  • posted a message on Search for specific string?
So I can't figure out how to search for an exact string of words. Other search engines I've used you just put quotation marks around them but when I do that in the advanced search it doesn't seem to make a difference.

For example, if I put the following into the search engine

    "sword of fire and ice"

I would expect to only get results that have that string of words in that order. Instead I get a whole bunch of posts/threads that contain any of the words.

    What am I missing?

Yeah ranger is really cooling off and we are dropping our price to reflect that. I'll look into dropping it faster. Obviously there will always be a card like that that you can use for an example but it never goes across the board. Good luck and welcome to MTGO.

I checked about a dozen different cards and for every one your price was either higher or you were out of stock. I stopped comparing after that.

Not to get into a huge debate about your post but since you did say a lot of things that are just not true I feel like I need to respond.

Supernova- Prices are all over the place and yes sometimes it is cheaper but if your buying a playset you will end up paying more for 4x because everytime you buy a single card the price goes up. Also supernova's inventory is not the best and they are constantly out of stock of the hot cards.

Bazaar- I don't know much about them but sure they might be cheaper on some but they are not 10-15% cheaper that is just straight not true. If that was true I would just restock my bots directly from them since that is my margin on a lot of the hot STD cards. Nobody is 10-15% cheaper than me and if you find someone that is please let me know so I can go use them to restock.

Cardbot - They are good friends of mine and I have nothing negative to say about them. I will say that I offer singles on both my website and bots though so if you take that into account I usually have more in stock overall.

Now here is my advice if you want to save money. Find out what the bots are paying on the cards you want and put up a buy ad in the classifieds that is a tad above their buy but also a tad below their sell price. Another way you can save money is by buying your singles with paypal. For instance we offer 8% off if you use paypal. Other dealers offer similar programs and discounts if you buy bot credits from their websites.

I'm not interested in getting into a pissing match, but from the limited # of cards I did cross check between your prices and others, yours were definitely higher. For example, I picked up a few ranger of eos for $3.1, you had them listed at $3.75 at the time. That's a 17% difference...I didn't check all that many because I am not going to waste tons of time going through a list when I see a pattern developing. And you were out of stock on a bunch of cards too.

And about your comment regarding restocking from a bot if it were 10-15% cheaper that your prices, why would we ever, ever tell you about it? So you can buy all their stock and then resell it to us at higher prices? That really makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Ok, so I figured out how to connect to the bots, but is there a way to reduce the cards they want in a trade? For example, I only $16 worth of cards but they want to take $50+ and give me the rest in credit. I don't want to do that.

...well, you might at least suggest some bots that don't gouge your eyes out.

    For example???

    its pretty straight forward

*First make sure your ticketrs are made tradeable

*Invite the bot to a trade, and assuming its isnt busy it will auto accept

*Then, [if buying] cards, select the card you want it will quote you a price you can either return the card or accept (usually by typying "done" or the like, but the bot will tell you) and voila... new cards for you

*[If selling] select one of their tickets and they will start scanning your collection for things they want and quoting you prices... then you either accept and take the appropriate number of tickets, or refused by telling them to put them back (again a little different from bot to bot, but usually it shows you a list of the cards it wants and then you press "1" if you dont want to sell the first card on the list)

Inviting the bot to trade is the part I can't figure out. I'm still not 100% with the mtgo software, maybe it's something obvious but I can't figure it out and when I search on google all I get is stuff about how to set up your own bot etc...

So I am new to MTGO and can't for the life of me find any sort of "idiots guide for trading with bots" anywhere online. I've found the names of many of them but have no idea how to connect and execute trades etc.. Can someone help me out, maybe point me to a comprehensive guide on how to trade with bots?

    Thanks in advance!

What about Nimbus wings? canopy cover will give your other creatures the same ability as your wolf and sort of gives flying.

It's marked by default, so you can just start typing. It will automatically replace whatever was inside. Even works with copy and paste.

That's not how it works for me. If I do a search, and then start typing as you said, the text just continues on at the end of the original search text.

I can get you some screen shots if you like. I am using Firefox 3.6 if that makes a difference.

Something I thought was really smart with the old version, and now that it's not there I find really annoying:

The query field doesn't clear itself after you search. In the old version you would do a search and then it would be empty with the cursor waiting for you to paste something in. Now you have to delete the previous search terms before you can enter a new one. Really, really annoying...

It is 3 or more spells in a turn so you could still cast it for free later in a turn, it doesn't necessarily have to be a chain of 3 spells, although that would be the ideal situation.

No, no one will value it higher, no one will care.

Funny, I would say the same about crimped cards, but you obviously care about those.

Anyways, off to ebay it goes, if it fetches more than a normal one I'll report back.

I'll see about getting a photo. What's the easiest way to post photos on here?

It is factory sealed (little circle stickers at each end). I understand how one would be concerned about it being opened though.

The card is not a misprint or anything, the Jace is simply upside down. I don't know if it is just the Jace or the whole deck.

Just figured since some people make a big deal about crimped cards (a packaging error) another type of packaging error might also be desirable to certain collectors.

I picked it up at a local sports card store with 2 others for $20 each, sold the other 2 on ebay for $40 each and this one will probably go the same route.

I have a factory sealed Jace vs Chandra Duel Deck and Jace is upside down. Does this increase the value or anything like that?
