The story of Urza's Staff found by Balthor is in the SECRETS OF MAGIC anthology. I do not recall the name of the story, but it's in the Invasion section (I believe the book was sectioned by time periods). Balthor finds Urza staff on a battlefield and fights off some other Phyrexians if I'm not mistaken. Either way, it is presented in a short story--by Will McDermott if I am not mistaken.

Squee's resurrection ability may have been a test by Yawgmoth. Remember, we hadn't seen Yawgmoth use black mana before the time of the Invasion. In the old Battlemage game, Leshrac was searching for the Spells of Mirage to aid the Phyrexians. I had personally interpreted that meaning that Yawgmoth eventually gained knowledge of black mana and began playing around (with souls and mudmen). Squee may have been one of those experiments. Also, there may have been a point in Masques where Squee was taken by Phyrexians? I remember someone bringing this possibility up a long while ago, that in MERCADIAN MASQUES Squee was taken, and the book suggested something happened to him--because he doesn't start dying and resurrecting until after them. It may even have been something Volrath did. Remember--Vuel was granted shapeshifting powers, perhaps Squee's ability is also Phyrexian-related; a back-fired plan by the Ineffable.

    Scott,

I didn't mean to plant a fish-hook! I also did not meant to bash TORMENT/JUDGMENT, but I used it as a reference (I would also cite the different dates used to place the Primevals used in PLANESHIFT and the ONSLAUGHT trilogy, but that was the same author). I do apologize for citing the authors--I thought that perhaps you would have had more contact, and not just the editor.

So, in this new trilogy, you three have chatted at the outset, the editor is ready to compile all three books, and you each work on the pieces . . . simultaneously?

I was just asking for clarification on the process of a multi-author trilogy, and you did so. Thanks!

Scott, I have a question in regards to the Author Summit.

As we have seen in the past, there have been inter-author miscommunications (such as the end of ODYSSEY and the beginning of TORMENT).

Has communication between the authors changed at all? Are you able to contact them throughout your writing to compare character development, plot progression, etc? I know the story is planned at the Summit, but I would imagine questions arise. Have you been in touch with the others since the Summit? Are you allowed to? Do you need to?

If you are allowed to answer these questions regarding the writing process--thanks!

To my recollection, Ur-Drago fought against Greensleeves in the third Greensleeves novel, FINAL SACRIFICE. There seems to be no continuity relation between this Ur-Drago and the one found in the Jedit Trilogy, thought I'm sure some legend-spinning could fix that.

Time Spiral would, to me, indicate a return of Teferi on Dominaria--we finally get to see the devastation his return will cause? That was what the author call asked for, a post-apocalyptic Dominaria . . . so perhaps we are returning home? I look forward to what that will bring--I'll admit, I haven't read a Magic novel since the second book of the Kamigawa block (not because it was bad--if anyone recall, Ix and I theorized to no end!--but because of my schedule).

Maybe with a return to Dominaria I may be able to squeeze some reading in?

Of course, this is all rhetorical here, and does not require an asnwer, since you can't give any, Scott. But thanks for whetting my appetite!

    I'll see everyone around!

Hello all. Favorite book? I would have to go with the classic BROTHERS' WAR. While reading it the first time, RATH AND STORM was great because it provided some greater continuity to the sets, and Urza appeared (but it's merit lies in the context in which was was presented. Looking back, it's only moderately entertaining.).

Hopefully this doesn't count as a spam post, but I just wanted to say: VestDan, you're imagined reinactment of WotC, Moore, and King was far too hilarious for me to NOT say anything.

I hope all is well in Storyland. I do hope to add some more information to the Wiki with my prerevisionist material--much of which VestDan was motivated enough to post as beginning stubs.

I am more busy than usual this week and next with my job, and so it will not be within the next two weeks. Hopefully soon after. And thanks again for the complements!

I have not bought/read SAVIORS. It's on my to-do list, and I hope to get some more time to do so in the somewhat near future.

Jamuraa, if I recall, is still north of Dominaria's equator (so Aerona is further north). Maybe that would help to explain SOME of it? So it's still "just" the northern quadrant. Check Phyrexia.com for more maps (like the Dominarian globe).

