Hey guys how do you feel about renaming this deck UR TempoMancer(s)? Has a nice rhythm and seems more accurate since the deck doesnt really play delver any more (from what Ive seen in MTGO Daily tourneys). You have 2 "Mancers" Grim Lavamancer and Young Pyromancer, and this is of course a tempo deck...
Tempo-Mancer sounds cool to me.
Lol delver is a staple of ur tempo, you cant cut it.
What is considered the budget version? Losing mox opal means losing some explosiveness and makes it harder to cast colored spells, opal is pretty important to the deck. What else does budget version not run?
Yea I really need to get a set of goyfs. I used to have a set long ago but I sold out of mtg for a while. I' dreading biting the bullet and buying them but most likely will have to.
This is true, I went 3-1 yesterday at a modern tournament. My only loss was against Junk, he blow me out both games with a Zealous persecution. I don't feel very comfortable with running goyfs and splashing a stronger green in the deck though. Right now I'm seriously debating about running 2 Threads of disloyalty or Vedalken shackles on the Sb.
Also what are your thoughts on Spell pierce, why do you guys believe the card doesn't see any play in tempo lists. I understand that this deck works as a tempo deck in a different way that say Delver decks, but the usage of spell pierce is still the same, to disrupt your opponent with cheap spells to protect your small creatures.
Threads has been played in many tempo SBs since it got first at Antwerp, there should definitely be 2 in your sb. Spell pierce is too niche, its nice in all in where youre looking to protect the combo for cheap but in tempo where you need max value on all your cards it whiffs too often. Izzet charm is a much more versatile card that does way more for the deck.
Help a new guy into the format, getting the deck will allow me to brew in this thread too.
Is there anything I should be especially aware of?
I'm about to pick up a full tempo-list in two weeks. Been looking to buy-in into modern since the start, I now have the resources and time to do it.
I know my chops with the basis of the deck and the philosophy and the meta-game spectrum where it stands. I'm fluent with tuning to my local meta and will adapt to the top8 lists of my LGS for the next few weeks to balance out the list.
Guess I'm in a way throwing a heads-up to joining the ranks of deceiving people into thinking I'm comboing while I'll bolt them out the game.
Is there any card you think is really good now? Or is everyone stuck in the limbo of banning announcement? Which cards you really enjoy in the deck? Which you tend to side out a lot?
Electrolyze is pretty sweet, I've loved it. I tend to side out Splinter Twin and Remand a lot but I tend to play against lots of jund/uwr/affinity. I really enjoy almost all the cards in the deck, cryptic is probably the sweetest though, either that or snapcaster mage.
and number of izzet charms in many list=3 but i think this is a lot
Yea I only play 2 izzet charm, 3 seems like a lot. As for the mana its hard to tell when you dont post what lands youre running but I'd probably max out on sulfur falls and steam vents while also adding a cascade bluffs and probably a basic over the four misties. I'd also run a different artifact hate card then ancient grudge since you won't reliably be able to fetch your green source.
Sure i agree with that. Frankly they would be fools not to after seeing what happened with shoal/ascension and others. That is why i love MTGO as far as prices. You can catch lots of bots before prices change.. and quantity is so high one person/retailer can't really corner the market.
I guess now is the time to sell my Garruk's though. That card is super underrated... I think it is close to as good as Elspeth in modern.
If you think the card is underrated why would you want to sell it now? I also don't think he is bad but I would not go as far as to say he is as good as Elspeth either.
I know I should. You are the 2nd person to tell me that. I just haven't been thrilled with it whenever I have used it.
I still have over a month until the GP. I am sure I will figure it out by then
I play 2 electrolyze and 2 peek MD. I wouldn't drop peek, it sucks but its one of the only 1 mana card draw options we have and you definitely want more then just 4 visions in that slot. I cut the md dispel and 1 Splinter Twin to fit the electrolyzes in and I've been very happy with the change, electrolyze was fantastic all day in both the GPTs I top 8ed and I didn't miss the dispel or twin at all.
Yes. These are very difficult. However, many times, jund players just think we are on All-In and cripple themselves by being greedy with Bob and Thoughtseize. They dont like seeing Bolt, Snapcaster, Bolt EOT.
Most players familiar with the format should know to expect tempo twin by now. That being said they'll still cast seize and bob.
Are the BGx variants difficult to deal with, running Abrupt Decay and discard?
Jund is a tough one. Once again tight play and proper SBing can do you wonders but thanks to Thoughtseize and Inquisition alongside Abrupt Decay Jund is probably one of the worst match ups for Tempo Twin in my experience.
From my experience the only very difficult matchup is UWR control: they play EOT too so our big advantage is gone, they have more removal for our guys, they also have counterspells, and they have Restoration Angel that is just tromping Pestermite. It's hard to combo off against them and it's hard to tempo them cause they play Lightning Helixes too. This is a horror matchup IMHO.
I've played against UWR several times and I don't think it is nearly as bad as you make it sound. The match up certainly isn't a good one, UWR is favored but if you board well Twin has a pretty solid postboard game against them. I often win by just resolving a blood moon and eventually beating them down, most of the combo comes out post board leaving you with much less dead cards and a stronger plan. They also have a very hard time with Batterskull, if you can resolve one you usually can take control of the game quickly.
how do these deck usually deal with living end decks? the first game is great, but the post sideboard game can get a little hairy.
What does living end bring in thats so bad? If they kill any artifacts before going off you get any that were creatures back and if you can draw a ravager you're golden when they combo.
That looks like a pretty accurate list.

That's exactly what I did before deciding to cut the 4th Splinter Twin for another one. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
