I actually really like the new art for Maelstrom Wanderer. If you're set on a foil, then that's the one to go for imo. If you like the original art that much better, maybe a sweet extended art alter would be your jam instead of a CMA foil.

You're not going to find a good template for a cube made up of a few boxes of MMA and EMA. If you're serious about building a cube, and you're on a budget, I'd suggest selling all the unopened boxes, then use the money to invest in singles.

Check the cube staples for less than $2 thread:

I agree with wtwlf123 on this one. It's just not reasonable to expect people to discuss the merits of cards based on anything other than power level and synergy.

When discussing Angel of Glory's Rise we wouldn't expect people to say "Angel of Glory's Rise is a really good card, because it has a lot of fun factor, and might fit the theme of your cube if you like Angels, but especially if you have a zombie and human theme. Also, Elesh Norn is very powerful, so you might also want to replace Elesh Norn with the angel if you think you want to bring the power down. Also, the fact that the Angel has flying might mean that it's better than Elesh Norn in a cube with few flying creatures."

As an aside, I have two cubes. One is unpowered, but apart from that, I run the most powerful cards possible. The other one is a classic cube (all old border). One of the reasons I made the classic cube is because I hated when my favourite old cards became not good enough in the regular cube. Now, I can play Blastoderm, Juzam Djinn etc. to my heart's content.

People have said many times on this forum that they want to design a cube that's based on "fun" or "enjoyment" rather than power level. As if cards exist in this vacuum that isn't tied to players' past experiences.

People enjoy playing with powerful and iconic cards. Contrary to what ravnic says, there is a correlation between power level and fun for a lot of people. it's not 1 : 1, but there is a reason that my cube is the most popular in the area when compared to other cubes that have gimmicks/themes or a lower power level. People love to open powerful cards and are excited to draft them.

My new Mind Twist... please let me know what do you think Smile

Sweet idea for a mind twist alter. As a math teacher myself, I'd like to have some math related alters. I think that alter would also be cool if it looked like chalk on blackboard.

Also, a really quick little alter I did, similar to one I did before. Don't know what I'm going to do with this, now that I have my expedition Strip Mine Wink

I wasn't here for any of the discussion of this, but does anyone else still think that magiccards.info was way, way better than whatever nonsense they are using on the site? I mean, the autocard system is cool, but in every other respect it's a downgrade imo.

Another batch of autographs came back. Smile

His sig is pretty classy. Up there with Quinton Hoover, Terese Nielsen. I love the shadow effect he does.

I painted on a Worn Powerstone last night. I was super tired and had no idea where I was going with it. It ended up looking funky.

Well, Eternal Masters is just...insane for cube.

    That is all.

Which version of Auramancer should I include? The normal Rebecca Guay one or the WPN Promo (Auramancer)?

    Rebecca Guay obviously. Odyssey foil.

Here's an interesting one, because despite very many different arts I don't think there's any kind of consensus on which is the "best" version of this card.

The original no. At common, no less. That art will probably look pretty good in foil, and I don't think the art for this one can be said to be any better or worse than any of the other versions. The single line of centered text is pretty cool, very fitting for such a basic and fundamental version of the effect. I'm torn as to whether the clean text box is worth the trade-off for Ertai's flavor text, which is one of the advantages that the FNM Counterspell has over the Beta / CE version.

Also, is it just me or is EMA pretty much Cube: The Limited Set? From what's been spoiled so far, these are some of the most powerful cards to have ever been printed, drafting this set is going to be nuts. Counterspell in a set at common! Never thought I'd see this again!

Yeah so far it is looking as good (or better) for cubes as MM1. If you recall, MM1 had a ridiculously large number of cube staples. I count 40 cards in MM1 that I still run in my cube. I hope EMA is that good!

I'm splitting a box of this set, and we are guaranteed it at MSRP. Sooooo happy, it has more value than MMA an MM2.....

Just like with MM2 we have only seen true value at Mythic so far. Top and Wasteland at rare is nice, but unless we see some more seriously good non-mythics I'll be a little disappointed. Considering the price, I won't be able to buy more than a few packs of this, and I'm certainly not guaranteed a mythic. If the rares and uncommons are generally like MM2's then I probably will pass.

    Ummmmm.....
You missed Entomb, Sylvan Library, Enlightened Tutor, Toxic Deluge, Gamble, Dack Fayden, Maze of Ith, Animate Dead and Bloodbraid Elf...

The spoilers look pretty good to those of us paying attention :p

Yeah good point, I forgot about some of those. Dack Fayden is a mythic though. The set is certainly shaping up to be way, way better than MM2 to be fair. I did love how good the uncommons were in MM1 though (Kitchen Finks, Spell Snare, Lightning Helix, Path to Exile etc). I hope there are some good ones here. Would love to see some great uncommons actually stay at uncommon.

This card is by no means worthless. Firstly, it is a cube staple, and many people will be happy to get a sweet version with Terese Nielson art. Secondly, this will be the first time this card is printed in foil, which will make a lot of cube owners happy.

Sure, value wise it sucks to get this at rare, but there are people who want this card, unlike Enrek Sahr, Long Forgotten Gohei etc.

Man yeah we are getting some sweet new options for staple cards in this new set. I'll be keen to pick up a new Control Magic for sure. Should be cheap too.
