    1 Steel Hellkite
    1 Krosan Tusker
    1 Terastodon
    1 Emrakul, the Aeons Torn

    4 Expedition Map
    2 Nevynirral´s Disk

    4 Crop Rotation

    4 Green Sun´s Zenith
    1 Primal Surge

Basically the idea is to attack with a lot of fattys as fast and reliably as possible. Even with Mr Lovecraft´s unatributed homage himself, hardcasting him if given the chance.

To achieve this, the deck uses the exponentially mana-growing power of the Locus lands. Only 8 post, but they are powerull indeep to warrant posible inclusion.
Being this a budget deck, I had to leave behind the power of the most expensive nonbasics: Tabernacle, Karakas, Depths combo, and dual manabases, but I wouldn´t mind trying them if given the chance. Green seemed the most synnergistic color for both crude ramping and tutoring key pieces. Plus being in only one color is good because the mana base can play many more basics for much needed resiliency.

For the creature base I went for a GSZ-oriented curve, consisting in a mixture of 4-offs for consistency and silver bullets for tutoring.

Titan is the king of the deck and wins the games on himself if left unchecked. As simple as that.
Veteran Explorer is a recent adition inspired by Nic-Fit, and he is really promessing. best 1-drop so far.
Gamekeeper helps a lot more than many might think, Don´t let the 2/2 body scary you, he´s aboth as a very scary blocker, or an unblockable pinger.
Many one-offs should be self explanatory. Knowing the subtle interactions between then is key for coming out of complicated situations. and they provide your main form of interaction with the op. They are all open for changes, and are the main flex spots of the deck.

GSZ, Expedition map and Crop Rotation do most the searching. Handling the Expedition maps and Crop Rotations correctly can be complicated and require some practice since inteligent ramping iis the only real way to start the engine going. Figuring uot the order of your land drops is vital for the deck. The most simple line of play will be to go Map first leaving Rotations for End of turn tricks and other pesky and annoying plays.
Disk is for board control, and free activations of Veteran Explorer and Gamekeeper.
The singleton Primal Surge is another flex slot, and should certaily could be another creature. But so far has winned me 7 of the 9 games were it showed up, one loss being absolutely my own fault (haha!).

I don´t have a Sideboard yet, Obviously combo decks and other speed kings are going to be hard to beat, but thedeck can certainly grind like no other and pull wins out of nowere.
Chalices seem the bestr choice and Root maze could help to some degree. Green packs a very decent arsenal of enchantments for a lot of situations: Choke, Carpet of Flowers, Elephant Grass, City of Solitude, Compost, Lurking Predators, Green uncounterable-creatures Leylines, and many others. And a mixture of some yard-hate and more silver bullets.

I´ve put a lot of time and effort in this deck, it can win both in very complicated ways while beating face in the meantime.

    Hope you enjoyed the reading.

To be honest you´ll need a lot of work to make this a Legacy standard deck. First you need to focus on your goals, but at the same time lower the mana curve, b/c Legacy is a fast interactive format, and if you don´t do anything relevant in the first 3 turns, then you die.

Try softening the mana base with a combination of Azorius Guildgate, and the m13 and Mirrodin Besieged duals.
Also the creatures and spells need some streamlining. Kami of the false hope, Mindshrieker, Nibilis of the urn, are fast. While Drogskoll Capitain, and Celestial Crusader work as evasive pumps.
Also, Daze and STP are budget friendly cards that will fit very good in this strategy.

The rest of the deck depends on what you want to play and the metagame. Aggresive Equipments, more pump (honor of the pure type), or more disruption (Spell pierce, Mana Tithe, Armaggeddon, Wrath of god), more cretures,, you name it.
Just keep in mind one rule for Legacy, if a spell is cc4 or more ask yourself if it will win you the game on it´s own. If the answer is no, then dicht it for something else.

I hope to see how this homebrew evolves.

