Speaking to the comments about the Caucus process, screw that noise. Caucus's are a mess that made plenty of sense before the advent of the telephone when you needed some way to convert the votes of farmers in the middle of nowhere into county/state/national delegates and then a nomination but in our modern world I am all for primaries. In every single caucus state so far, on both sides, their has been a bunch of weird, underhanded shenanigans by the people who are experienced at screwing around with caucuses and for what? I'm aware of the various tradeoffs between IRV and the like, but within a state level whatever advantage that caucus's had over primaries is long gone.

I didn't have much of a problem with them until, well, I have to (get to?) run a caucus for my precinct this year as I'm a PCO for the Democrats. Fun.

Oh, and random anecdote. I was in the Navy from 2005-2009 and, during out 2008 deployment my ship stopped off in Singapore and I can still remember shopkeepers putting up hand drawn campaign ads on their windows imploring us to vote for Obama! I didn't know how to process that at the time since I didn't get really politically activated until 2011, but damn, isn't that something?

    1. Typically in versus debates, one assumes that abilities are basically the same, otherwise you get into pointless semantics like "does The Force affect chakra?" Or "Who knows if people in dragonball have the same biology as people in Magic, so maybe Jace/Bolas wouldn't even know how to affect their minds, or maybe their magic wouldn't work at all!" No, that's boring and undermines the whole scenario. Dragonball uses Ki, Magic uses mana, but for the purposes of a versus debate, they're both just "energy". Similarly, mind control stemming from an application of Ki has to be assumed to work the same as mind control stemming from the usage of mana. Nappa, being the juggernaut he was, was able to block Chaozu's mental manipulation just by using his ki.

Typically? According to whom? Chaozu's mental abilities work no differently than any other ki based moves in Dragonball that can be shrugged off with a sufficiently high power level. If you want to use a better example of how true magic works in the DBZ universe then Babidi is a clearer example to use. An example which also disproves the "it's just energy" argument you tried to make. Questions like "does The Force affect Chakra" are valid because it would determine how sensing works. The biology question is significantly less interesting as their is little indication that basic biology is different. Hell, the reason that Goku isn't a blood knight like the rest of the Saiyan's has been chocked up to him suffering brain damage as a youth.

So, no, I won't grant equivalence between Chaozu's mindfreaker abilities and something that works in a different fashion. The fact that it's ki vs mana isn't the issue, but that both work separately.

    2. A character's narrative importance does not at all factor into these things. If that was the case, then Spiderman would be more powerful than The One Above All, and that clearly isn't the case. Chaozu may have been a third string character, but the fact is he had mind powers that far exceeded anything we've seen most Magic characters produce.

It works like this: Chaozu was a supporting character to a minor antagonist. He was never written to be all that powerful. Using his mental abilities as an argument against character from an entirely different property is foolish. Seriously, I don't know how you wrote this "assume that Chaozu's mind magic is equivalent to Jace's or Nicol Bolas'" without choking. Chaozu equal to Jace? Equal to NICOL BOLAS? Ludicrous.

Your spiderman argument is a non-starter. Shared Universe in a Western Comic. Different rules (and within his own narrative he rarely stays down for long, or loses for long, just like every other traditional story with the only difference being scale)

Chaozu exceeding most magic characters is irrelevant. Most magic characters don't specialize in mental magic and the two you name dropped blow him out the water

Cool, you're intangible. What does that mean when Goku can literally punch through a planet 10x as dense as Earth when he's in Super Saiyan 3? What does intangibility do for you when Vegeta in the Saiyan Arc is powerful enough to destroy Earth with a single attack, and that's before he transforms into the oozaru, which makes him 10x stronger? Here's what good it is:

    >Goku fires a kamehameha
    >you turn intangible
    >your planet gets destroyed
    >Goku uses instant transmission and goes to some place else
    >you're left floating in space because while his attack didn't damage you, it destroyed everything around you

    That's a win for Goku.

