I'm splitting a box of this set, and we are guaranteed it at MSRP. Sooooo happy, it has more value than MMA an MM2.....
Just like with MM2 we have only seen true value at Mythic so far. Top and Wasteland at rare is nice, but unless we see some more seriously good non-mythics I'll be a little disappointed. Considering the price, I won't be able to buy more than a few packs of this, and I'm certainly not guaranteed a mythic. If the rares and uncommons are generally like MM2's then I probably will pass.
This card is by no means worthless. Firstly, it is a cube staple, and many people will be happy to get a sweet version with Terese Nielson art. Secondly, this will be the first time this card is printed in foil, which will make a lot of cube owners happy.
Sure, value wise it sucks to get this at rare, but there are people who want this card, unlike Enrek Sahr, Long Forgotten Gohei etc.
Man yeah we are getting some sweet new options for staple cards in this new set. I'll be keen to pick up a new Control Magic for sure. Should be cheap too.
How much will this cause the current price of the older versions (~$30 for regular, ~$90 for foil judge promo) to change?
How much will this version be, more or less? The new foil?
Judge foil won't likely change, as it's a sweet old border foil (see: Onslaught foil fetches). Regular Visions/6th copies will likely come down a wee bit.
Sigh...let me temper my lack of enthusiasm by saying, in purely an informational way, that I had no problem cracking Deathrites during Return to Ravnica. I don't know if I could handle it if I opened it as my rare. Also temper that by the understanding I will be cracking few, if any, packs based on current MSRP and likely actual RP.
Honestly, Deathrite Shaman is going to be one of those cards that will be highly playable (in everything other than modern, being banned) for the foreseeable future. It will probably rise in price over time (despite being reprinted here), so I wouldn't feel too stink about opening one of these. I have held onto two playsets plus a foil of DRS just because of how sweet the card is, and I know I'll play them or sell them one day.
Anything I should know about Lake of the Dead? It was a solid $4-6 for years. Now it is sold out at SCG at around $10, and the TCG mid is around $14. Is it just a reserved list thing?
Gorgeous! I'm glad you're still doing alters, I get a lot of compliments on the StP you did for me.
Thanks dudes.
I picked up an Unlimited Icy Manipulator the other day, which is kind of pimp, but kind of not pimp. Any ideas for a cool Icy Manipulator alter? There's always the obvious Adventure Time one.
Ancient Tomb has already been reprinted serveral times in the last couple years, though, and wasn't really that expensive to begin with.
Edit:Well, I guess it's gone up a bit, probably thanks to the new eldrazi. It wouldn't be bad to get some with those new diamonds, either, that aren't $70.
Yeah but it was really, really reprinted. I never count FTVs because they look and feel horrible. Expeditions barely count too, considering the price of those bastards.
Just a nice, non-foil version would be lovely please.

There are very, very few Red cards worth more $30, if you look at the cheapest printings of each card that is (i.e not counting Alpha/Beta printings).
Here is the list:
Imperial Recruiter
Blood Moon
Ali from Cairo
Sneak Attack
Goblin Guide
Magus of the Moon
And...that's it? You might count Zodiac Dragon too, but that's not a playable card.

I got socks and some shirts for my birthday.
Yeah man I might do at some point. It's one of the few that are also not insanely expensive too, so that's a plus.
Thanks dudes.

If we're talking pre-modern, then some of the better ones are:
Karakas
Rishadan Port
Ancient Tomb
Gemstone Mine
Mishra's Factory
