I'll just chime in with my cube. It's just an old-border cube, so anything Pre-8th Edition is considered.
The reason I went for this is because despite playing since Revised as a kid, I didn't get into magic competitively until Oddysey-Onslaught. I also like that some colours got a huge boost in those last 2-3 blocks, particularly creature-wise, which makes the draft feel more powerful and interesting. Not to mention, multicolour cards got a huge, huge leg up from Invasion Block. It means I can actually run three good cards in each 2-colour combination.
Edit: I should mention, having the classic cube has been a good outlet for cards that got cut from my regular cube. When I built my classic cube, I was still running Juzam Djinn in my regular cube. Now that baby still gets to be played
I started building 93/94 earlier this year. I came in during Revised originally, so I actually don't mind white bordered and that has helped limit prices, but everything else is original edition. I'm in the middle of Arabian Nights right now. I got the biggies that I wanted (LoA, Juzam and S. Efreet) but, man, prices are out of control for the rest of that set and many of them are impossible to find in NM. 93/94 is probably not the way to go to save money at the moment. But man is it fun.
Wow I just checked the price on AN Serendib Efreet. Just cut that card from my cube too.
Oh, I revised the City of Brass, because I didn't like the fade to black for some reason. Maybe it was the fact that the rest of the card was so light in colour. Anyway, it doesn't match with my Cardkitty shocks now, but I think it looks better imo (my wife liked the first version better though).
As earlier this week it wss -15 degrees Fahrenheit, I really appreciate that winter city of brass.
Thanks man. I should mention, I did this card with the intention of it having match my Shocklands done by Cardkitty as best as possible. It's very hard to imitate their style.
I don't think Fulminator Mage fits into the top 6-7 Rakdos cards required for inclusion in my cube. It's a bit sad because I would have included it if it were mono-red, but I define hybrid cards as multicolor.
This doesn't make sense to me. The reason to restrict gold cards is that they can't be cast in as many kinds of decks as monocolored cards, but 1 can be cast in more decks than 1RR. If you think it's good enough to include at 1RR, you should definitely find a way to make room for it because it's a more flexible card than that.
The problem is that it would skew colorbalance. Someone drafting a Bx deck would pick Fulminator Mage over something else and thereby reducing the number of picks available for the red players (assuming the Mage was categorized as a red 3 drop). I have tried to keep an even number of hybrid cards in each guild, but some guilds have up to 2 strong 'must-have' (e.g. Selesnya, Dryad Militant and Kitchen Finks) hybrid cards and some guilds have 0 or 1 fringe hybrid (e.g. Azorius). Therefore I just categorize them as multicolor guild cards along with the other 'true' multicolored cards.
Ok, well just put Fulminator in Red, and Rakdos Cackler in black. Balanced! No?
I'm late to the jace discussion, but would anyone else pick snapcaster over jace? I'm a small powered cube, so that could affect my decision, because having time walk and ancestral recall being potential targets bumps him up a little. Thought it was weird he wasn't mentioned. (also I definitely wouldn't fp upheaval over jace)
Most people wouldn't first pick Upheaval over Jace P1P1 when it came down to it. However, I've made decks that would absolutely take the Upheaval over Jace later in the draft.
Snapcaster isn't as good in cube as he is in constructed. He is still great, but isn't anywhere near as great as JTMS is by himself in cube imo.
There are a lot of nice artifact cards that go well together in draft, even at common. Just check out the two Mirrodin blocks, and Modern Masters 1. Not a lot of great "finishers" per se, but a lot of nice stuff to "artifact" your way into, like Myr Enforcer, Arcbound Wanderer, plus the other arcbound cards and Ornithopter. I think probably the best finisher would be cranial plating.
Just got back from work and received this awesome gift in my mail box - i guess german mail had been faster at one point in time. Very nice art on all of these. I tried to alter/extend cards many times and always failed very badly, so i know the effort it takes do complete even one with such detail. I apologize for the poor quality of my camera, but trust me, these cards look even better in real - it is nearly impossible to tell where the extension begins.
Thank you so much secret santa!
I'm glad the gift got to you safely (it's obviously from me :)). I was starting to get worried!

Here's the list, btw (it has pictures):

Surely you need at least seven more Pack Rats.

Yeah I didn't know what I was getting into when I started. It...took a while to get it looking reasonable

Nice. That Lightning Bolt is reaching elite tier pimp level at this point.
Cheers man I appreciate it. That sort of alter is out of my comfort zone, so I'm glad it turned out well

I've attached my scan of the alters if people want to see. or: http://i.imgur.com/mDrVJtJ.jpg
Is that everyone now? I'll check in with people in the next day or so.