I am also confused on the overlay. Yes, certain areas "phased" in (not to be confused with Teferi's magic), but I don't think Rath fully transferred, did it? I believe that was the original intention, meaning that Rath would be gone, since it'd be ON Dominaria. And that is the general consensus, right? However, there is NO flowstone on Dominaria as I recall . . . hmm . . . or maybe Crovax did have some fun it with--I cannot recall now. Either way, Crovax should have been able to just send flowstone all over the place to kill Dominarians, but flowstone was nowhere to be seen--or at least didn't do anything it should have. So maybe only the certain locations overlaid on predetermined spots on Dominaria, despite distance.

I am not familiar with how Terisiare split after the Flood Ages (after the ice melted due to the Worldspell), so the River Kor may very well have been lost.

We also must keep in mind that, at the creation of the Weatherlight Saga, continuity was very well put together. They could have referenced old Terisiare. I do not have the comics with me, but if my memory serves me, there was a mention of Korliss (with two s's)--I don't know about Kor.

So while it may be possible (we get an account of people missing from Aerona due to Davvol, don't we?) seeing as the Rathis are from Dominaria, we have no evidence strongly in either direction (unless we discover if the River Kor and Plains of Kor were lost after the Ice Age).

Loot: What do you mean when you say fanfiction will not be allowed? By who? WotC? As far as I know, they don't recognize fanfiction anyway, which is the idea of fanfiction . . .

The river Kor also appears in THE BROTHERS' WAR, when Urza and Mishra meet at Korlis, I believe. I know that it is mentioned in BROTHERS', though. And, so long as Urza made that quote, my recollection as to its location in Grubb's novel should hold true. It was at Korlis where the war began if I recall.

As for the connection between the river and plains of Kor and the people of Rath, we have little evidence except for the ones you made. So, it is possible.

    Great work again, VestDan.

ThornThallid: Thanks for the props for my MIRAGE work. For those interested: Soonish, there will be weekly postings of chapters from my MIRAGE fan-fiction here at Salvation. It is somewhere at 'News, but I would suggest waiting until it is posted here so you can start easily from the beginning. There'll be more news on this as time nears to the first posting.

Sorry to steal your limelight, VestDan! (To make up for it . . . go read ALL of VestDan's original work, PIECES OF EIGHT, as linked in his signature. You will not be disappointed!)

I was not under the impression that it was a fan-fiction page. If you go to the main Legendology HQ board, you can find the press release, which reads:

    LEGENDS COME ALIVE WITH LEGENDOLOGY
Wizards of the Coast Set to Debut New Literary Adventure this August

August 10, 2005 (Renton, Wash.) – Coming this month Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS), presents LEGENDOLOGY ™ (legendology.com), a new media venture designed to chronicle and expand the iconic worlds of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS ®, MAGIC: THE GATHERING ®, HECATOMB ™ and more. The newly launching cyberzine from the world leader in hobby gaming will debut with short fiction from some of Wizards’ classic game settings, plus the groundbreaking new world of IRREVERENTS ™. Penned by veteran writers such as Ed Greenwood, the stories will be illustrated with originally commissioned and vintage art, taking form in 16,000-word, serially published, novelettes.

“LEGENDOLOGY will provide a home for classic tales and new traditions in the rich storylines that form the basis for Wizards’ iconic game worlds,” said Andrew Finch, Director of New Business R&D at Wizards of the Coast. “As well, it will allow us to ‘test the waters’ with new universes, permitting fans a first-of-its-kind sneak peak into the creative process.”

Wizards of the Coast is no stranger to cutting-edge speculative fiction. The company’s book division has published over thirty New York Times bestsellers while Wizards’ iconic magazine Amazing Stories has, during its eighty year history, featured the likes of Edgar Allen Poe, H.G. Wells, Jules Verne and countless others. LEGENDOLOGY will capitalize on this rich tradition by providing a continually expanding repository of new story concepts and artwork for Wizards of the Coast’s iconic phantasmagory.

“Themes of the fantastic have a special resonance right now, reflected in the popularity of multi-platform entertainment properties such as The Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia,” noted Finch. “LEGENDOLOGY will help us capture the hearts and minds of new readers.”

So, it sounds to me like they will be canon.

VestDan, my comment to you, then, was to get ahold of any contacts in WotC (from your previous submission) and do some official writing--this isn't the open call for authors for major books, but it is another writing venture WotC is planning . . .

This sounds exciting, and let's hope promising!

New short fiction would be great, so long as it doesn't contradict anything we already have (as sometimes happens in the Magic multiverse).

VestDan: Get on this project--go make some phone calls to the Continuity Department!
