So, just an idea I'm toying with for a power tournament with prizes for top unpowered decks. This is based on an old Pauper deck I made, and back then it was usually a turn 3-4 win. I'm pretty worried about disruption. I have a decent collection of cards but I'm not sure what to back cover my beatsticks with. This is the basis of the deck, at current standing.
The focus is the Riverfall Mimics+Clout of the Dominus, with a turn 5-6 win max with or without them
So the issues are that I have no idea how Vintage plays. How scared should I be of disruption?? What counters would be best?? Will Shroud be enough for protection or is Vintage full of sweepers??
** Should I run counters or burn?? What counters are good?? Is CMC 1 flooded enough with spells for Mental Misstep to be a good card?? Are there enough instants to run Dispel?? Is the format slow enough I can take Counterflux to battle storm?? Is Storm even a deck??
And, finally; How do you sideboard for Vintage??
All advice is appreciated, including "Don't bother playing, you're a goner", but I'm likely to ignore that one.
Thoughts and suggestion are highly appreciated. The main focus is keeping their creatures off long enough to land your own through with lethal. Main thing I'm thinking of chucking in is "cover" for the creatures in form of Mizzium Skin or Counters...
You can't attack utill all players have ten or more creatures.
Foils do double what is printed on them(lands tap for two mana, creatures have double stats)
Legends can only be destroyed by legends.
Guess who taught us ' the rules?? The kid with most foils, only one with legends, and the obe who could play his brothers well curved decks... The ready of us just took every card we owned and shuffled up.
Well the mill would have to be out for Gameday anyways, and was mostly in there because I figured it could be used effectivley against non-recursion decks.
Both Stinger and Rats I can do a 4-of, Go for the Throat is out due to Mirran watermark(Alignment rules are no Mirran watermarks, at least ten phyrexian, right??)
I don't have any of the vapors, but I do have a single Zenith.
I was also contemplating putting in my All is Dust, but the seven mana seemed daunting even if it's colourless.
I've actually been playing for quite a while... Except the format has ALWAYS been 2-9 player FFA Casual, with no restrictions whatsoever bar 4-of, and even that has sometimes been laxed. Above 20 lands is really the norm?? Wow. Every deck I've run has been 16-20 lands if it was 60 cards.
A quick change with a few of your suggestions and sans all Mirran marks-
Hi. Mentioning first-
I'm from a rural area so my current cardpool is limited, but I'm moving to the city shortly and would like a somewhat competetive standard deck.
Yes, I need a more dedicated wincon. I just can't make up my mind which of the three is best... ;P
Also; ideally, this will be Phyrexian aligned for Game Day purposes, which is the main reason I would appreciate advice(What to replace the Mirran jazz with, for now), although general advice would also be nice.
Please, help me build babies first standard, And thank you for your time.
No sideboard at current- I figure working the mainboard out first could be handy.
I am hoping to get more Tezz before Gameday, as proliferating him and firing his ulti is the decks main wincon, as you can probably tell.
I have most Phyrexian cards to work with, sans a few rares. This includes Blightsteel, Geth, Skithryx, Glissa etc... But no ways to cheat anything in.
As well as a decent amount of M11 cards- including a Jace 1.0 and whispersilks, if those would be handy...
I suppose I should stop rambling and pass it to you guys. Please, be harsh- it will help me learn.
At current, we have Lilliana with the Veil, which has given her an obvious power boost from her v1, and she's had it since the first webcomic she appeared in(Namely; the first webcomic). We have Garruk chasing after her and getting a nasty curse during the process.
Because Garruk then goes to Jace and sends him off to Zendikar, we know this is happening pre-Drazi, and by connection in step/slightly before Scars, as well.
In The Veil's Curse, we see he hasn't caught up with Lilli after the release of the drazi, because Sahrkan the even-madder and more wretched is trailing Lilliana on Bolas' behalf. This tells us that Bolas is potentially aware of the Veil and its abilities, and we all know that anything that makes anyone more powerful is something Bolas wants.
If not that, however, it shows us that the guy with his fingers in every pie is involved here, too.
So... Potentially, I see the next block revolving around a plane where Garruk finally catches up with Lilly, possibly both of them getting 2.0's, and of course Bolas will be there. Because BOLAS.(And no, I'm not a fan).
Thoughts?? I just thought I would throw this out here after re-reading the webcomics with Lilly, she being my favourite Walker. And for reference, I haven't read any books, so I apologise for anything I've missed.
A little deck I whipped up recently. I... Don't actually know how to work the tags on this forum, so my apologies. This is literally just a copy/paste from the notepad I wrote it up in.
Anyways... This is a casual deck that will most likely see play in decent sized multiplayer games(between 4-10 people) with few sweepers.
And yes, not much by way of manafixing/acceleration. I like to keep it simple. ;P
I am of the belief(and hopeful) that we're going back to Dominaria, due to the fact that we're at the end of the "six year plan". What better time to return to the centre of the multiverse?? None, especially not if/when the Phyrexians conquer Mirrodin.
A possible plot I foresee; Venser returning to Dominaria after the defeat(and possible death of Elspeth, Koth and/Or Tezzeret) on Mirrodin and warning the plane previously invaded by Phyrexians.
Otherwise, I believe the next set will be one we haven't seen before, but involve Garruk and Lilliana. Possibly with a Lilli V2(with the Veil) who will have some crazy creature killing ability, and maybe a version of Garruk which is actually weaker than v1, and maybe two colours(G/B of course).
After all, the other Planeswalker DD's have been involved in the plot so far(Jace vs Chandra on Zendikar, Elspeth vs Tezzeret on Mirrodin).
However, having just one vote, it went to Dominaria.
