Mill and bounce. I can't believe they did hexproof before these two.
i can see it now...

bolt an opponent, then bounce a creature they control. that opponent mills 2.
do everything twice - UBR

on a side note, i actually like the 'dies' change. with it being shorter than its previous incarnation, it opens up some space on cards for more txt, thus a smidgen more design space, as it were.
i predict the following changes as well:
the return of 'bury' for "destroy without regeneration', and possibly the introduction of 'kill' for 'destroy, with possibility of regeneration'.
and for those smarmy asshats who are all like "huurrr, how does i kill teh undeadz?' the answer is 'just like everything else...with go for the throat'.
all joking and semantics aside, its nothing new. same way they 'died' before, but now its actually called 'dies'.
just my two cents, but it should be costed along the lines of reaper king. mono-hybrid loves this card. EDH likes this card too...lord knows how long ive wanted to make a Scarecrow EDH deck...(no, seriously, i think itd be hilarious, cause it would work fairly well)
so yeah, ive played with Vat in EDH. it is -bonkers-. but thats EDH.
it should be a good mid-game card, cause im sorry, in my EDH deck, someone wraths + i have body double out = thanks for giving me hasty tokens of my graveyard, not to mention if ive animated an artifact, ie mindslaver. and yeah, im pretty sure it works like that. and with gideon.
all in all, one of my favorite cards of SOM so far.
I am not going to quit now. However, if SOM block and next block are rubbish. I will quit. I'm not a stupid follower of WoTC.
Actually many players do quit in Kamigawa block.
honestly, i think this is the smartest, most well thought out statement youve posted. if youre going to quit, do it.
and to go on a tangent (ya know, cause this thread loves tangents. somehow it went from a 'mirrodin 2.0 might suck' thread to a 'lets debate the economy and shop policy/popularity/what-have-you of certain cards' thread) and say the following:
statements like this are, in my experience with those so inclined to make them, very similar to 'woe is me, i think ill off myself' (yeah, i went to suicide).
typically, psychologically, people who threaten/promise/profess a desire to commit suicide are doing it just for the attention. they have a need to be the center of attention and, when they arent, go to some drastic lengths to become it.
typically, the people who -dont- complain, dont show signs of depression, and dont profess a desire to end their life are those who generally do it. those who bemoan their existence usually dont.
so saying 'if the next two blocks suck, im gonna quit' was ment to be a 'dont you dare make sucky cards, wizards, or ill leave you!' type statement, i dont think its going to have the impact you want.
honestly, as ive stated before, i chose to view MTG as a game, nothing more, nothing less. yeah, its an expensive game at times, but its a game nonetheless.
if you chose to view it as more than that, thats fine, but honestly, no one here cares if you (or anyone else, for that matter) are going to quit or not.
that being said, ill get back on topic.
SOM is ama-za-za-zing in EDH. mimic vat is a -bomb-. almost anything it imprints is 10x better than the creature it used to be (i was making mind slaver tokens with it last night, thanks to march of the machines). im sure itll be entertaining in standard (the set as a whole, not just the vat), but i also like to see new card interactions, and i like to play games that make me think (not limited to MTG).
Spiritmonger and Pernicious Deed will always get my vote, especially Spiritmonger. Oh, how I'd love to cast regularly on Friday night again. Pernicious Deed would, for me, make my Abyssal Persecutors finally playable.
this. more so the Spiritmonger.
also, im pretty sure were gonna see a wave of lesser stuff, not sure what tho...maybe avarice totem?
honestly, well prolly see staff of domination as a mythic. *shrugs* who knows?
I am NOT reading through 51 pages of hidden gems to make sure mine is unposted. >:(
thread search tool is tech.
also, id like to add that most of the 'hidden gems' i posted are also bombs in PDH (peasant dragon highlander- no rares, but just like edh in all other respects, general can be any creature. the general is only legendary if a copy of it hits the field...just for those who dont know what pdh is)
Now this is where I disagree vehemently. There is a line between being a loyal customer who disagree with some minor policy by the company but still choose to play and a fanboy who grabs and accepts anything mindlessly as long as it has the trademark of their precioussssssssss
bah! again i say bah! its not that im a fanboy of any form (honestly, i have my issues with the way things are looking for SoM and future sets right now) but honestly, whats the -point- of bemoaning it so early? my original comment wasnt ment to show me in a 'omg, i lurve MaRo et al, and want to have their gay love-babies!' fanboy light. it was more to illustrate the fact that i can do two things- 1) i can look past shortcomings of cards/sets/blocks and see that its a game (a really fun game, at that), and realize that its not my -job- to play magic; 2) i like to socialize.
in my play group, at least those players whose opinions i value, we are fond of combo-centric decks and/or decks with low win chances. i guess were johnny like that.
come to think of it, this whole thread is probably wholly populated with spike/x psychographs....so im going to take my leave before i get my johnny/timmy feelings hurt.
but my point still stands. bottom line is we play magic to socialize. i guess we argue to do the same thing. *shrugs* to each their own.
::EDIT:: also, im a very facetious and sarcastic person. that doesnt translate well into txt.
::edit edit:: also, i kinda like SoM. i -didnt- like Mirrodin 1 though. was too....narrow. being broke, i didnt have the money (nor the car) to play the way i wanted. SoM is pretty entertaining. i like where the storyline went.
secondly, i dont know if this has been said or not, but what the hell, ill say it anyway...
WHO GIVES A FLYING RATS BEHIND IF THE SET SUCKS?! i mean seriously?! did people still play homelands? yes! did people still play saviors? yes! did people (and by people i mean me) still play standard when jund was king, *****ing every minute about how much they hated jund while playing some rouge home-brew that barely ever got a showing in the top 10 of a 12-person FNM? YES, THEY STILL PLAYED!
why?
because we love the game. screw 'the set sucks'. screw 'the block sucks'...MTG itself doesnt suck. so honestly, im of the following opinion: if the set/block/meta is slow, ☺☺☺☺ it! im gonna find a niche and fill it, become the best player of that niche, master that niche, run a train on that niche, and piss everyone in my playgroup off with that niche!
why?
because the bottom line is this: R&D and Design could take a crap on a photocopier, use that picture to make a card, give it the card type 'crap', eliminate all card types except for 'crap', give it "give two craps: take a crap" as an ability, and have it cost four brown mana....AND ID STILL PLAY...because i like using my brain and spending time with my friends (you havent lived till you take ten-minute turns because youre too drunk to remember what color islands tap for....but its ok, cause your friend doesnt remember if creatures with flying can or cannot block other creatures with flying).
TL;DR- we do it for two reasons: the lulz and love of the game. quit *****ing.
splicer would be way more broken if it covered all static/evasion abilities, even if it were legendary.
if you want to, you can do what i did and convince my play group to let me play with "mse" cards that i proxied. they had to come up with a system of approving them, but hey, i get to play with cards like this:
year's last corps 3
creature - Scarecrow Horror (R)
2/2
Creatures with flying get -2/-0.
Whenever a creature with flying enters the battlefield, you may gain 2 life.
Whenever a creature with flying is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may put a 0/1 black Scarecrow creature token with reach onto the battlefield. “Storm’s a’ comin’.”
(immagine that with reaper king as a general, and three opponents with flying creatures...)
and why the HELL has no one posted the link to the article yet?!

>have opponent at 0 life
>combat locked down
>they have phyrexian unlife

>all their rage
also- i dont get the point of that particular combo, can someone explain it to me? maybe im just missing something...
ww martial art for said martially trained, mutated reptile.
bonus ww- breed of reptile for above WW
just sayin...