I see you‘ve already found the gem that is Tortured Existence. For an infinite lock with Tortured Existence and two copies of either Grandeur creature, use Krovikan Horror. By discarding the Grandeur creature, swapping it for a Krovikan Horror and then discarding it again, you can use the Grandeur ability every turn for B. Do note that the Horror triggers in every end step, so you can also use Oriss to keep them from playing on your turn (apart from responding to the ability). The Horror + Existence engine also plays very nicely with cards like Shriekmaw, by the way.

I‘m not sure if a deck like this would be efficient enough for Legacy, but I‘ve had immense fun and some success with several Tortured Existence decks, so I‘m interested to see how this idea will end up.

The nightmare effect was a deck developed in this page, It doesn´t use a grandeur combo, but could see some revamping since the thread is not very active lately...

Tooth and Nail could certaily be a nice line of play. Right now your best option is to proxy and start brewing until you find a list that really suits your fancy.

As a sidenote, if you go de Omnat/BoP/Zenith route, maybe Seedborn Muse could be a candidate for testing (but proxy before buying anything)

Hello Snafujammer, i really like this kind of decks. Hitting hard and often with big guys is very appealing, but you should consider speeding the deck up a little bit. Elvish Piper and Defense of the Heart are very good ways of putting fatties into play, but theyare somewhat slow. You can try slowing the opponent while gaining time to develop your own boar with cards like Peace Talks, Spore Frog/Kami of False Hope and more heavy mana producers and some yard interaction with Genesis. Remember that Legacy is a very unforgiving format. Even the fastest deck need some way of interaction to survive.
Try limiting the lifegaining aspects of the deck, they are only decent to gain you some turns, but you want to be proactive in our plays, not reactive. You will also have to decide if you want to go the Token route or not. If you choose the Defense of the Heart route, cards like Hunted Lammasu and specially Hunted Hunted Troll could help you kick it earlyer. Also almost any green creature deck benefits from a pleyset of Green Sun´s Zenith, it open so many plays that will really strengten your deck altogether with Quasali Pridemage, Scavenger Ooze, ans Gaddock Teeg out in the board.

Hope it somehow helps. But mostly enjoy, Legacy is the best deckbuilding format for all the options it provides!!

Hello everyone! Since years now I´ve toying with the idea of building a deck based on Cloudpost and it´s friends. Then I remembered an obscure deck from the early days of Legacy: The Game, that used Gamekeeper triggers to cheat a fatty into play early on. I believe there is a sinnergy between those decks and decided to try to merge them.

So far the list I´ve come to is this:

    1_Fierce Empath
    1_Eternal Witness
    3_Gamekeeper
    4_Primeval Titan
    1_Terastodon
    1_Emrakul, the Aeons Torn

    4_Crop Rotation
    4_Expedition Map
    4_Green Sun´s Zenith
    3_Ratchet Bomb
    4_Nevynirral´s Disk

    4_Cloudpost
    4_Glimmerpost
    1_Dryad Arbor
    1_Glacial Chasm
    1_Bojuka Bog
    1_Eye of ugin
    12_Forest

That´s 54 cards, 6 slots are open to suggestions and many things ware tested: Now those spaces are used in 4xWall of blossoms & 2xWall of Root to speed thing up a little, but they sometimes clash with the gamekeeper activations. In their place I´ve tested also 1-2 Cartographer, who somehow work with the keeper activation to return a land you just milled... But as you can imagine all this is just meh when all you want to do is attacking with Emmy, Titans and a swarm of elephants for the win.
I´m thinking those slots could be used for some number of Besat Within, moment´s Peace and/or Ancient Stirrings.
The thing with the deck is that is unbeatable in the lategame, but getting there is complicated. faster decks are a serious problem, and I haven´t played vs any pure combo, because is practically nonexistant in my playgroup. But just by looking at some decklists those matchups seem to be near unwinnable.

Any thought, ideas, and suggestions to improve the deck are certainly welcomed.