As I said before, DBZ is just on a completely different power tier.

ADDENUDM: I would be remiss not to mention that dragonball characters were moving faster than regular humans could see by the end of the very first arc (And I mean Dragonball, not Dragonball Z, so back when Goku was still a kid). In the first arc of Z, the Saiyan arc, characters were moving so fast you couldn't see them except by tracking their ki.

What does all this mean? It means that before you even think to become intangible you'd be dead.

Because Goku commonly strikes first? Doesn't talk at all? And destroys the entire planet with it's presumably millions of innocents on it? Your argument here is completely contradictory to the character.

Ultimately, Nicol Bolas would defeat Goku by talking to him. No magic required. Because Goku is an idiot and Nicol Bolas isn't a mustache twirling Toriyama villain.

Dude, seriously you just gave away enough information to basically just tell anyone interested to come find you. There are some people so skilled they can use a photograph of you to find you. Seen it done. It's crazy stuff, seen it done by amateur sleuths without much issue.

You're probably right, I will reduce the degree of specificity.

No probably about it. I've tracked people down to get divorce papers sent with no more than what kind of job they have, what region of the state they live in, and a willingness to pretend to be a manager for a Red Lobster. Then the Bounty Hunter we knew served the guy some divorce papers.

Fun day. Did it all on my phone from a coffee shop.

I'm kinda sad I haven't been active lately because if I'd read FD4's comment before you edit'd your original remark I'd have found you just because I like puzzles and, well, "ECP says what up brosef" is probably a best case scenario :p

    @The Op

I graduated *** laude in Psychology, Business and Sales. I don't know if I want to claim that I'm necessarily an autodidact, per se, outside the notion that, of course, everyone is self taught to an extent, but I'm a published artist, I've run a political satire website (and just got tapped to be the EiC of a magazine that I get to create alongside some really interesting people) as well as actual electoral campaigns and the occasional bit of citizen lobbying at my state capitol. I've also been a teacher, military vet, all kinds of wonky stuff. Oh, and I'm reasonably well versed in a wide range of topics due, in part, to a particular member of this forum insisting I buy a bunch of books I otherwise wouldn't (thanks man Smile

If they keep to the "each season is a different cast" that I've heard rumors of, I'd give 2:1 that he's the time traveler lead character for Season 3 with small Cameo at the start of the second season.

Also, what the hell is with this "let's knock the bad guy out and then just leave him there" supposed to be? They need to do a better job with making Casper feel threatening.

Although damn near everything involving Canary, Cold, Heatwave, and Stein is gooooolden. I could do without the hawk people and [strike]Superman[/strike]Atom, though

jace, the mind sculptor can beat gokku. he cannot win without his memories. same with Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker mind control. self destructs himself.

Not in Dragonball. That's just not how the verse works.

For example, Chaozu is a known mindfreaker, but when he tried to invade Nappa's mind it didn't work because Nappa's power was just so much greater than his. If one's to assume that Chaozu's mind magic is equivalent to Jace's or Nicol Bolas', both Jace and Bolas would be unable to read Goku's thoughts, let alone control him.

As for who could beat him... nobody alive right now, that's for sure. Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan is a hell of a drug, and we now know that Super Saiyan 3 Goku has enough raw strength to punch a hole through a planet 10x as dense as Earth. So yeah. It's a complete massacre of the entire Magic pantheon of characters.

Except that mtg style mind control doesn't work like DBZ's does, or at least Chaozu. Also, why would you assume a supporting character is equivalent to a main character or arch villains powers? That argument is narrative bonkers.

You've also ignored that not everything in mtg goes off of pure strength. You know whats hard to punch through? Intangibility. Who cares about raw strength when you can just negate what Goku is doing.

Another season of quippy, action-packed period piece with classic cars and clothes and guns. Pure joy to watch.
It's beyond obvious that the Council is HYDRA, given the logo evolution that Fitz and Simmons discovered on Agents of SHIELD. Since the Council is sponsoring Thompson in New York now, we're probably going to see the beginning of the HYDRA infiltration of SHIELD this season.

