I fractured my neck when I was sixteen. It came at that moment in life where you feel invincible, unstoppable, immortal. I dove on a fumble in a football game and the linemen from the other team dove on top of me and my head was at a bad angle and about five hundred pounds put too much pressure on my neck. After physical therapy, I was functioning fine again...eventually. It only needed a bit more pressure to permanently cripple me...or kill me.

It's been seven years and the only way I can regain that invincible, unstoppable, immortal feeling again is through too much Jack Daniels.

    The Great Fuhrer would have been venerated a hero by most of the Nazis, Germans, Poles, Czechs, etc;

Huh? No, no no. Hitler hated Slavic people with a passion. The Poles and the Czechs would have been second-class citizens barely above slave status at best under a victorious Germany. At worst, they'd have followed the Jews, Roma and others to the camps. I think its pretty safe to say that the only people would would have considered Hitler a hero would have been Nazi Germans and Austrians.

Cincinnatus is probably the best example of a "good" dictator. Another is Kārlis Ulmanis of Lativia.

Other terrible dictators not mentioned include, but are not limited to:

    Chiang Kai-shek
    Hideki Tojo
    Omar Hasan Ahmad al-Bashir
    Hafez al-Assad
    Ne Win
    Ante Pavelić

    I'm being sarcastic and correct.

America's foreign policy is one of extreme Short-sight, utter jingoism, and xenophobia.

It is also true that America treats and has treated other nations as nothing less than resources to be exploited.

You didn't, and I didn't imply that you did. Teach

    You're making inaccurate assumptions.

Which proves the point we agree on: America's foreign policy is extremely short-sighted.

"People keep acting like this is a new problem. It isn't. We've done similar things in the past. There were supposed to be free and fair elections in Korea. When it looked like the communists would win overwhelmingly, we decided to postpone elections. The result was the completion of the division on the pennisula and the later war. The same thing happened in Vietnam. When it became clear that the South Vietnamese would join the North Vietnamese in voting for Ho Chi Ming, we installed a dictatorship.

We did it in Iran back in the 1950s and in Chilé in the late 1970s.

This is simply how American foreign policy works."

It's a pretty good summary of how America's foriegn policy is.

I don't hold grudges, and you think too highly of yourself. :]

I never said you approved of it, and you entirely over-reacted to my pretty easy to discern statement.

Either you are one of the most literal, most presumptuous, or most defensive people around.

    Thumbs Up

Thank you for the clarification. I apologize for taking it the wrong way.

Special note: In the long making of this post, I forgot that we aren't dealing with Iran. This is the Palestinian authority. Go ahead and ignore many of my remarks about how we are threatening the Palestinians.

I got confused with Iran. See my earlier remarks.

Don't feel too bad about confusing Hamas with Iran - Hamas is Iran's pawn these days. Since the US and the EU have cut funding to the Palestinian Authority, Iran has picked up the bill. Private Saudis (the same ones who take the money you spend on gas and turn it into funding for Al Qaeda) are also writing the checks now. Hamas has always been an extremist group, but now its an extremist group that is beholden to much worse extremists.

Short-sighted to the extreme, utterly jingoistic, and entirely xenophobic.

Afterall, what are other nations but resources to be exploited?

This must be another one of your "sarcastic when I'm incorrect" posts.

Where did I say that I felt America was correct in pursuing these policies? I don't like many of them. As a moderate leftist, I am horrified that my country removed a leftist, democratically-elected regime in Chilé. I think Operation AJAX in Iran was utterly stupid in retrospect. I'm sure both of these actions made sense then in realism terms.

So please inform me, good sir, of where in my post that I expressed jingoistic, short-sighted (to the extreme, even) and xenophobic tendencies. I have combed over my own writing and can find nothing of the sort. It would seem to be that you are mistaken, but I offer you the chance to prove your statement lest I begin to assume this is just a personal attack due to resentment from a previous thread.

Hamburgers are made from ground-up cow carcasses. That's how they are made. Stating that does not mean I enjoy eating hamburgers (I do not) or that I hate the cows. American foreign policy is made up decisions that consider America's position in the world first and everyone else's second. It is driven by the security dilemnia. Liberalism was put on the back-burner from 1945 until 1993 and realism ruled the day. That's simply how American foreign policy works. Stating that in no way means I approve of the system. Nor does it mean I despise other nations and view them as nothing but resources.

    Arc: What Egyptian situation?

We spent several years trying to convince Egypt to hold free, democratic elections. Then Hamas was elected to office in Palestine. It just so happens that Hamas is the militant arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist group based in Egypt. Afterwards, it became very clear that in the event of Egyptian elections, the Muslim Brotherhood would sweep the polls. In fact, they did very well in 2005 by gaining 88 seats in the parliamentary elections despite a massive government crack down on their supporters and candidates. After the Hamas election, the US government requested Egypt postpone elections and the dictatorship happily complied. Democracy in Egypt has now been postponed.

