With the forums closing soon, just want to say this is probably still my favorite deck I've played in EDH. It very well encapsulates a aggressive control style, and the commander is very impactful.
I recently picked it back up after a long hiatus, and just want to say thanks for the work you put into this deck! I'll carry on the legacy of it for awhile.

Popcornpasta posted a message on Mardu PyromancerI'm in the same boat. I still love how the deck plays, but it just doesn't seem well suited for the current meta.Posted in: Midrange
Honestly I think our best case scenario is twin getting unbanned. This would reign-in a lot of the degenerate decks and make the meta more interactive (the kind of meta mardu would thrive in). -

Maybe not, but UB splashing teferi and chromium has been really good for me so far. -

jacobk posted a message on Mono Black AggroPosted in: Deck CreationQuote from ctaylor33 »This deck caught my eye too! Can you talk a little about how you sideboarded?
I'm hardly an expert, but I think I have some reasonable rules of thumb.
What to take out:
Dead Weight: when there are no good targets
Walk the Plank: when there are no good targets
Vicious Conquistador: when the opponent clogs the ground
Ruin Raider: when the opponent comes hard after your life total
You can also shave Ravenous Chupacabra if the opponent looks truly creature free.
What to put in:
Duress: against control decks
Vraska's Contempt: when you need to kill planeswalkers (e.g. against control and BG)
Dread Shade: when you need to replace Orc Bob with a fattie (e.g. against red or white aggro)
Plague Mare: when you need to replace Orc Bob with a chainwhirler effect (e.g. against tokens)
Also, there are a lot of merfolk running around these days in mono-blue and in BG. Some number (maybe all) of the Walk the Plank should probably become Cast Down. -

User ripple182 took this list to a 5-0 finish in a competitive league:
I thought it looked fun so I tried it out and had the easiest 5-0 in a friendly league that I've ever experienced. I played against Mono-U tempo (2-0), Mono-U tempo (2-0), Izzet Control (2-1), Esper Control (2-1), and mono-red goblins (2-0). This deck gets out of the gate quickly, gets a ton of value out of its creatures, and then starts pulling value from the graveyard once creatures start to die. Having access to just a little bit of hand disruption with the freebooters is also terrific.
It's always nice to get some mileage out of the old basic swamps. -

JonInWherever posted a message on [GRN] Esper ControlWith a quite a few decks posting 5-0s or doing well in PTQs and SCG events in the past week, I grabbed all the lists and compiled an aggregate list. For those unfamiliar with this, it's basically an "average" deck list, but weighted a little differently. It's not surprising that it's a Frank Karsten method... Instead of averaging the total number of cards in a deck (e.g. deck 1 plays 4 Teferi, deck 2 plays 3 = average is 3.5 Teferi), it gives each card its own value (so in the example, you'd be getting 3 Teferi plus some other common card).Posted in: Established (Standard)
Aggregate list using 8 reported decks since 4 OctMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards Creatures (1)

Using Evolving Wilds and Field of Ruin as fetches, the mana base gives 18.5U/17.5B/11.5W, which according to Karsten's article this week, is just enough to cover the T3 UU (18 recommended), T4 BB (16 recommended), and plenty for Teferi (10W and 10U needed). Interestingly, 12 sources is the number needed to get 90% to cast a 3CC spell, so this mana base is borderline good for a Cleansing Nova or two, and 80% for a Settle, and that's before you count the reduction from Surveil and card draw... -

BadMcFadden posted a message on Modern Esper Draw-GoSo just in terms of moving on to sfa, jtms and thoughtseize - isnt this sliding down the slope away from "draw go" control? Isnt the definition of the deck playing entirely or almost entirely at instant speed? Supreme verdicts have always been a necessary evil in that regard, but as you add 6 more additional sorcery speed cards (walkers, enchants) you creep up to where a third of your spells are now sorcery speed. At some point you might as well just embrace it and add tasigurs and lingering souls - no?Posted in: Control - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Abzan Company 2-0 (don't think he knew what he was doing)
Death's Shadow Jund 2-0 (he called my deck an anti DS deck)
Affinity 2-1 (Stony Silence did work)
GR Tron 2-0 (Stony Silence once again did work)
My list differs from Chipper by only one card MB and several SB. I copied it from this person:
https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/664307#paper
I can't bring myself to play less than two Revs, which kept me from playing Chipper's MB 60. And I like this SB a little more than Chipper's.
All-stars for the night:
Gideon of the Trials - much better than I thought he would be
Stony Silence - shut down two decks
Ceremonious Rejection - was clutch against Tron; countered a Karn and big Walking Ballista (snapped it back).
Rest in Peace - neutered the Jund DS deck
Jace, Architect of Thought - did some serious digging in the Tron match, which was actually the "finals." Two Jaces felt great because I exhausted one over two turns and then dropped the second.
Anyway, the deck was a blast to play, although my opponents were not very happy, especially the Tron guy. I didn't let him play with any of his shiny toys.

Hi Moontime. I saw your Merfolk list on mtggoldfish. I liked how creative it was with Triton Shorestalker and Merfolk Sovereign. How have those two cards been for you?
