Urza's Destiny - So busted the entire design team got literaly yelled at
Odyssey - Meh set
Mirrodin - So busted it had a banning in Standard
Fifth Dawn - One of the most boring sets in MTG's history
Scars of Mirrodin - Terrible set
Dark Ascension - Need I say more.
I personally thought Innistrad was a pretty dumb set, most of the cards were atrociously bad, and it was really just a bunch of cliche'd schlock
As for Ravnica, Future Sight, and Zendikar, even a broken clock is right twice a day, but historically, putting Maro on a set's lead does not turn out well. This is the man who admitted he literally fell asleep in a design meeting, someone woke him up, and he whipped up the little gem Goblin Test Pilot
I don't know about you, but falling asleep in meetings and having to be jostled awake to come up with horrible ideas doesn't sound like someone who's particular good, talented, or deserving of his job.
Anyway, this isn't the MaRo thread. I'm 50/50 on wether or not that picture is of Elspeth, it could be any generic female warrior, but the two round things on that staff sure look like they are from her sword.
But Maro isn't a developer, the set's powerlevel isn't his main concern.
I think a couple of the Dimir cards that were just too slow to be all stars in GTC like Bane Alley Broker and Call of the Nightwing will be a lot better here. Dimir is going to be better than people think.
I've only done two drafts with DGM so far, and in both I ran aggressive WBR decks that mainly tried to go Boros/Rakdos with some added Orzhov removal and value guys to help fill out the deck. Most people I've played against so far have been drafting durldy goodstuff decks that just kind of got ran over.
Anyways, there are 10 3-color combinations, and I was wondering which ones you guys thought were the most/least powerful?
Why the hell does Vorel have such arbitrary restrictions on his doubling ability? Did Wizards look at Gilder Bairn and say "We need to have this be our Simic champion, but remove some of his most unique functionality" then print it? It seems so absurd unless I'm missing some huge interaction.
Allowing you to ultimate PWs the turn you play them is pretty absurd.
509.4g. An ability that reads "Whenever [this creature] attacks and isn't blocked, . . ." triggers if no creatures are declared as blockers for that creature. It won't trigger if the attacking creature is blocked and then all its blockers are removed from combat.
According to one of the articles on the mothership, this format will be significantly slower than GTCx3 and RTRx3, which will be nice.
The two mana bounce bear looks pretty cool, but I'm trying to think of cool etb effects on common/uncommon creatures in RTR/GTC that he'd go well with but I'm drawing a blank. It doesn't seem like it's worth the tempo loss to bounce something with detain most of the time.
Real-time update... anyone else enjoying Efro draw what, 6? land in a row and lose a game he otherwise wins easily?
I don't care if it's a good game from a deckbuilding perspective, the challenge of solving a format etc... if you produce moments like this more often than moments of real excitement and drama, you will never be a sport watched by anyone but a hardcore enthusiast.
Which is sad, since Magic has the potential to be much more.
The that same randomness is what magic so great. Did you hear the explosion in the room when he topdecked the mortars the next game? The chat of almost 20,0000 people also went crazy.
I actually really like the fact that sometimes in Magic you just get screwed. You could feel the pain coming from Efro as he bricked land after land. I thought it made for brilliant television.

Beetleform Mage, Species Gorger, Tithe Drinker, and Fluxcharger all seem first pickable in a pack with a weak rare.
The rest look pretty good.

Works with kaalia
Also; The Books. Thought for Food and The Lemon of Pink are two of my favorites.

EDIT: After a gatherer search, these look like the best candidates to pair it with:
Urbis Protector
Voidwielder
Dinrova Horror
Centaur Healer
Seller of Songbirds
Slum Reaper
Only really excited about using it with Urbis Protector and Dinrova Horror, although the others can be nice.