I was pretty sure from the moment they were introduced that either Violet or Frost was a second Black Widow agent. And the ending of the episode makes me think Frost is something else yet to be determined, so yeah, calling it now: Violet's a Widow.

I was somewhat surprised to see Wilkes hitting on Carter so overtly and publicly. Isn't it really dangerous for him to be doing that? It's not like the show is ignoring the racism of the '40s. His characterization seemed a bit inconsistent here. At times he was almost autism-spectrum-level oblivious, but at other times he was really smooth and canny.

Even more surprised to actually see Mrs. Jarvis onscreen. But I suppose with Carter living as Stark's houseguest it would have been a bit of a strain to keep up that running gag. And her character is immediately a barrel of fun, so there's that. I'm going to miss Angie, though.

10 bucks says shes Madam Mask (Masque?)

I interpreted Wilkes as being all nerdy science guy more or less until her figured she wasn't like the rest with a dash of distracted scientist. Much better by episode 3

I think the group is intended to be the Secret Empire, which they'll probably make part of Hydra in this. My issue is that Marvel has a TON of awesome evil societies, and we keep coming back to Hydra over and over. Where is the return of AIM? Where is Zodiac outside of the hints in the Agent Carter One-Shot? Where is Serpent Society? Leviathan?

Otherwise it was a lot of fun, but I hope after this season of Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter, we're 'done' with them.

Isn't MCU AIM tied to IM3?

Otherwise I agree, but I don't know if Feige and Co trust the mainstream audience with more than 1 or 2 secret societies. I hope so, too, because if they show us the infiltration of shield then it makes no sense for them to battle Hydra publicly any longer

The last season being so bad seems to have completely killed this thread. The winter season seems significantly better so far, since you have a couple shows that are already outstanding(ERASED and the Rakugo show) and a few shows that have some potential to be 4 star shows(Grimgar, Dagashi kashi, Dimension W, Ajin). What is everyone else currently watching?

I just rewatched Fate:Stay/Night UBW on Netflix. Netflix finally got the second season and the English voice actors for it actually aren't half bad. Also, Ufotable released an OVA for the UBW good ending (featuring Saber surviving the war). I know of an unlisted video on youtube that has english subtitles for it, if you want.

I would like to point out that Saitama would win without blinking. The two characters powers are not even comparable as Saitama was literally written to never meet someone as our more powerful than himself

Eh, it's a bit of a Superman argument. How strong is someone who's designed to be stronger than everything else? There really isn't much of a point to debating Saitama vs anyone because it almost always devolves into arguments of "Saitama is designed to be unbeatable therefore nothing can beat him and your argument is invalid".

****, man, spoiler tag ***** like that.

And Superman at least has explicit weaknesses.

I don't read much manga, ever since HxH went on hiatus again, but I can see Haikyuu being that way. The games are super dramatic and I especially like when the characters do their signature moves and it goes all crazy. When shoyo hangs in the air its just epic.

And yeah, extremely unfortunate Slant Anime sites should take a cue from Richard Eisenburis and not mention the ******* season conclusion in their logline for the second season Slant

She got too big for them to afford, I believe. Plus she's full time on another program.

As for Katana Girl, 10 bucks says she doesn't actually exist and is the manifestation of someone elses powers.

Also, what the **** is with this shows Japanese? Some of those words have very simple translations that the subtitles just... no...

Overall though I really liked it. Zachary Levi is just adorable.

What up my Glip Glops. November 20th has the next Marvel series coming to Netflix, Jessica Jones AKA AKA Jessica Jones

Details are pretty sparse at the moment, but you can get an idea of what the show is going for with the trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5g8v7szix0

Oh, and the bad guy is played by David Tennant, ie, the 10th Doctor.

Considering who created the character and how amazing Daredevil was I for one can't wait for November 20th
