A New and Exciting Beginning

Ehh I wouldn't get too excited about this (yet). Mayor of Avabruck (which you referenced) does indeed flip during your opponent's upkeep, but you dont get Wolf tokens til your own end step, meaning it has to last the whole turn during which you have no control over how many spells are played.

It is true that if better werewolves are spoiled we could be looking at a handy little tool for a relatively inactive (spell-casting wise) deck, but as the lineup currently stands, I don't see too much to get excited over.

If this set offers anything to Pod I'd suggest Hollowhenge Scavenger, to help aleviate the Phybrid mana you're bound to be paying.

  • posted a message on So, let's talk about BGW Glissa Pod.
I really really wanna try this post-rotation, as I happen to have a good number of the goodstuffs this deck utilizes. (Just one quick note, GSZ only fetches green creatures so Sun Titan is a no-go. Unless you plan on running Primeval, which I think is silly for a deck that's all about cheating creatures in.)

So anyways, I've been toying with whether or not to throw Glissa in, as I don't currently have one and would need to find one, but also because she seems kinda meh. 3 is an awkward number for Pod, and personally I'd go for Blade Splicer most days of the week over Glissa. Glissa's really nice for when you're missing a Pod or Vat, which you should run, but the Splicer sacs to continue the chain while leaving a 3/3 body (which can be sac'd for a Birds if you need the mana. Glissa is kind of an "end of the line;" she's nice to have late game when your sac-chains get to the point of utility rather than racing for Norn, but most of the time I'm gonna want to sac my Splicer immediately for that Simulacrum. Plus, Glissa's not exactly something you're going to be wanting to get rid of - every creature up until the last 1 or 2 links in your chain should benefit from dying, because it's what you have to do to win.

Thus we get to the problem - Is black really that great with Pod? Looking at my preliminary idea, I have a whopping 3 black creatures: Sheoldred, the Whispering One (for recurs-y lulz), Grave Titan (again for the inheritance of 2 2/2s and because I have one lying around), and Entomber Exarch, which I agree should be replaced. (I haven't added Glissa due to the above issues with her.)

So I've reached the possibility of parting with black for a possibly more suitable color (maybe blue for responses). Not that you should, but something to consider.

Note that I'm intending for my deck to be post-RoE.

What benefits do you think black lends to Pod? I'm willing to be convinced, because I wanna get this Grave Titan out of my trade binder.

wouldn't he cost 0 every time?

Nope. Rooftop and its likes only ever replace the mana cost of cards, not additional costs as dictated by other abilities (or game rules).

Oh my god.... Someone HAS to do an alter with William Shatner on the Noble. XD

Rooftop Storm looks pretty cool, too. Depending on the Zombies we get, might actually be limited-worthy, but I'm pretty sure (as stated before) a T6 Wurmcoil/any Titan is better than casting this, and then the 2 Zombies you were saving and could have played the last 3 turns, because it's turn 6 and you don't really have much of a hand anymore.

So yeah. EDH finds it great, I'm sure. Thraximundar turn 6? And then recasting for only 2 (+2[n-1]) whenever he dies? Sounds like fun to me.

    Stitcher's Apprentice + Genesis Chamber

Eh, no. Genesis Chamber says nontoken creature to avoid an infinite loop of Myr. (Myrs? Myri? w.e.) So unfortunately that won't fly.

Otherwise, a cute little card that makes me wanna try a UB EDH with a board manipulation subtheme via tokens in Intruder Alarm (as you mentioned) and Grave Pact (as someone else mentioned), and the new demon guy 4tehlulz. Maybe I should make it UBR and add Mana Echoes to make Stitch's cost more efficient...

    I smell a Johnny cooking. =D

Quick note on Vengeful Primus; wouldn't this create an unending loop? Basically, "Whenever A happens, then do A." This should deal infinite damage to each creature (as long as they both have 1 power) and make an infinite number of triggers sans a kill spell/counter to the ability. This is because, even if one of the creatures attains enough damage to die, the whiny "he dealt damage to me!" ability will still trigger while both are on the field. =\ I'm pretty sure this one should be thought out a bit more.

On a side note, I do love where that's going. Maybe just add some clause about "enough damage for one to be destroyed."

Steamflogger Boss - Where to begin? Again, this card lives either in fame or in infamy, beloved or bemoaned, depending on which side of the fence you stand on. But no one is indifferent about this card. His rules text includes an action that has no meaning whatsoever in the game of Magic: The Gathering, a "new" type of artifact that doesn't do anything, and buffs creatures of a type that doesn't exist. On top of this, he is constantly touted as a "joke card" by wizards that in hindsight they REGRET MAKING. Since its printing, not a rumor season has gone by without someone suggesting "this will be the rigger set!" So what if he's a Hill Giant that makes other Hill Giants stronger? He's definitely one of the most famous bad cards in history.

Sorry, just had to pipe in. Moriok Rigger has been changed to have "Rigger" as a creature type in its Oracle text. So, technically, it has a slight use.

But I'd still advocate for Steamflogger Boss to be added to this list. I mean, the Power 9 is all about cards that are RIDICULOUSLY good. Here's a lord that boosts 1 non-Changeling card and affects an action that doesn't exist. x/0, anyone? If only 4tehlulz, add 'im. =D

    Ha this is pretty funny.

First off, I think this is a great concept, as Flip cards added dimension to the scene back in Kamigawa, and Transformers will do the same here.

Second off, the ONLY argument I've skimmed across (because I don't want to pay close attention to Radiozero griping every other post with "this is teribad") is that it's "lame."