I guess progress in 50 years is too much to hope for.

Well, Hamas is still in power, isn't it? We have removed them yet. We've simply isolated them. Today's practice seems to be "Let them vote and if they vote 'wrong' we will punish them for it, but we won't topple them until they do something to us."

*slips the Egyptian situation under his cloak while you aren't watching*

    Quote from Xenphire »
Any other Tool fans here? I started following Tool at the release of Lateralus. Admittedly, at first I didn't like Lateralus, but I wasn't into deep music like I am now. Needless to say, Lateralus is now one of my favorite cds, and I love their others as well.

May 1st is the release date of their new album, "10,000 Days", and the first single, "Vicarious", was due to hit the radio and tv with a music video on April 17th. Well, it leaked tonight and I got a listen to it, and the video is up on YouTube now, and I must say once again Tool has impressed me. The vocals are superb and as always the complexity of the bass work blows me away, as well as the other aspects of the song.

The track listing is as follows, for those curious:

    01 Vicarious 07:06
    02 Jambi 07:28
    03 Wings For Marie (Pt 1) 06:11
    04 10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2) 11:14
    05 The Pot 06:22
    06 Lipan Conjuring 01:11
07 Lost Keys (Blame Hofman) 03:44
    08 Rosetta Stoned 11:14
    09 Intension 07:21
    10 Right In Two 08:56
    11 Viginti Tres 05:01

If you want any more news or to keep an eye on upcoming tour dates and the such, I would suggest bookmarking The Tool Hotline (cousin of The Nine Hotline) as they keep very up-to-date and on the ball with news. You can also check out some of the wicked new album art there as well.

That's not the new video. It's the new song dubbed over old footage that they play at concerts. If you look long enough on Youtube, you'll find the new single dubbed over the video of Schism as well.

That said, I am impressed with this song, but if its an indication of the entire album, I may not be as impressed as I was expecting. That's because every Tool album sounds very different from the others. This one sounds very much like Lateralus (which isn't bad, just not an evolution).

Tool makes me feel old. Lateralus came out ten days before I graduated from high school. Now 10,000 Days comes out just ten days before I graduate college.

Yes, the flag represents slavery and racism among other things. However, to ban a hat with the flag on it is the equivalent of banning someone from voicing their opinion. I have every right to be racist if I want to, and I should have every right to voice that opinion in a respectful, civilized manner. Wearing an article of clothing with such a symbol on it is utilizing freedom of speech, and everyone has the right to voice their opinion. Period.

Ah, but you're missing an important part. If the flag represents slavery and racism, then to wear around African-Americans is automatically disrespectful and uncivilized. Racism is a version of hate and hate is never respectful. Respectful racism is an oxymoron.

School policy is not a matter of legality/illegality. A school can quite justifiably do things that the federal government would be prevented from by the Constitution.

Public school policy is a matter of legality. They can't do anything they want regardless of Constitutional rights. If they could, Brown v. Board of Education would have no meaning.

well off topic here as a chinese i can say this, the chinese would not make fun of any other races religion, since the chinese has written that no matter if the person is your enemy or not you still need to respect them.

And so have Christians, but it rarely happens. I doubt the Chinese have any more respect for their enemies than anyone else.

    Quote from erikcu »
think Parker and Stone have a valid point about the news media and censorship. The media has a responsibilty to report news, without capitulating to religious demands.

South Park doesn't report the news. It exists for entertainment, not information spreading.

Which is true. Middle-aged Christians would not take it calmly. However, they would've been in the wrong, just as the current day rioters are today. You can defend against a so-called "attack" by either educating those around you, and simply rebuke or ignore the offenders, or you can take up arms and riot in the streets, killing more of your own people than those of the "enemy".

    There is a right decision.

Images of Mohammed have been kept out of the media in America because American Muslims have peacefully requested the images stay out. American Muslims have not rioted over this nor have they launched threats over this. They reacted as calm, but concerned citizens. South Park just took a crap on their civil opinions.

Denver'D: The Muslim community has calmed down over the issue. The fire has died down to a small flicker. Parker and Stone decided to pour gasoline on that spark and start a roaring blaze again. Therefore, they are yelling "fire!" when the fire is only a non-threatening candle. My point stands.

I still fail to see how this is a great victory over terrorism.

What Parker & Stone wanted to do was shout "fire!" in a crowded theater. How in the world is that something to be proud of?

    Dear Sir,

Please explain how refusing to show a picture of Muhammad is "capitulation to terrorist demands." There are those who wish to understand this logic.

And if it wouldn't be too much trouble, please explain how images of Jesus defecating is a great victory over terrorism and why it is worthy of applause instead of protest.

    Thank you.
