We have two gay men at my LGS. One of them I've been good friends with for four years. Neither gets any flak for it and are very accepted and welcome. Their sexual orientation seems to bother no one. I love my LGS.

The whole "backseat moderating" thing is weird. Like I know for awhile it wasn't tolerated, but like in the same vein, if you did it juuuuuuust right. It seemed like you could manage to not only avoid infractions but actually earn the favour of the mods and up your chances of becoming one.

Yeah I saw many examples of that myself. I'm glad it has changed now though so that users can offer help to each other without worry of infraction.

I think that Aeon-Phoenix is trying to say that opinion can change over time.

I understood what he was getting at. It seemed that he was more upset that he was atheist than anything else though. If his question was "How do I tell my parents I'm Christian/Muslim/Hindu" then I doubt he would tell him that he was too young to make that decision.

    Quote from trollwarrior_666
15 or 22 is still rather young to get stuck in a certain set of ideas on religion.

What age then is it ok to decide what it is you believe? 30? 40? 80? Some people never get a choice. They're raised from birth with a certain set of beliefs, then immersed in that community for most of their lives. Life experiences can make us mature faster than others. It isn't for anyone else to decide if the personal reasons for your beliefs have merit.

That was back from '05.... but it goes to show that infractions and warnings dont stop you from being a mod/global/admin.

Wow! I had no idea. That's certainly reassuring. Thank you.

So when I was a newer member of the forum I was infracted a few times for Backseat modding. Now that the rules are a little different, is there any way that those could be removed? It doesn't really bother me, it's just that I may like to apply for a mod position one day.

I know I could have PM'd an admin for this, but I'm posting it here in case others have a similar issue.

    When you're 22, a fart is liberating.

    play nice

This statement certainly showcases your level of maturity.

    Quote from Aeon-Phoenix

The very fact that the OP states, "For my advanced English class, we're supposed to write a 8-10 page paper on a conspiracy, and I really, really want to do Christianity." indicates that this is a matter of adolescent rebellion fueled by resentment, not a matter of academic atheism.

I can agree here. The OP seems a little angry and many people have already pointed out that doing the project on this subject would be a bad idea.

    Quote from Aeon-Phoenix
The OP is not an atheist, he is a young man who feels subjugated by his family's faith and is striving to establish an independent identity so as to assert himself as an individual.

It's true the OP may be trying to find his own identity, but there is no way you could possibly know whether he is atheist or not. It's simply your opinion and you've stated it as fact.

    Quote from Aeon-Phoenix
Rejecting a religion contrived by man that one finds objectionable? Normal; perhaps even healthy.
Outright rejecting the premise of a divine universal power as a conviction to forge independent identity? Confusion and youthful angst.

Again, you have no idea about the reasons behind the OP's atheism. There are people much older who also reject the idea of divine universal power, why can't a young man?

    Quote from Aeon-Phoenix
Anyone who simultaneously understands and condones what's really going on here is a sad, hollow, spiritually bankrupt person who yearns for more sad, hollow, spiritually bankrupt people to join their ranks.

I feel like I understand what's going on here. The OP is a young man trying to find his place in the world. He also happens to be atheist. When I first rejected religious belief, I too did so with fire in my heart. Perhaps a little too much. I'm am not sad or hollow (not sure what "spiritually bankrupt" means) and I do not wish for the OP to be either. I do support him however.

    Quote from Aeon-Phoenix
Feel free to believe in the strange proposition that this universe originated in a cipher and aimlessly rushes nowhere, I won't stand in your way. But until you do some real research I wouldn't expect any comfortable conclusions to this endeavor; an endeavor that is all too clearly prompted by an undercurrent of disdain.

Now your true colors show. You have some sort of divine belief and you feel like non-believers support a ridiculous position. You say that this endeavor has an undercurrent of disdain. I wonder why that would be? I believe I could use your posts for reference.

So wait, you're fifteen and you're decidedly atheist?

Sounds like you are throwing the baby out with the bathwater here. So you don't like your family's faith and you want to assert your independence and change your ideological identity. That's fine, and a very common thing to do when coming of age. But to flat out reject all possibilities of an intelligent higher power and thus alienate yourself from the potential of experiencing spiritual growth just because you find the faith of your upbringing objectionable is decidedly brash. You don't have to wear an atheist label anymore than you have to wear a religious label. I suggest you take the middle road and refrain from such stark and emphatic absolutes until you mature a little and find out who you really are.

    Just sayin.

I became atheist at 15 and have never looked back. It was the most liberating experience of my life. I'm 22 now.

I bought a Playstation Vita last week, and am lacking in the friends department. I don't own a PS3 so I have zero friends on PSN (SEN). My username is Theismisacrime. If you want to friend me just send a request. We can play some UMvC3 or chat it up. Thanks! Smile

  • posted a message on Why I dislike most feminists
Feminism falls under two main categories. Symmetrical and Asymmetrical. Symmetrical feminists believing in complete and utter equality with no difference in treatment between males and females. Asymmetrical feminists, on the other hand, believe that the real differences between men and women should be taken into account during legislative action, as well as in making up for past discrimination.

I fall into the latter group, as do many other feminists. There are real differences between men and women, and as such they should be treated differently. Since gender is not a suspect classification, cases of discrimination against women are extremely difficult to win. In most cases, the burden of proof lies with the plaintiff instead of the government, and only in cases involving an outdated stereotype does the plaintiff receive intermediate scrutiny.

There is no doubt that women are discriminated against in this country, and we should all be working together, regardless of gender, to correct this injustice.

Stuff like this infuriates me. I'm honestly tempted to not buy the game at all on, based purely on principle. Ugh. This is literally just spitting in the face of most of your customer base.

It's not really Beth's fault. They're a business and they want to make money. If anything blame Sony for not being competitive about it.
