Feb 3, 2014TheLovelyLamia posted a message on Launch Giveaway! My favorite magic card is Hellkite Charger. The first time I saw it, I thought it was a really underpowered dragon with a useless ability. I soon learned how amazing haste is on a beefy enough flyer. While his ability has won me very few games, the games it has won have been memorable (including one where I killed three people over the course of two back to back attack steps) and I've won countless more games on the back of having a 5/5 hasty flyer at my disposal. The art is one of the most gorgeous dragons in magic, and I really want to see it make a proud return in a core set some day.Posted in: Announcements

Evoke abilities + hellspark + rockslide elemental? Idk, but hoard of notions would be a reason to add some swamps for sure.
@urweak:
ill go look for cards on gatherer, but im sure theres plenty of mana acceleration plus deck manipulation to set up the combo quickly.
As of right now im on my phone, not the best way of looking up cards or posting decks, so ill put a deck up once i get back home
I do love his card tho, first planeswalker I ever got.
Actually I believe they said that Sarkhan was sent to guard the eye... so possibly we have it wrong and Bolas does not in fact want the Eldrazi free? I dont know... on the one hand, I dont really know what he has to gain from the Eldrazi released, and he would have a lot to lose, seeming as they are probably more powerful than he is. On the other hand, Sarkhan just screwing up is sorta lame... so I dont really know what to think here.
I really hate Bolas for screwing up Sarkhans character... he could have remained semi-neutral, but instead Bolas has to go and enslave him and now he's insane, nice work Mr. Bolas, you wrecked one of my fav characters (me loves dragons = D) good job... I should rip up your card. If you werent a dragon planeswalker, I would...
I think Maxine brought up a good point about Scars of Mirrodin though, in that we could be looking at a set that introduces new Phyrexia... I wonder how a new Phyrexia (or something like it) would impact the storyline in general... but thats a topic for another thread.
Yeah, Bolas is an example of the yugioh rule... meaning he's all powerful, so you automaticly have to start making more all powerful characters, or things like Ajani did, where its basically an all powerful spell to defeat him... You really cant have all powerful characters... and while I liked the flavor of phyrexia... yawgmoth and the whole invasion whatever cycle sort of broke that rule... I'm not a fan of the overpowered old planeswalkers because if they can basically do anything, what's the point? The Eldrazi... ummm, it depends... the fact that they were sealed once using reasonably powered magic (sure, it was prolly extremely complex and all, but its not like the ultimate spell type deal) definately helps.
IF they do appear in Mirrodin, then maybe they will end up turning the place into a new phyrexia, or somehow a new phyrexia is created... out of all the "old school" bad guys, I would like to see return are phyrexia (I love art from the phyrexian cards, sadly I wasnt playing back then) and slivers.
Anyway, lame or not, I still think Bolas is going to be playing some large role in this... perhaps a role not revealed in this set, I dont know, but he's going to be involved somehow.
I want to know more about this Ugin... we know he was a dragon planeswalker adept at colorless magic, but beyond that... unless one of the books I have not read (I don't read many of the books, because my library does not have them) mentions more on him.
I doubt the Eldrazi will be in Mirrodin, but I suspect they could possibly escape Zendikar and vanish to some unknown place in the multiverse, waiting to return in a future set.
But those decks were way out of tune... so starting today I am trimming my decks down to sixty cards each, taking out cards the deck doesnt need, and trying to stay between 24-26 land.
Anyway, heres a decklist of one of them...
Wolfbriar, the Abridged Deck (yup, modded off the WW intro pack)
1x skitter of lizards
2x goblin mountaineer
2x flamekin harbinger (Need 4 of for him... unfortunately i only had two lying around, and none in any other decks... ohwell)
2x smokebraider
2x deathforge shaman (i regret having him in the deck... but he's about the only thing i had lying around...)
2x gnarlid pack
2x borderland ranger
2x leatherback baloth
1x greenweaver druid
1x terastodon
1x wolfbriar elemental (I only have the foil copy from the intro pack, this deck could use 4x him, but i dont rlly wanna buy another three copies of him...)
2x groundswell
2x giant growth
1x explosive vegetation
2x soul's fire
1x obelisk of naya
1x obelisk of bant
2x overrun
1x howl of the night pack (needs more of these for consistancy... but again, dont rlly wanna go out and buy them... yeah, im lazy = /)
1x basilisk collar
1x quest for renewal
1x explore
1x fiery fall (yes, a weird choice, trust me, its only for the landcycling)
2x Vastwood Zendikon
1x rupture spire
1x celestial colonnade
4x terramorphic expanse
2x plains (this deck USED to have both blue and white... still does a bit, so thats why those r in here... might take them out tho)
2x island^
4x mountain
10x forest
Obviously not pro, but its ok (i think) for me taking an intro pack, throwing in whatever else i had, then thinning it out... pretty much thrown together out of random cards that werent in my decks... haha, yeah.... just thought i would share = )

Thanks whoever changed it to the proper format = ) sorry, I forgot.
*sigh* doublepost merged.
you can edit this post to update the decklist if you keep the mod text.

I was actually thinking about going with slivers that either give only very small bonuses or non at all... metallic sliver came to mind, as did plated sliver. I love the dormant sliver idea.
Ok, it also needs a way to prevent combat damage... since we're already going into white with plated sliver, why not have 4x safe passage to prevent the damage done to you by your slivers before you can trade them over with sky swallower?
Yeah, I liked all your input, even the ones saying its not a good idea, because basically, this is a deck that you play against someone you just met or a friend who has never seen the deck just for the "wow, thats a crazy idea" effect.
Also, at the moment, we may be looking at a five color monstrosity (at least for mana curve) so 4x ancient ziggurat probably isent a bad idea...
Anyway, thanks for input so far = )
I was looking on gatherer for slivers and i saw plague sliver... a 5/5 sliver for 2BB that has an effect that makes all slivers deal 1 damage to their controller... hmmm, my first reaction was "this is terrible!" but then I remembered a card I had seen a few old Daily MTG articles on (im a big fan of browsing the archives)
Sky Swallower...
The deck idea is very simple, and i dont even have the rest of the slivers figured out... pretty much the idea is to play plague sliver, then plop down the sky swallower next turn (although the same turn would be preferable if you have that much mana) so that you opponent gets stuck with a bunch of slivers that deal damage to them, if that doesnt finish them off, sky swallower should.
So I'll let others take it from here (heck, maybe this is a very old idea, and i just stumbled upon it after like, a million other people, idk, but just thought i would share it) probably 4x sky swallower, 2x plague sliver 4x homing sliver plus some cards to get sky swallower into your hand (diabolic tutor comes to mind, but maybe something else would be better, idk) plus some small slivers that you can pop out that wont be too powerful (this deck does not want to win via sliver assault) because your opponent will be taking ahold of them (sliver queen for token slivers to get a horde, acidic sliver to kill the queen and itself? just a thought)
Anyway... if anyone would like to expand the deck, or just provide their view on the combo in general, it would be appreciated = )
