I disagree. They seem to be printing graveyard hate like they are admitting SC Mage is a mistake. I can't see them putting it in M14 and having it spend another year in Standard.

I would try for Geists + $75 for the Bonfires. I would definitely do it if I could get $70-$80 plus the Geists. I think Geist is positioned better post-rotation than Bonfire.

That's funny because I was wondering why everyone was talking about drafting once a week. Then I realized that there are magic players who have not discovered Magic Online. I haven't drafted m13 250 times but I bet I have done it 40 or 50. I am one of the few people who actually likes AVR draft. I think it is interesting to try to build decks out of unplayable cards lol.

I personally dislike m13. I can't really qualify it other than to say that there aren't really any interesting decks to build. I think my favorite might be the tokens/ trumpet blast strategy. I guess I feel like every draft of m13 goes almost exactly the same.

Best RTR charms from best to worst:

    Selesnya
    Izzet
    Azorius
    Golgari
    Rakdos

    In that order.

Third post in the thread had it right IMO.

You should have 4 Snapcaster Mages, no 6- drops, and no more than 22 land. That is the best advice I can give you.

If you have to rely on having two Zodiac Dragons in your hand to get around removal then it's hardly an efficient or particularly viable combo. Tongue

I mean, you are assuming the opponent has instant speed removal and the mana to use it on turn one or two, so it doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility that I would have 2 Dragons.

There is a lot of talk about 2 drops in the last few pages of this thread. I personally run Suture Priest in this slot. It can cause some significant life swings. The Zombies! matchup is such a race, and Suture Priest makes you win it. I recommend it as a sideboard option at the very least. I run 2 in the main. My deck is very dissimilar from the lists I see in the last 6 or 7 pages.

Mine is almost all white with a splash for just Lingering Souls Flashback and Vault of the Archangel in the mainboard and Go for the Throat in the Sideboard. I also run Champion of the Parish, Blade Splicer, Honor of the Pure, and Angel of Jubilation. Give my version a try. I plan to try yours. My version has been dominating Delver decks. The Naya decks seem to be the worst matchup.

As a general investment, turning $5 into $15 in a month is definitely "Skyrocketing". Imagine if you bought 1000 of them...

As it's a triggered ability, your opponent would only have to respond to the trigger the first time you discard it to be able to remove Wild Mongrel or Lotleth Troll with Fire//Ice or Lightning Bolt.

Sure they could, assuming you only have one Zodiac Dragon.

  • posted a message on Which card/guild are you picking for the prerelease (strategy discussion)
I signed up for the prerelease early so I could be in Golgari. It surprises me that more people aren't into that strategy. My thought is this: I would prefer to be aggro in almost every limited format I have ever played. (I am not sure if this is the correct strategy, it is just how I like to play. Put the opponent on the back foot and keep them there.)

Basically I feel like the Golgari Promo can get me ahead and its synergy with both Scavenge and Unleash can keep me ahead.

I also think the Golgari stuff that has been spoiled is the strongest of the 5 guilds. Personally I think Rakdos on its own is almost unplayable.

Not every Rakdos card has to be good for it to be playable, I'm still gonna stick with it. But yes, the charm is incredibly disappointing. Unplayable in a Rakdos deck is right.

What I don't get is that G/W gets a 3 to cast 3/3 ETB gain 3 life as a common that just directly hoses what Rakdos tries to do. Yet Rakdos cards just get worse and worse. Where's the logic in that. Or is power creep just reserved for non Rakdos guilds.

I guess I consider good and playable to be the same thing. If you "stick with Rakdos" and they don't get some cards that are A LOT better than what is spoiled thus far, I hope you don't mind losing a lot of games of MTG.

By the way, I do not dispute that this card has some utility in the SB. The problem is that all three other charms are some of the most powerful cards spoiled so far and clearly maindeck options. Combine this with the fact that Rakdos has literally gotten basically no creatures that are above the curve and you might as well not have a BR colored guild.

The unleash creatures wouldn't even be above the curve if they could block!

That is still bad. Rakdos gets a sideboard card, the other guilds get an auto 4-of maindeck card.

  • posted a message on [RtR] Rakdos Charm
I am not a Rakdos player, but I am disappointed by the fact that the guild is basically unplayable compared to the others. In the original Ravnica block, Rakdos got the useless and poorly executed Hellbent mechanic, now they get the equally useless and poorly executed Unleash ability (which could be great if taking the +1 counter gave the creature haste in addition to 'can't block')

This charm is basically unplayable in the main deck. The others are going to be Standard Staples for the next two years. It just kind of stinks for the balance of playing different decks in different color combos.

The point about it destroying a Pithing Needle set to Falkenrath Aristocrat is just dumb. No offense intended, but if the opponent wastes a Needle to stop the sac ability of Aristocrat, they are down a card and I still have a 4/1 flying haster.

I personally think underworld connections is a junk rare. Most auras end up there. I agree that cyclonic rift is really good. It does serious work in either mode. It will replace vapor snag to a degree and has awesome late game potential.

No one else likes Jarad's Orders? Double tutor seems really good to me. Dump a scavenge guy, a Gravecrawler, or an Unburial Rites target in the yard and the card you need in your hand?