...Seriously?? Are you a five year old who now has to get himself breakfast instead of being served? Put the darn proxy in a sleeve, keep a pile of Transformers close at hand, and the unsleeved-ness of the cards will remove the problem of flipping a sleeved card.

Sure, drafting has a new dimension now. Ok, so they might see your pick. Deal with it. If it's that big a deal, then just get in the habit of covering up the card you pick, and placing each new card on the bottom of your pile (with your land [or proxy] on top).

As for "Wy n0t br1ng b4ck FLIP w0TCCCC??" it's kinda simple. For a good amount of players, Flip leaves a bad taste in their mouths. It was inventive and dimensional, but not generally well-received. Now Wizards is releasing a similar (almost identical) ability, and I can't blame them from distancing it from association with crazy Great-Uncle Flip. The two-sidedness is fresh and (I think) more exciting to flip than going 180 degrees in Kamigawa. (Just imagine having the new Garruk out and slowly tipping him, shouting "BAM" when he topples to his BAMPH other side.)

Of course now that I've said that Garruk 3.0 and 3.5 will end up being wusses. But w.e.

/Summary: Don't knock it 'til you try it. And don't do so multiple times.

There seems to be some miscommunication with Riku and his interaction with Storm... He copies a spell, and unless I'm mistaken, you don't cast a copied spell, so that copy's instance of "Storm" is never triggered. So if I were to copy a Dragonstorm with 2 other copies, I'd still only get 4 Dragonstorms to resolve. This is the same for the aforementioned Mind's Desire into another card with Storm.

If I am wrong about this, though, someone tell me, as I'd love to make a Storm-Riku build with RUG good-stuff creatures as support. =D

Other than that little discrepancy, I like Praetor's Counsel. I'm feeling that I'm gonna need a lot more mana for this deck, though... Ah well. Genesis Wave seems great, and I'll add those protection pieces for Riku. Unfortunately, I'm planning on moving the Sol Ring I'll be getting into my Sharuum deck cuz it works better there.

    Quote from "Trancer99" »
I have been pondering how sick Mind's Desire could get with this guy (loading the top 3 cards with Brainstorm or using Sylvan Library to know when, or even worse, a 10-15 mana Genesis Wave copied.... oh my!

Also... Mind's Desire shuffles your library to avoid just what you intend. =P

Hey, guys. So with the upcoming release of the Commander Decks, I definitely wanted to make a new EDH deck. Once I found my current Stonebrow, Krosan Hero deck not quite up to par with my meta, I decided that I would switch it out with one of the two new RUG legendaries. When Animar was spoiled, I fell absolutely in love. Visions of Palinchrons, Cloustone Curios, and Shimmer Myr with Artifact Creatures danced through my head, and I thought I was sold. Then, however, Riku happened.

Riku, in my opinion, is more versatile than Animar. Firstly, his abilities remain relevant all game, while an Animar with +20/+20 is just as good as an Animar with +30/+30. Secondly, he doesn't limit me to a creature-based gameplan. This may be a negative, though, as my current Stonebrow build is highly creature-oriented as it is. But I'm willing to dip deeper into non-Creatures to get the most out of the Two Reflections.

So there it is. Here's my current Stonebrow list. What would I need to add/remove to make it worthy of Riku??

I'm also on a bit of a budget, so I won't easily be able to find high-end cards. I'll be preordering the RUG Commander Deck, so I'll have a Sol Ring and Lightning Greaves if they belong in the new deck. I currently also have, and plan to put into the new deck, Rite of Replication and a Sphinx of Magosi.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Oh and I also have a Gilded Drake I could move into Riku if it's deemed useful.

  • posted a message on Green Planeswalker in Innistrad?
Something tells me we won't be seeing the Garruk reprint just yet... First off, we're getting a new Lily after she goes missing from the Core Set, making it look like she was too busy with the events of Innistrad to show up for rehearsals, and WotC had to make due with that goth kid sitting by the back door rocking back and forth. So WotC, out of spite for Lily, hire the creep and give her the boot, and she just focuses more on her current endeavors in Innistrad.

Garruk, however, is wild, but faithful, and doesn't want the same to happen to him. So he cuts his next contract to devote more time to the Core Set.

But seriously, the way I see it, Gideon took Ajani's place after he was mentioned in the Scars comics (thus, he was occupied at the story-line interval of the Core Set) and the same is happening with Innistrad and Lily. Just imagine M12, the Mirrodin-Phyrexian War, and whatever Innistrad has going on for it happening all at the same time.

Also, the Duels of the Planeswalker preview deck had the UG Merfolk chick, who's been confirmed as a PW (there's a thread in Speculation), and I'm guessing she'll be UG, which would make a second Green Walker in Garruk less likely.

Lastly, I think of the PWs with reprints, they all either seem meh or their 2.0s were meh. Garruk's been a force his whole existence, and I'm not sure WotC wants to crowd his spot with a 2.0.

All my own 2 cents, of course.

I can't find the thread now, (might be that Imma lazy...) but wasn't there a new art of Chandra released? Has anyone checked to see if the sides of that image match up with this "new" Chandra card? But yeah, Garruk and Jace also look newish. Unfortunately, Sorin seems pretty similar, and we can be almost 100% sure Gideon isn't getting a revamp...

That would not work. For a card to be labeled as an "Imprinted" card, it needs to remain exiled under the specific card's ability. Plus, depending on the nuances you use for Commander Zone entrances, you can argue that a Commander never even reaches Exile when targeted. Yes, this is a six cmc removal spell, but it wouldn't prevent you from recasting your general.

Quick question: How do Rings of Brighthearth and Basalt Monolith combo together? Rings clearly states non-mana ability, which is what Monolith's ability is. Otherwise, interesting take on Sharuum.
