Aug 20, 2013Chromaticus posted a message on Multiplayer Cube Primer Part 2: Getting StartedMy friend described my Cube as the greatest thing that ever happened to magic for our playgroup. Not that my list was radical or anything, just that we were all broke High Schoolers and the cube leveled the playing field.Posted in: Cz Blog
Even though we mostly played big multiplayer games, it never occurred to me to build for multiplayer. Thus, red was always unpopular, and the blue decks, while they looked great on paper, always fell short.
Anyway, I am throwing a birthday party in about a month. Friends I haven't seen in three years coming together to cube draft again, and I'm looking to modify my cube for multiplayer (easy enough since it has always been proxies)
If I put together a preliminary list, can you give me some pointers? -
Apr 5, 2013Chromaticus posted a message on Multiplayer Spotlight: Angel of Glory's RiseWell Cz! You've done it again.Posted in: Cz Blog
My wife fielded her Angel of Glory's Rise deck for the first time today. She told me "This is the best deck you've ever built."
It was a really fun game, just a duel, mind you, but she was really worried when she saw my turn one stromkirk noble. It kept growing larger and larger, and even though she was gaining life and drawing cards via well of lost dreams it looked like I had finally sealed it away with a 4 point ashling the pilgrim. After all, stromkirk noble was at 6 power and growing. It was at that point that I asked her what she was sandbagging (she doesn't get some of the cards at first) She told me that it was the useless.... SCROLL RACK
Well, about this time, her seventh plains had hit the board, and she could return a ranger of eos to the battlefield. The two durdles she fetched, combined with a draw for the turn, and a scroll rack activation yielded the mighty angel of glory's rise.
Sitting at a precarious 2 life, she then gained a buttload off of the 5 soul sisters she returned, and plopped three (now 6/6) serra's ascendant into play.
She won the next turn. -
Mar 29, 2013Chromaticus posted a message on Multiplayer Spotlight: Angel of Glory's RiseThank you so much for doing this! I was the one who requested you talk some more about Angel of Glory's Rise, and you OVER Delivered! How generous of you!Posted in: Cz Blog
I think I'm going to go with either the Soul Sister/ Extort Shell, or maybe the Knight Shell. I think my wife would like the idea of the knights all being revived again by their glorious angel lady!
Very nice blog post, and I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw the lengths you went to. Thank you again. -
Mar 25, 2013Chromaticus posted a message on Fairness in MultiplayerWould you mind talking about your human deck a little bit more? I'm in process of building decks that my wife and I can play, and the Angel and Human deck sounds right up her alley!Posted in: Cz Blog
I have the soul sisters in there currently, mentor of the meek, and the rest of the core you were talking about. Currently she only has one deck that she enjoys playing, and it's rather lackluster. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
I'm also thinking I want to avoid Havengul Lich, since I've done that before. Games and decklists seemed to focus in a bit too much on that aspect. Instead, I want to try The Scarab God, which seems like a great follow-up to Heartless Summoning, in its place. Those are really the only slots I care about.
Here's a rough starting point!
1 Treasure Cruise
4 Heartless Summoning
4 Dark Ritual
4 Phyrexian Arena
3 Mulldrifter
2 Gonti, Lord of Luxury
4 Hostage Taker
3 The Scarab God
2 Gray Merchant of Asphodel
2 Sire of Stagnation
4 Watery Grave
4 Polluted Delta
5 Island
6 Swamp
Right now, I've got a nonbo in the deck with the Baleful Strix and Heartless Summoning - my thought is that I want a relevant play on 2, and if I've got Heartless Summoning, I'm probably doing okay. I'm definitely open to replacements though.
Thanks for the play by play - so turn 4 is more of the payoff vs turn 3. I was wondering about getting my serpents / revelers down.
P.S. Flipped Humonculous into Insult / Injury is absolutely beautiful.
I have seen articles raving about the card, and was curious if anyone had given them a shot.
The Crash Through seem silly to me having not played the deck. What do turns one and two look like for us - cycle, double cycle / answer?
Your deck is the one I'm basing mine off of - looks really sweet! I was wondering what your thoughts are on Abrade and whether that changes anything in the board?
Cheers!
4 Cryptic Serpent
3 Curious Homunculus
2 Bedlam Reveler
3 Negate
3 Hieroglyphic Illumination
2 Cathartic Reunion
3 Magma Spray
3 Abrade
3 Shock
3 Sweltering Suns
1 Insult
The sideboard is directly from one of you guys - this will be my first for at into standard, so I have no idea what to expect in my meta.
Thanks to everyone, and any suggestions on numbers / card choices would be much appreciated.
This deck seems like it might be a good fit, thanks to the Contagion Clasp. Is the card a trap?
4 Everflowing Chalice
3 Contagion Clasp
3 Ion Storm
1 Helm of Possession
2 War Elemental
4 Taurean Mauler
3 Hound of Griselbrand
2 Neheb the Eternal
4 Flayer of the Hatebound
1 Homura, Human Ascendant
3 Greater Gargadon
19 Mountain
4 Mirrodin's Core
Notable removal of Sun Droplet, which was mostly just a counter whore. With War Elemental I get access to infinite use of my Ion Storm and the Shrine of Burning Rage ticks up in a pleasing fashion as I play out my spells and durdle with storm.
I also got in there with Humble Defector who I can hopefully ping away / trade value with a temporary alliance.
@Thijs:
The red siege card? Or more looty stuff?
Hmmm, just realized that the new Neheb, the Eternal kind of combos with Ion Storm, so long as I have a plentiful supply of counters.
Holy moly did Coalition Relic shoot up in price.
Price check here for:
Walking Ballista
Hangarback Walker
Scab-Clan Berserker
Hound of Griselbrand
Contagion Engine
Contagion Clasp
Braid of Fire
Stormbreath Dragon
Edit:
Some of these cards are surprisingly high! Only clasp, Berserker, and hound are the kind of price where I wouldn't mind getting multiples.
I am now thinking more creature heavy with this deck -
3 Scab-Clan Berserker
3 Hound of Griselbrand
2 Neheb the Eternal
4 Flayer of the Hatebound
1 Homura, Human Ascendant
3 Greater Gargadon
4 Sun Droplet
3 Ion Storm
3 Contagion Clasp
1 Helm of Possession
1 Sol Ring
20 Mountain
Then you can play the monsters you've only dreamed of playing
Here's where I ended up last time:
3 Pyreheart Wolf
4 Taurean Mauler
4 Murderous Redcap
4 Flayer of the Hatebound
4 Greater Gargadon
1 Sol Ring
4 Power Conduit
4 Sun Droplet
4 Ion Storm
18 Mountain
As you can see, the deck can appear to be doing well, while not actually doing anything. I would like to fix that, preferably with about a $20-30 budget.
I think you're right on the money with this one.
I'm thinking a generic shell for these G/x decks would look something like...
8 Forest
0-4 Temple of the False God
4 Tech Lands
1-4 Coalition Relic
1-4 Nature's Lore
4 Hour of Promise
4 Over-the-top Finishers
10 Mid-range dudes / spells
So, for example:
1 Forest
4 G/W Cycle Land
4 Cloudpost
2 Emeria, the Sky Ruin
2 Myriad Landscape
4 Hour of Promise
4 Sun Titan
2 Emeria Shepherd
1 Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite
1 Avacyn, Angel of Hope
2 New Kozilek
3 Eldrazi Displacer
1 Pilgrim's Eye
2 Lone Missionary
3 Satyr Wayfimder
4 Wrath of God
3 Hour of Revelation
So something like that, or would you play even greedier?
Do you have an updated list Khaos?
