Mar 17, 2014spooky posted a message on Casual Castle: Nemesis of MortalsI had not thought about red at all actually, but there are some interesting options there. Fling is one, but Faithless looting looks more promising. Also, there are a few cards in black that are very similar to fling.Posted in: Articles

Mar 17, 2014spooky posted a message on Casual Castle: Nemesis of MortalsGrave Troll is certainly an option, as he could both be cast as big creature, or fill up the yard for you. I'm wondering what would get replaced though?Posted in: Articles

Mar 17, 2014spooky posted a message on Casual Castle: Nemesis of MortalsIf you have the Genesis already you can certainly try it. I think the fact that he costs half the cost of the deck is a bit of a flag for me.Posted in: Articles

Mar 17, 2014spooky posted a message on Casual Castle: Nemesis of MortalsBloodrush as a graveyard filler is pretty cool. Maybe a combination of bloodrush as well as cycling?Posted in: Articles

Mar 17, 2014spooky posted a message on Casual Castle: Nemesis of MortalsCreature only decks sound really cool. I think this deck could actually be insane in such an environment, as you draw many more cards than any of your opponents will.Posted in: Articles
As far as the guttersnipe idea goes, if you wanted to work on a deck together I would love to help. Go ahead and message me some ideas (maybe a list) and I'll see what I can do. -

That mono black list seems pretty decent. I would make some small changes, though. Phyrexian Negator is very bad, especially because Lightning Bolt is very popular right now. He's not the power house he once was, and I would suggest replcing him entirely. Nyxathid, Ashenmoor Gouger, and Dross Harvester are decent replacements in the 3-drop slot. Phyrexian Obliterator, Plague Sliver, Desecration Demon, and Grinning Demon are all fine if you want to move up to a 4 drop slot.
Tombstalker is very good, but 4 is way too many, epseically when you are not running fetchlands. Play 2, and replace the other 2 with something else.
If you want to run Gravecrawler I think you need more zombies. Mayebe use your 2 extra tombstalker slots for Carnophage or Diregraf Ghoul.
I think you are running too much discard. Your deck needs some creature removal besides Spite. Replace 1-4 of the Inquisitions with some combination of Victim of Night and Disfigure.
@ DalekXtrminater
Fluctuator is fun, but I'm not sure if it is reliable/consistent enough, since you need the fluctuator in your opening hand. I will play around with it a bit.
@ LeviatanCL
I have been toying around with Astral Slide and Rifter. I'm not as familiar with the archetype as others, so I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, lol. I'd love to see a list. I could compare it to mine and see what I can make work.
Obliterator vs Percy is a matter of preference. I think Obliterator is better, so that's who I run. It's ultimately up to you which you want to play.
Other cards to consider...
Vitality Charm
Krosan Warchief
Pulse of the Tangle
Wirewood Savage
1 Brimaz, King of Oreskos
3 Captain of the Watch
3 Daru Warchief
4 Enlistment Officer
4 Ballyrush Banneret
3 Dawnbringer Charioteers
4 Preeminent Captain
4 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
3 Field Marshal
4 Chalice of the Void
4 Chrome Mox
4 Suppression Field
Lands-
4 Ancient Tomb
4 Cavern of Souls
2 Karakas
9 Plains
You also want to run as many copies of the best finishers you can find. Howl of the Nightpack and Wolfbriar Elemental fit a cool wolf theme, so you can use them together if you want. Dungrove Elder, Kalonian Twingrove, Garruk's Horde, and Terra Stomper are all fine, too.
How does a list like this look to you?
4 Elvish Mystic
3 Krosan Tusker
3 Sakura-Tribe Elder
3 Dungrove Elder
2 Llanowar Elves
2 Wolfbriar Elemental
2 Silverglade Elemental
1 Terra Stomper
1 Thragtusk
1 Garruk's Horde
1 Kalonian Twingrove
2 Howl of the Night Pack
2 Evolution Charm
2 Gaea's Touch
3 Gift of the Gargantuan
4 Nature's Lore
4 Skyshroud Claim
20 Forest
The core of the deck is as follows:
Veteran Explorer
Cabal Therapy
Green Sun's Zenith
Dryad Arbor
Everything beyond those are "fillers" in the sense that the deck can run without them. That being said, there are a lot of cards that you probably don't want to leave home without. These are cards like...
Abrupt Decay
Pernicious Deed (Luckily for us, this got reprinted recently, and can be found for much cheaper than it used to be)
Sylvan Library
Scavenging Ooze
Utility is next. There are 2 kinds of fit decks from what I understand: Those that splash white and play swords to plowshares, and those that splash red and play bolt and P.Fire. We can't splash a 3rd color without seriously risking mana issues, but we still need decent low cost removal. Smother is okay, but if we can find something with a lower CMC it would be ideal. Disfigure would probably work fine, and if you construct your creature base accordingly, Innocent Blood could also be great, because you could also use it to trigger Explorer. From here, this is up to you, just know that if you go the blood route your creature base will be affected.
Eternal Witness is used a lot, and I like her potential.
Deathrite Shaman is much worse when you don't have fetchlands, and therefore cannot guarantee that he will give you mana, so I would probably just play 1-2 Birds of Paradise in his place. You can try him out, though.
Finally, we have the finishers. The reasons to play Fit. We are limited to black and green, but lucky for us both colors have a slew of great options. Here are some of my favorites.
Obstinate Baloth
Thragtusk
Grave Titan
Primeval Titan
Thrun, the Last Troll
Garruk, Primal Hunter
Master of the Wild Hunt
all in all, the deck ends up looking like this. You have other options, of course, but this is what I would run.
1 Grave Titan
1 Birds of Paradise
1 Eternal Witness
1 Obstinate Baloth
1 Scavenging Ooze
1 Thrun, the Last Troll
1 Wood Elves
1 Sakura-Tribe Elder
2 Thragtusk
4 Veteran Explorer
1 Garruk, Primal Hunter
1 Recurring Nightmare
4 Abrupt Decay
4 Cabal Therapy
2 Sylvan Library
2 Innocent Blood
3 Pernicious Deed
2 Disfigure
4 Green Sun's Zenith
2 City of Brass
1 Cabal Pit
1 Dryad Arbor
1 Phyrexian Tower
1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
1 Treetop Village
1 Overgrown Tomb
8 Forest
3 Swamp
4 Woodland Cemetery
How does this look to you?
I don't know if he has considered artifact lands, but I'm also not sure if they are worth the risk. The deck is very mana intensive, and having a land blown up by artifact removal can hurt. You can't always guarantee a Crucible, either.
Mindslaver is a great idea. The only negative I can see for it is that it doesn't actually end the game, and it has a high mana cost, but I guess it would get a lot more concessions.
Wurmcoil Engine has been considered, and I like it, but we decided on batterskull because it has vigilence, costs less to play, and can be bounced to get around hate.
Which etb/die artifacts did you have in mind? I was thinking about Scuttling Doom Engine as a finisher earlier, but I don't know how strong it would actually be...
I see you have some decent stuff for a deck like this already. You wolf elemental gives you a decent mana dump, and if you end up running the howl it would fit a theme. The dungrove elder would be very strong here, and Terra Stomper is one of the best cheap fatties you can find.
How does all of this sound to you?
Threshold was a big one back in the day, too.
Also, I'm not sure there is any reason not to run wasteland in this deck. It gets you a 5/5 and hits opposing mana.
