The pronblem with Cavern of Souls is that neither mana ability affects the gamestate visibly. This is not true with painlands. With painlands, you can always tell which ability was activated by whether the player's life changed or not.
What about the Champions of Kamigawa allied land cycle then?
A: Even though the Colossus has been in play for more than a turn, a creature without haste can't attack unless it's been under your control since the beginning of your turn.
Follow up question:
It's my beginning of combat step. My opponent plays Dominate targeting my Chameleon Colossus. After it resolves, but still in the beginning of combat step, I play Brand. Can I attack with the Chameleon Colossus?
You can untap lands, as long as nothing has happened since you tapped them, but that's pretty much the only 'undo' you're allowed.
Note this doesn't work with City of Brass and Forbidden Orchard. They have a triggered ability that triggers on being tapped for mana, so you can't undo it. They are the only exceptions however (assorted pain land varients and other nonbasics work fine, and of course basics).
Well if Randy Is truely one of the ones laid off. i feel terribly sorry for him, he was a great person and i so happened to get lucky and meet him and shake his hand. This is never good news to hear, and i'm personally glad that he can at leas rejoin the ranks of Pro players, and maybe when the ****** economy comes back up from this ressession, he'll be re-offered a job (probably not as high as his current position is of course) But i wonder are they also going to Axe BDM? Randy and BDM were the cornerstones of the Tournament Center, and they deserve to stay.
I wish you Luck Randy. and congrats about the baby :/ Sorry to hear such bad news has come your direction. Wotc should be kicked for doing these things to the fathers of newborns. but this country just screams broken
BDM isn't a WotC employee. His only relation to WotC is writing the column on the mothership, and the Tournament Center during the Pro Tours.
I was testing it out as a splashable tidings, havent had an opportunity to draft with it yet so will see how it plays (Ill keep it in mind tho.).
I know it sounds strange but blue is sooo good but once the great cards are in it is hard to find good 'filler'...
Covenant of Minds is just awful. If you really really want a 4U draw spell, use Petals of Insight, which is strictly* better than Brilliant Plan, instead of strictly* worse like Covenant of Minds.
* - I know. I don't care. Hisoka's Defiance. Mindslaver + Quicken. Whatever.
That's actually very well said. I was looking at it from entirely the wrong perspective. I now agree with that stance. I think the clarification I'm going to add to the rules is to specify that the free mana is for cards you control.
EDIT: Rule 1 has been updated to the following wording:
1| The number corresponding to the game name (I.E. DC5, DC8, DC10) indicates the maximum number of mana of any color you can play per card that you control per turn, without tapping land in play for additional mana. This mana can be used as Snow mana as well.
You don't control cards in your hand, you own them. So technically speaking, you can't use that to cast spells...
Should be changed to own and/or control, maybe?
Torrent this = 12damage. At least. And you still have 2 4/4s with flying. I don't know what it would be in but it is still quite crazy awesome.
The token wouldn't get haste. Torrent gives creatures haste as part of it's ability, but the 4/4 token ability will only go on the stack until after Torrent finishes resolving.
Yep, I just saw that too and logged in to see if anyone posted it. But there's also MED II avatars there, and I can't find them posted anywhere else. Here they are:
Necropotence
Life +4
Hand +0
Skip your draw step.
At the end of your turn, if it's not the first turn of the game, put a death counter on Avatar - Necropotence. You draw X cards and lose X life, where X is the number of death counters on Avatar - Necropotence.
Orcish Squatters
Life -1
Hand -1
At the beginning of your precombat main phase, add x to your mana pool, where X is the number of lands target opponent controls.
Seems like that's the first ever avatar that's not based on a creature.
Ranger of Eos 3W
When Ranger of Eos comes into play, search your library for up to two creatures with converted mana cost of 1 or less and put them into your hand. Then shuffle your library.
3/2
3WW
Artifact Comes into play tapped? 1, T, Sacrifice ~: Destroy all nonartifact, nonland permanents.
Punish Ignorance WUUB
Instant
Counter target spell. It's controller loses 3 life and you gain 3 life.
Is there any particular reason to need 8 players per game? Having an odd number seems far superior to an even number in a newbie game.
In addition, I think newbie games should not have flavor - minimal flavor, sure, but giving players role names is a pretty bad idea (and seems even worse in 7/8/9 than in 12).

You can't play Blatant Thievery. You must target a permanent for each opponent, and if some of them have no permanents in play, you can't play BT.

Also, what did you add for Eventide?
