Currently I am in a bit of a conundrum and would like to groups opinions please.
For a while now I have wanted to build a Commander deck that kinda takes care of it self. For example play a threat and as the game progresses it does it's own thing e.g. Biogenic Ooze, Tendershoot Dryad, Guttersnipe.
I have also found the idea of playing a deck with the proliferate mechanic quite appealing.
In general I would like my decks to be proactive over reactive (have enough of them) and the thought of crashing in with a proliferated creature(s) whilst locking the opponent up/tying up resources does sound good to me (always like decks to make a brutal impression regardless on whether they win or not).
Question is can both of these ideas meld together? If so what colours would I pick. I have considered mono green, Bant and Temur colours. Finding a general that fits both the theme(s) is proving tricky.
Ideally I would like to avoid it being a planeswalker deck (have built this in the past and kinda bored with it)and also avoid atraxa, praetors' voice. Can't think why though.
Anyways any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

May 15, 2019My Maelstrom Wanderer deck is mostly about haste or flash creatures with means to make combat better for me Cyclonic Rift, Berserkers' Onslaught or the combo I look forward to using one day Timbermare and Jace, Ingenious Mind-Mage.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Like yourself I wanted a deck that is focused on getting into the rumble zone and naturally is rewarded if there is a board wipe. Maelstrom Wanderer is there as a decent way to give me a board presence should I loose my creatures.
Other proactive decks I have are Tymaret, the Murder King. Deck focuses on cheap creatures for early damage and then ways to steal opponents creatures and do ghastly things after attacking. All star in the deck is Flayer of the Hatebound and Gravecrawler.
Other deck is my Shanna, Sisay's Legacy which looks to swing in with her while building up a board presence. Last time I played with her I was one turn away from giving my creatures +54+54 (thanks to Overwhelming Stampede with Shanna a 26/26 and having Cultivator of Blades out).
Needless to say the attack had I got to do it would have been wonderful!
So for proactive decks I think picking a commander that can do things early is key or building the deck to do that instead.
Look for ways to getting around mass board wipes and punish players you are being slow.
For example a captain lannery storm voltron style deck could be good fun or Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin which includes pumpspells to help spew out Goblins.
May 9, 2019So the other day was playing a 3 way commander game. My friend targets one of my creatures with the card Provoke.Posted in: Magic Rulings
In response I blink that creature.
Would my friend still draw a card? We scoured the internet for the answer but could not come up with anything concrete. We decided he would not as the spell had lost it's legal target.
However because the card has the 'draw a card' separate from the rest of the text, we did not know if that would impact on how the card would function when it's legal target is lost.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Apr 24, 2019For me conceding is fine as long as it is done under the right circumstances. Conceding because some cast a Bribery or Mind Slaver is just being spiteful (imho). Scooping because someone will hit you for lethal with lifelink creature(s) is again the same.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Apr 16, 2019In a non sanctioned event proxies should be fine. You want to test the deck etc before buying the cards for real.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
However using a fake and then lying about it will not go down well (I would imagine).
As others have said using fakes hurts the game we love. I just personally wouldn't go there.
Feb 13, 2019I really enjoy my URG haste deck. It plays some creature theft, clone type cards, bounce and then a hefty amount of flash or haste creatures. Works well when people play a wrath and you follow it up with something hasty.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
I currently use Yasova Dragonclaw as the commander though am going to try Maelstrom Wanderer as a way to rebuild after the game goes long and my hand is potentially emptied.

territorial dispute comes to mind.Quote from Taleran »That would be an entirely new design space I don't think there is an effect in the game that prevents the playing of lands.
Oh god, why does that come to mind? I don't think I've ever played that card, or seen anyone play it, hell I don't know if any living human has played that card. Yet it came to mind in seconds.
I swear, if I could figure out how wotc made magic cards so easy to remember I'd be able to memorize the library of congress in a week.
I play it in my Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis deck. Wanted a way to break parity (well to a point) and this card fitted the theme of that. Works really well when you have also cast a Realm Razer
Feb 5, 2019Dude_of_Valor posted a message on Which decks do you think have the most staying power in Modern? The Izzet deck with Thing in the Ice and Arclight Phoenix look pretty fun, interesting and very powerful. Drawing cards, having the nuts of hands and the fact it is a competitive UR deck seems sweet.Posted in: Modern
Feb 4, 2019I could do with a URG general that either has haste or does something to creatures with haste for my (you guessed it) haste deck.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Have to admit playing that deck is fun. Rumbling into the red zone while people durdle is quite satisfying. Also after a board wipe you get to swing again as if it's the start of the game.
Feb 4, 2019I've always liked them but depends if you are playing more casual or competitive (with competitive being more strict on what you should/shouldn't play). Having a few or in a purpose built deck such as The Gitrog Monster for example. I wouldn't look to run too many but in a pinch they are essentially another free draw.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Feb 1, 2019The group I play with used to take many hours to finish a game. So we switched it up by deciding that everyone can only attack left or right.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
This means you no who to focus on with attacks but also who to be wary off. Also allows for good commander politics as people may want you to live in order to make sure they live too.
It does screw over some cards which want an empty board to attack into and can skew your deck building but generally we have found it to be more successful in shortening game time.
Lastly creating a combo or playing cards like Insurrection can help speed games along.
Feb 1, 2019To stop aggro consider a pillow fort style deck? You could run it in Jesaki colours and have Numot, the Devastator at the helm.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Also include some golden options such as stony silence to stax against the opponent. The deck can run a variety of really efficient wrath's, card draw, removal etc.
