Get in touch with people who are going and prepare with them over Skype or something. Do not prepare with online fake (non-MTGO) drafts with idiots on Cockatrice. You'll thoroughly embarrass yourself at the pro tour.
When I'm playtesting legacy with friends I break graveyard order all the time. I play Reanimator and Aggro Loam, and especially with Loam it's a pain in the ass to dig through my yard to find my lands/punishing fires/creatures every 2 seconds.
Pandemonium Books and Games (Cambridge, MA)
1) Good community of competent players with decent personal hygiene and who are generally pleasant to be around.
2) Prize payouts in store credit rather than packs.
3) Tournaments for all non-vintage formats (Monday legacy/draft, Tuesday sealed, Wednesday standard, FNM standard/draft, Sunday modern)
4) Discounted in-store side drafts.
5) Convenient location for people who don't drive in Boston such as myself (on a corner with a major bus stop and red line T station).
I'll lend $5-10 cards out to randoms for events as long as they don't seem super sketchy, and for friends I'll lend whatever they need. I lent ~$1500 in cards out this weekend (4 Goyfs to a friend PTQing, and my full Reanimator deck for another friend going to GP Indy). Maybe I'm too trusting, but being nice has its own rewards in addition to people repaying the favor at some point.
Aaron Forsythe will be doing one soon as well. Now THAT'S one I'm interested in reading. I guess I'm a bit jaded with AMA's though. So many people just ask questions that are either really goofy just so they can get a reply or stuff that anyone can find an answer to by just googling.

If you're not going for black borders, just get Revised. I don't understand the unlimited craze some people have. The colors are a bit nicer, but for just a little more than that you can get FBB.
Nope. I think I'm actively making myself a worse player every time I read the boards about sanctioned formats. There are some really bad players on these boards (not naming names, but there are quite a few). I do enjoy the general MTG discussion and EDH boards here though.
If you expected a shameless forum pat on the back thread... welp, sorry.
