Quote from sirpsychosexyI feel like Time Spiral was the last supper of sorts for all the old school players like me who'd been around since the very beginning. It had the return of some of artists from the beginning, had references to the old stuff, was set on dominaria, had a wide variety of artistic styles and had balanced play that was loads of fun. It was awesome.
Then came planeswalkers, and mythic rarity, and ridiculous levels of power creep (especially the creatures), and the ever increasing homogenization of the art, and the constant stream of "premium" sets to get us to buy more crap...and so on...
Very well stated! That summed up my current MtG enthusiasm.
Sure I've purchased a few handfuls of product from every set, but Time Spiral (set & block) was the last one I really invested a lot of money and interest in.

How about what they're actually getting done once they're in office? Which isn't much.
You and highroller seems to be focusing solely on the fact that they're getting elected. Winning the race is like a job interview, it just gets you into a position to do work, which they aren't doing. Republicans lately seem more interested in fighting Obama and spouting rhetoric than actually accomplishing anything of measure.
There's plenty of blame to go around though. I think the majority of us are generally dissatisfied with both parties. I certainly am.

Because EDH/Commander is the most popular singleton format there is and it's required. It's the same reason I only use the cards I open in sealed, or stuff from the most recent sets in standard. Gotta play the format.
And to your second question, it just depends on what I'm trying to do with the deck. You can make a deck that has a theme and fun interactions with the cards that doesn't completely revolve around one card. For example, when I play my Rhyss token deck I generally don't bother to play him past the early game, if at all, and the deck works just fine.
And I stand by my statement, I don't think a deck should only work when it has access to one card. My Kaalia deck relies on the commander more than any deck I've ever made but if she ever got tucked I could still pull out a win because I had enough other ways to cheat dudes in along with good removal and mana ramp.
I just think everything falling to pieces because you can't play one percent of your deck is lazy deck building and lazy playing. Think of a way out of the problem rather than just playing the same card over and over.

Edit: and now that I notice the flavor text, that just takes it to a whole new level. I can't believe they printed that card.

How so? I thought the refs dolled out the penalties pretty evenly. The only big problem I saw was the in the case of the Seattle fumble that SF should have gotten back. But that wasn't bad officiating, that's just a bad NFL rule (the fact that they couldn't review it). And in the end it didn't matter since Seattle didn't score and SF got the ball back anyway.

Seriously though, I don't see how anyone in Hollywood will make this into a watchable movie. I read another article about the same thing and it had a quote from someone working on it who was excited because magic didn't have any sort of strong central narrative.
I'm going on record now as saying this movie is going to suck big huge donkey balls.

How is that worse? Motley Crue was big in the 80's, Nirvana and Soundgarden were in the 90's. Simple math would indicate that Motely Crue would make it to the "classic rock" category before Nirvana and Soundgarden. Your post confuses me.

Can't take this thread seriously at all.
