Both the old and new legend rule make little sense flavor-wise. The most flavorful interaction would be my legend summon replacing your legend on the battlefield. Since that would obviously be too powerful, the new legend rule is a fair compromise.
I have no clue why people are mad just because of the "flavor". Why is Mirror Gallery such a highly-rated card when that also violates your precious legend flavor. Just pretend that Wizards is casting half a Mirror Gallery at all sanctioned tournaments and stop being mad.
The new planeswalker rule makes game play much smoother. If I have a planeswalker on the battlefield with no easy way to tick down to zero, and I have another version of the planeswalker in my hand with a more relevant ability I want to use, it would be so clunky if I needed another copy just to suicide. This new replacement effect was a good call.
you dont get the point. did you ever read things about timetraveling for example?
that the world implodes when 2 similar invididuals are at the same place at the same time?
the rule before just followed this rule, that there cant be 2 exact identical invididuals on the same spot.
2 goblin warchiefs are not 2 identical individuals. cause its just a rank and not a name. there could be 1000 goblin warchiefs.
but there is just one jayce, or one chandra or one "insert random legend". so it is impossible that there are two chandras on the battlefield even if they are on different sides.
that means wizards just ****s on any lore, or logic. the rule before made sense, since they just picked up a thing, which is described in many other fantasy novels too.
now you have 2 exact identical beings fight each other to death....
Yep, so now instead of Wizards sparknoting the fight, they are letting you and your opponent act it out on the battlefield like real Magicians. Seems like a flavor win.
Are you saying I need to block with my Clone to get rid of a hexproof legend? Time to quit.
The old legend rule was no better flavor-wise. How does summoning the same legend (or even worse shapeshift some other creature into a legend), bury the one already on the battlefield?
The legendary rule change is great and will result in new and interesting game play. With more and more of the same planeswalker types getting printed, revising planeswalker uniqueness was the right choice. People were mad when M10 "dumbed down" Magic, and now they are mad when these new rules have added complexity to two of the most appealing permanents. A board state with two JtMS is much more engaging than a board state with none. A board state with two Emrakuls is much more high-stakes than a board state with none. If I have a haste-granting effect or other removal, I would much rather have my clone stay on the battlefield as a copy of a legend. These rule changes are great.
I had both Darksteel Ingot and Manalith in this deck at one point, but cut them both in favor of more 2cmc mana artifacts, so I can cast Kaalia turn 3. With all the land destruction and non-basic hosers (Blood Moon and Ruination), I convinced myself to use a budget mana base. Without duals, fetches did not seem that effective (just my excuse to save money).
I wanted to make a deck with big creatures, so I went with Kaalia. The goal is to rush her out quickly and swing consistently on turn 4. Then, start attacking everyone's mana base in the following turns to prevent mass removal. Price of Glory works well, since I run zero instants. Chancellor of the Annex is especially nice to get out after Armageddon. Cabal Conditioning benefits from the density of big creatures.
I chose Mirri to be my Voltron. She's fast, evasive, and fights other creatures well. This list is meant for dueling, but it can perform well in multiplayer (if you don't play too suicidally). The goal is to blast your opponent's hand as quickly as possible, control the board with targeted and mass removal, and then when the coast is clear, beat in with Hatred and/or Lashwrithe/Nightmare Lash/Strata Scythe/Blackblade Reforged/Liliana of the Dark Realms. Mirri is fairly cheap to recast, but if things drag on and spells become too expensive, Extraplanar Lens, Gauntlet of Power, and Caged Sun are there to help.
I wanted to try a tribal-based deck, so I went with Azami. The goal is to clutter the board with wizards and then challenge yourself to keep them alive. Eventually, with some finagling, you can combo off. Nothing too original here.
