we actually had this discussion last night, about Omnath and other mono-green generals. A new player had put together and EDH deck (Mono green Omnath, suprisingly good for his first real EDH deck). The general consensus of Omnath in our local games is that if you play that general, the entire table is already loading up and waiting to kill him. Basically, if you play Omnath locally, it's almost like playing Arcum: just by your choice of general, you've put a huge bulls-eye on your forehead. (One other guy had an omnath deck and has thoroughly proven how stupidly powerful it is)
Azusa, on the other hand, is pretty 'mild' and doesn't usually immediately draw hate/counter measures.
Frepaz: I do not own a single rare land to support U/G mana bases. No fetches, no shock lands... nothing. It'd be an incredibly clunky mana base, and by necessity probably 80% basic lands. I love the idea of Momir Vig, but at the moment I don;t have cards to support blue/green at all mana wise, and I can't afford to drop cash on $10+ cards for something I play 1-2 times a week Plus, I'm not sure I have a Momir vig in my collection atm, and I **JUST** traded for an Azusa last night.
Just like a couple of my decks in the past, this might morph over time into a different general and similar concept, but for now I'm mono green.
I use it to great success in my Treva 'enchantress' deck. It's probably one of the best sweepers I could ever ask for in that setup. And even when it's not being made lopsided by your auras, it's still a wrath for one more.
I appreciate the thought Shmo40, but the reason I'm going mono-colored is that my 6+ EDH decks have stretched my non-basic land collection to it's limits already. Yes, Mayael is awesome.... severely awesome. But I'm not sure I can get an even halfway decent budget manabase for another tri-color deck atm.
For all the card suggestions of how to abuse this deck idea, I thank you all.... even though I was really asking about the general. Most of these cards I had already thought of and/or own.. but a few I do not. Timesifter? An amazing suggestion... though it does exile cards so eventually I'd run out of the real expensive drops I was using to keep control of the turns
Asuza, for budgetary reasons, is probably the way to go. I can use my top deck setting cards to feed extra lands into play, speeding up (hopefully!) the whole process.
an overview of cards I plan to use:
The 'Cheater' cards
Call of the wild
Lurking Predators
Zoologist
Elvish piper
quicksilver amulet
Defense of the heart (if I can find one)
the 'setup' cards
Scroll Rack
Cream of the crop
Sylvan Library
Mirri's guile
Sensei's diving top (if I can find one)
cards that just like this idea
Explorer scope
Timesifter (!!!)
Blessings of nature
Revenge of the Hunted
'Clash' cards (though they seem a bit weak overall)
I figured it out, but thanks (didn't see your post until i was done editing in all the '1' )
A lot of what I'm looking for here is if there are cards in the lats 3-4 blocks that would make this deck drastically better, and that aren't expensive money wise.
Hmmm, also, I appear to be missing some cards. Specifically, I remember running disk and o. stone before... *tries to figure out where they went*
I'm thinking it's time to post my core EDH/Commander decks for some constructive criticism once again. For one thing, I've been playing very little and buying even less of the sets for the last year or more, so I'm probbaly missing a lot of new cards!
First up, my Sek'kuar, Deathkeeper deck. It is a pretty standard reanimator/graveyard synergy deck.
since I have those cards (minus sensei's darn it) AND a scroll rack laying about that isn't in a deck yet, I'm leaning more and more toward Asuza. Plus, I'm already using Kamahl as my general for my mono-green token deck and I'd feel silly having the same general for two different decks
edit: although, I have swapped in several other green legends into the Kamahl spot (I once misplaced all my green Kamahl's somehow!) and Verdeloth worked pretty well as a general in that deck, as well as Baru.... *ponder*
I'm thinking on building a mono-green deck focusing as much as possible on top deck manipulation and cheating creatures into play with lurking predators andcall of the wild. Which of the mono colored green generals do you folks think would assist that strategy the most?
There would, obviously, more to the deck then that, but I want a focus on cheating big creatures into play through various means.
I'm also running a Treva, the renewer enchantress build. Not because he's particularly good, but rather because I knew I wanted to G/W/U and he was the only legend I had in those colors.
That's certainly the most unqiue suggestion I've heard. Sadly, mass land destruction is about as well recieved in my group as by most.... IE, not at all.
Oros actually got built hastily last night before my weekly D&D game. LImited initial testing suggests that
1) I need a lot more creatures (I drew sunforger several times but no body to carry it)
2) better in multi then single player
Ill do some revisions and see if I can post a list soon

amusingly enough, I bought two Birthing Pods just the other day.
MMM now I just need to consider the creature base and I'll be close to ready to get a list up

okay, now that I seem to have the darn deck tag figured out....
I think overall this is one of my best decks. I play it a lot, and it has a lot of decently powerful cards that interact well with each other.
Cards that I don't have but that I want in here (and probably can never afford or would be very hard to find locally!):
Sneak Attack is the most obvious candidate. Sensei's divining top is another. Defense of the Heart.
Cards I have and/or have been used in the deck before and taken out for various reasons
Bane of the Living
Kagemaro, first to suffer
Krovikan Horror
Squee
Demonic Collusion

I Play real paper cards, not mtgo. I doubt even my fairly laid back Commander group would let me proxy a general.
From a search I did this morning of green legendaries:
Asuza, lost but seeking: land ramp is good I suppose.
Reki, the history of Kamigawa: could be interesting if I build in enough legends, but feels more like something for a Sisay deck.
Yeva, of course, would work. And she's cheap $$$ wise right now.
Myojin of Life's Web: I would assume this ability does not work when 'cast' from the command zone? IE no divinity counters?
There would, obviously, more to the deck then that, but I want a focus on cheating big creatures into play through various means.
I tend to use Retether to back up my replenish quite a bit, but I lean much more towards powerful Aura/Pumps like Ancestral Mask, Auramancer's Guise, and Empyrial Armor
But arcum is all about a 1 on 1 lock down as fast as possible.
